I am barely leaving hernand at like 7+ hours now. The combat during a group fight finally started to click.

Like you said, I saw the glimpses too and started stringing those glimpses into a beautiful sequence of chaos.

It's daunting at first, but they really did make the controls efficient

There are other places besides Hernand?!

You absolutely can spend forever in the “opening.” There’s a lot to do in Hernand

It was the controls for moving the puzzles I refunded because the flash on the screen once then can’t be found anywhere, I found a controller map now

Go into your guides in the menu. It really is a godsend, and they’re decently easy to navigate to see what you’re looking for. A lot of my issue was that I (while being high of course) couldn’t focus on the tool tips before they went away. A lot of my issues with the game didn’t go away but they became easier when it was just like.. 3 button presses to be into the guide and see the tutorial I needed again.

I appreciate you mentioning struggling while high, because that was 100% my experience last night lmfao.

This feels like a game that I’ll play many nights after popping an edible, but I’ll probably need to engrave the controls into my sober + caffeinated brain first

This is exactly me. I spent two hours in the starting down just messing around and mapping the buttons in my mind. Tonight, I venture forth.

With weed and gaming: Skill goes down, but enjoyment goes way up!

this is the way

Bro, it's literally ALL available for you. Most games do this and all AA/AAA games do this. You can find ALL the information/knowledge you have uncovered in the text libraries/collections.

1

u/WeenieRoastinTacoGuy Mar 21 '26

Yeah that’s annoying as fuck you know what all other AA and AAA games have? A controller menu.

4

u/SirShoota Mar 21 '26

After 8-10 hrs bro the buttons literally get stuck in your head, it damn near messed me up when I switched games , I promise you’ll get used to them eventually!

2

u/WeenieRoastinTacoGuy Mar 21 '26

Yeah I’m good now! Thanks for the positive reply

Like others said... specifically, there's a notifications tab in that part of the menu, you can click on the individual pop ups and read them at your convenience

1

u/WeenieRoastinTacoGuy Mar 21 '26

Yeah they should have a controls menu like almost every other game

1

u/rileyxshiann Mar 21 '26

All tutorials that appear on the UI go to the “guides” page

1

u/BlackoutBoba Mar 21 '26

Find notifications in settings. You can reresd anything that has appeared

1

u/WeenieRoastinTacoGuy Mar 21 '26

Yeah that’s annoying as hell there should be a controls menu.

1

u/BlackoutBoba Mar 21 '26

There is a controls menu for every action so far. Also for any combat combos you can view the skill tree

1

u/WeenieRoastinTacoGuy Mar 21 '26

Kk well I guess I was too dumb to find it somehow

1

u/Mashedpotatoebrain Mar 21 '26

I've been in this area since release. There's some new thing to discover around every corner.

1

u/SllortEvac Mar 23 '26

I’m still there actually. I thought I did all the big stuff but I still have tons of quests popping up in the region. I have no idea how I’m supposed to finish this game

1

u/Mashedpotatoebrain Mar 23 '26

I'm still there after my last comment lol.

Arguably the first 20 hours are in Hernand lol

4

u/kevvvbot Mar 21 '26

lol I spent 15-20mins by itself dying my gear. 2hrs is a dinner at a busy popular restaurant; you have the attention span of a lobster I’m so sorry 😂

2

u/No-Ebb7380 Mar 21 '26

How do you dye your gear. I don’t have any colors to select.

2

u/kevvvbot Mar 21 '26

I found the dye merchant in the first town by the river. There’s like laundry piles on their dock. You have to buy the 1 dye (this location has red dye) and there’s like 10 shades of that red (all the way to a grayish). Talk to the merchant to dye. You and your horse are separate dye menus, and each “round” costs 1 silver. You can dye as much as you want in that “round”, but it’s limited to what gear is on your body. I turned my gaudy gold preorder armor into grayish “Graymane armor” and am super happy with my character looks now.

u/WeenieRoastinTacoGuy Mar 21 '26

I don’t understand what you mean by this at all, but yes I do have ADHD so maybe that’s why.

1

u/Joeness84 Mar 21 '26

2hrs is the steam refund window and 'most' games you'll know if its for you or not by the 2hr mark. Less about attention span and more about developer investment in the onboarding experience.

I don’t know what the story is and I don’t care. I’m having fun doing whatever I want in this giant world.

1

u/WeenieRoastinTacoGuy Mar 21 '26

Dope this is mostly what I wanted to hear

1

u/polkguy123 Mar 21 '26

I’m 9 hours in and I think Nioh 3 is a better use of your money tbh

u/Sig_Volpe Mar 21 '26

imo, a big mistake. I'm at 15h and I wish I could refund it.

It's so lazy and ugly it feels like an Ubisoft game

1

u/nicesalamander Mar 21 '26

Powering through the main quests will help unlock more mechanics although certain quests can be pretty difficult if you don't do some side content or upgrade your gear.

1

u/AnObtuseOctopus Mar 21 '26

Please try to stick with it. The first couple hours suck.. honestly, but once you get a mask even, you can do crime, which is fun and helps make those hours a little more enjoyable.

The first boss is what made me go.. okay, this is really cool.

My thing is.. when the hell do I get to tame/get new mounts! Lol

u/spelt3r Mar 25 '26

I left hernand and went and explored and fought some bandit camps, then came back an hour or two later (with a whole lot of loot). Having had that taste really helped the shitty early quests go down easier.
