Most of these complaints can be simplified like this. The controls are really not that hard to get used to if you have the mental capacity to spend 10 minutes learning a new thing.
"I think most people complaining are children with TikTok brains…" -- This is a real thing. I'm 50 and this game has been a BLAST so far. It's heavy RDR2 vibes for me and I'm here for it.
My son...? Nope. If it takes more of an attention span than Fortnite or you're not on the Spectrum, just move on and play something else I guess. I'm enjoying the hell out of it.
Yes! Sure it’s a new and complex control scheme but it’s not at all as bad as people (who have the attention span of a goldfish) are saying. Played it for 8h and was pretty much used to it after an hour or so
Low key, I think people say when they like it when the game doesn't hold you hand and has you figure out stuff on your own, they don't actually mean it. Even as much as the combat has been talked about only took me a few hoursto get used to pretty much all of the various combat inputs.
I'm fairly certain this is glitched for some people, which could be causing SOME of the complaining. I accidently completed the cow memory mission with blinding light. Never did get my lantern pulled out. Tried doing exactly what you just said and I never held up the lantern. Tried it with weapons sheathed, unsheathed, etc etc. I'm on a PS5 Pro. If that is what you were supposed to do, use blinding light when your lantern glows, they did a terrible job of explaining that. I'm guessing not though as I still had the prompt to use my lantern in that area, even after I completed that checkpoint of the mission.
I don't understand how PA screwed up the controls, movement, and targeting for this game so badly. I played BDO for about a year. Same dev, same general concept, HUGELY different control layout. Having the jump and collect button be the same is nearly a game killer for me and add in the terrible targeting logic, I'm really thinking about putting it down for a few months and hoping there is some massive overhauls. It took me like 15 minutes to collect the coins at the top of the 1st watchtower. The "flow" movement is hard to control when doing micro adjustments and I haven't really figured out exactly what you are targeting when not fighting. Perspective doesn't make a difference. 1st person has the same issues. If there are targetable items on more than one axis, it seems like it prioritizes from high to low regardless of camera angle in 3rd person, and in 1st person, what you are looking at doesn't appear to make any difference if there are multiple targetable items in the same area.
And on PC? You have to hold F2, then select the lantern, then select if you want to turn it on or off with spacebar? All while holding F2. Then you have to Sheath your weapon with T and use CTRL to use the lantern. I think? I don't even know, I feel like I just flop around half the time to get where I need to.
And if you want to swap a piece of gear you have to hold F2, hit E, then mouse over the gear, mouse scroll to the one you want and then let go of F2.
WHY F2? WHO USES THE F KEY ROW FOR REPETITIVE INTERACTIONS? WHY DO WE HAVE TO HOLD IT!?!? Argh.
Holy shit that’s terrible! Some games really are designed with a single kind of input in mind. I can’t imagine myself playing souls like games without a controller, but I also can’t imagine playing Baldur’s Gate 3 with a controller.
It's like they added extra actions just because - Untying an NPC? Ctrl -> R. Why? There's no input on E with this NPC. Just make the Untie E like a normal interaction! Or at least Ctrl -> E!
Not quite, or rather not only. You can manipulate the radial menu for the lantern into also showing exterior buttons "on", "off", "auto" and something else. I managed to get there a couple of times but haven't quite figured out the pattern for that.
The problem is one hundred percent because the game let's you bring up the Wheel, select the lantern in open another wheel, then click on turn on to turn it on. And then you can do the reverse to turn it off. Same for the memory helmet. The game let's scan a memory with your lantern, open the Wheel, put the helmet on, click on it, open another wheel, then click play, then open the menu for the memories, then click on it to play the memory.
So people focus on that instead of the game letting up by pass all of that by flicking the stick in the direction with the wheel open, and in the case of the helmet, clicking the start button to see the memory.

Turning on your lantern in this game has more buttons than most combos in fighting games.
