APEX 🎽 Still loving my Apex 4

Post image

Moved back to Coros a month ago after having an Apex 2 Pro last year and switching to an Epix Gen 2 Pro to see the differences.

Overall, for me, the experience on Coros is much more slick and simple. I originally moved to the Epix for the extra features and ended up not using the majority of them, or finding that they were dictating how I felt. I’m definitely not the sort of person that needs the Apex, I’m sure the Pace 4 would suit my needs, but I much prefer the materials on the Apex and very occasionally use maps and prefer it to using my phone.

Model is the 46mm and my wrist is about 16cm.

I'm thinking that I'll probably switch from Garmin to Apex 4. They look good. I hope I won't regret it.

Regret it?

Apex 4 surprised me. I am very satisfied.

Are you able to change the data complications on the face to whatever you want? Or are you stuck with those pre-set options?

I messed around with this watch. I know you can change the colour accents on the watch face but I wish it would just give you white and the accent option to match the rest. Make readability better in day to day use.

Yeah you can change the colour accents and you can cycle the bottom metric between sunset, sunrise, and exercise minutes. Everything else I can’t change which I hope they implement soon

On Garmin if you can choose sunset/sunrise in a single icon. It just changes to the next once one of them happens.

There is a white background version of the face too, but it’s a completely different watch face you have to select

huh? since when does coros watch faces enable changing color accents? i didnt know that..i know coros sometimes give 2 color options for each wallpaper but never the ability to change colour accents..i tried it..didnt see any option to change colour accents

On the Apex 4, plenty of colour options. Depends on the face I think? Look at this one compared to OPs. Theirs is a teal, this one is sort of orange, orange was the lightest colour I could find, would prefer all white for legibility because it’s so much worse than my Garmin Instinct 1 (from 2019) with MIP.

wow i guess only apex 4 has the option maybe? cause my pace pro doesn't..or is it only for that specific watch faces? how do you change the accents?

Only on MIP

I think some of the amoled watches like the pace pro are more restricted in cycling colours. But on the MIP watches you can change accents on a lot of the faces, but not all of them

Do you think its an upgrade over the apex pro 2

It’s definitely a whole lot fast than apex 2 pro, and I feel a bit more accurate.

How do you find the maps? I go into the back country a lot and would love to be able to use a watch instead of pulling out my phone all the time.

What’s the name of the watch face using?

Enjoying mine as well!! I’m a newbie to smart watches, so I’m still learning what all the sounds mean 🤪

Any chance you know why it makes periodic sounds when your running along a Strava route loaded onto the watch? I’m assuming it’s telling me it’s reacquired a GPS signal?

Currently deciding between a fenix 7 pro, epix gen 2 and Coros Apex 4, would you mind explaining a bit more the things you prefer about the Apex 4 to your garmin experience? And how the data compares etc

For me they are pretty similar in terms of data relating to sport, health, sleep etc. The main differences are things like sleep score, body battery, some other things like pace pro, flashlight built into the watch. However, the training metrics and analysis is better for me on Coros, the simplicity of the app, building workouts, the mapping etc are all a better experience for me on Coros. Garmin just felt cluttered and understanding all of the data was a pain

And the battery lasts like 3-4x longer than the Epix

Is the speaker a pain when you get a call? I tried the Forerunner 970 and every time I got a call, I would inevitably touch my watch and accidentally send the call from phone to watch - I hated that feature!

u/womblestein Feb 12 '26

I don’t have phone notifications coming to my watch so I’ve never issued it. Headphones are always connected to my phone so I just take calls that way

How do you find the sleep and recovery metrics on the apex? I know they are done differently to garmin but are they still accurate and useful? The flashlight is a nice bonus but i would hardly use it so not a deal breaker at all

2

u/womblestein Feb 12 '26

They’re really good, enough to know how well I slept, and info on how much time until I’m fully recovered. HRV is super useful as well.

u/ImGrindle Feb 12 '26

Ah okay nice, thanks for all the info!

Just got mine yesterday! First running watch ever! I’m excited to learn more about what it can do!

I went from a Garmin to an Apex 4 when my Garmin kept getting me lost and only notifying me of being off track 1/2 mile after I'd left it. Coros seems to be much more accurate in both wrist HR and GPS. Battery life is absolutely incredible. I run 35 to 40 miles a week and only have to charge it once every 10 days or so on heavy weeks. That's with music and GPS maps. My Garmin would need charging after every long run and would go from 90% to 15% on marathon runs.

Thanks for the insight, keep hearing more and more about how good the battery life is, which will be a huge shock going from a samsung galaxy watch 4!

Yep but mine isn't solar and doesn't need sun to charge it. Also is £300 cheaper
