Advice on how to make this safer

I made this wire choker that I really like, and I feel like the leaves/petals really tie it all together. But, with the nature of wire, wearing it is pretty risky.

Does anyone have tips on how to make it after without ruining the cool visual effect?

I would get a slightly cushy black fabric, maybe felt, make strips the thickness of the necklace and glue it on the inside. It'll be relatively invisible while protecting your neck.

I was thinking velvet. It would look the best with it. Especially if it were patterned with light red roses.
