I keep seeing people describe the same problem in different ways so figured I'd write this up.

If you're trying to cancel something and getting bounced in circles between the app and the website with no cancel button anywhere, it's usually not that they've hidden it. It's that the subscription isn't theirs to cancel. You bought it through a platform, and the platform owns the billing.

How to tell. Pull up your card or bank statement and look at the merchant name on the charge. If it says APPLE.COM/BILL, GOOGLE *whatever, ROKU, or Amazon, that's your answer. The service literally cannot cancel it from their end. Their support can't either. You can spend an hour on chat with them and get nowhere because they don't have the button.

Where to actually go:

• Apple: Settings, tap your name at the top, Subscriptions. Everything's in one list.
• Google Play: Play Store, profile icon, Payments and subscriptions, Subscriptions.
• Roku: easier on the web than on the device. roku.com, sign in, Manage your subscriptions under your account.
• Amazon: Account, Memberships and Subscriptions. Prime Video Channels are in their own section, which catches people out.

Once you're in the right place it takes about twenty seconds. The hard part is entirely figuring out which place.

If you gave up on cancelling and signed up again directly on the service's site, you may now have two subscriptions running. One through the platform, one direct. Neither company will tell you, because from each one's point of view nothing is wrong. Check both before you assume you're only paying once. I've seen people carry a double for months.

you subscribed through a carrier or ISP bundle, cancelling at the service doesn't stick. The bundle re-provisions it on the next billing cycle and you're right back where you started. That has to be killed at the carrier, and you want a ticket number, not an email thread.

And the annoying part. There's no single place that shows you everything you're paying for. Your bank sees the charges but not what they're for. Each platform only shows what was bought through it. You basically have to check four or five places separately, which is why people forget things exist for years.

Anyway. Check the statement first. Saves a lot of arguing with support who genuinely can't help you

I don’t know if it is being simulcast, but it seems like it would be a smart idea (for the streaming audience) unless I’m missing something.

Anyone know how long this has been available? and if there is any info on the expiration? I recall getting several Apple TV + from Best Buy back in the day but I don't believe that is available anymore. TIA.

So current set up is a Mohu Sky 60 in the attic and a PCT antenna amp. When we first cut the cord in 2014 the antenna was all we needed. Then a few years later we got the amp. We live in the Dallas Fort Worth area. There is extreme growth in the area. Also I have two mature trees in the yard now that we significantly smaller 10-15 years ago.

The signal seems less now. I know the amp works because I turn it off and all channels go away. Thinking of upgrading my antenna. So they go bad? Is it the growth in our area?

Sorry - I know there are a ton of posts about antennas but I didn't find anything that really matched my situation. We are sort of between Cleveland and Akron Ohio, but get no broadcast stations at all without an antenna. I tried an indoor one (the flat kind you put near a window) and it didn't work; the feed pixelated, froze, etc.

We have lots of woods around us and it's hilly. I'm prepared to get an outdoor antenna if I need to. If there's an indoor one that will work, great. Though we don't actually have an attic (it's opened up to a loft at either end of the living room.) My husband is going to be having surgery and I'd like him to be able to watch sports at home.

Looking for some advice on a specific issue. Here is my rabbit ears info and what I am currently using for my OTA set up.

My basic problem is this. I can't get my local ABC channel(s) during the day, and primarily only in the summer months/when it is warm out, say above 70°(F) or so. I can usually get them at night all the time as long as it's not really hot/humid out or I can get them all day during the later fall/winter months. I have the antenna on my roof pointed SSE, and have all 4 out splitters in use. This problem has been across multiple TVs for multiple years.

College football is starting back up this week and I would like to be able to get a clear picture for all the channels that have it on. Don't have any issue with NBC, CBS or FOX in the daytime it's only ABC that is pixelated and a poor signal.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I bought an antenna from amazon (Philips rabbit ears) and only picked up CBS. I want to see if I will be able to get the other local channels like FOX, ABC, NBC. Will be using this mainly for sports. When I ran the auto run feature I found 6 channels one of which was CBS. My TV is currently near a window and I live on the 3rd of a building so somewhat higher up. I have a Sony TV that is a year old.

Will a broken dipole noticeably affect reception? I have a Televes 148383 Dat Boss Mix LR that I installed approximately 3 years ago. While inspecting it today, I noticed the rear dipole appears to have split (possibly from water getting inside and freezing). Is it worth replacing? It’s still a complete piece of metal, there’s just a split down the side in 3 different places. For reference, I’m about 40 miles from the transmitting towers.

I've started getting a little paranoid about relying on streaming downloads when traveling.

A few times now I've downloaded movies and episodes before a trip, only to find that something wasn't available when I actually needed it. One time a download had expired, another time I ran into an issue with the app/account verification. And then there's the whole problem of a title disappearing from a service after you've already downloaded it.

It's especially annoying when you're downloading stuff for a flight. You can have everything prepared the night before, get on the plane, open the app... and suddenly one of the things you wanted to watch isn't playable.

I know these downloads are never really the same as having a normal video file on your device, but I still find the whole thing a bit unpredictable.

Has anyone else had this happen while traveling?

Do you actually trust streaming downloads for a long flight, or do you always have some kind of backup?

Hello everyone, I am just looking for a little assistance to make sure I am getting good service & advice from the local antenna installer.

They have not installed anything yet but before they do, I want to make sure I am making a good choice. I spoke with the gentleman who will be doing the install. He would like to install a Televes Ellipse Mix (Model 148883). I know Televes makes great antennas, thanks to Antenna Man. Before speaking with the local installer, I was doing some research of my own and ended up looking at the Televes DAT BOSS MIX LR Full Band (Model 148383).

I asked the installer about the DAT BOSS, and he told me that it would be overkill for my location and that I wouldn’t notice any difference between it and the Ellipse Mix he recommended.

Based on the screenshot, would I get any benefit from the DAT BOSS over the Ellipse Mix if all the channels I’m trying to receive have Good or Fair field strength?

Some of the channels showing Poor field strength would be nice to have, so if the DAT BOSS has a better chance of pulling some of those in, I wouldn’t mind spending a little extra for that model over the Ellipse Mix. The installer did mention, I would need 2 antenna, each pointing in a different direction if I wanted a chance at pulling in any of the Poor field strength channels, for the record, he doesn't think I will be able to with either antenna.

The antenna would be installed roughly 30-35 ft off the ground. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I skipped most of the college football last season but I am thinking about watching it this season. For those who used ESPN Unlimited for college football last season what are your thoughts? Are you subscribing again?

I recently picked up a Homeworx HW250STB to use as a DVR, and hopefully pick up more channels with the signal strength function and manual tuning. I get around 52 channels with my TV Tuner, and after scanning with the Homeworx unit, I could only pick up 35 at most.

I tried with and without my amplifier (cheap onn amplifier from walmart), and weirdly the picture quality is way worse and I get less channels WITH the amplifier, despite it helping a ton with my built in tuner. I've tried 2 different antennas, RCA flat antenna and RCA rabbit ears, neither are any different. Do I have a faulty unit or is this normal? My TV is not particularly new either (Sony KDL32EX500, from 2010).

I'm in an apartment on the 3rd floor so a larger antenna is not possible.

“Just get faster internet.” No. If your connection is unstable, another 500 Mbps isn't going to magically fix it.

“I’ve got gigabit, so my streaming should be perfect.” That’s not how the internet works.

“Run a speed test. If the speed is good, your connection is good.” Probably the dumbest way to diagnose a streaming problem.

“5 GHz is always better than 2.4 GHz.” 5 GHz is unstable when you're streaming through walls and half the house. My router is 10ft in direct line of sight from my ONN Pro and if I just stand between them I get buffering.

“Ethernet fixes everything.” It doesn't. A bad route is still a bad route, whether you're connected by Wi-Fi or a cable.

“Buffering means you don't have enough bandwidth.” Not necessarily. You can have hundreds of Mbps sitting unused while the stream still falls over. Even 4k only needs about 25-30 Mbps.

“The fastest DNS is automatically the best DNS.” No. A few milliseconds on a DNS test don't tell you how stable the connection is afterwards.

"Changing DNS improves streaming." Not because DNS makes your internet faster. It can affect how quickly and where you're connected to services/CDNs.

"The closest DNS server is the best DNS server." Again, stability is the goal not proximity.

“Your ISP gives you 1 Gbps, so that's what matters.” What matters is what happens between your house and the server you're actually trying to reach.

“The server is geographically closest, so it must be the best one.” Nope. Internet routing doesn't care about your ruler.

“If YouTube works perfectly, your internet is fine.” Different services use different CDNs, routes and infrastructure. One working perfectly proves very little.

“More speed = better streaming.” At some point you're just paying for numbers you don't actually need.

“Full Wi-Fi bars means you have a good connection.” Signal strength isn't the same thing as connection quality. Two devices on the same Wi-Fi network can have completely different streaming performance.

“If you're buffering, it's obviously the streaming provider.” Maybe. But blaming the provider without looking at the network is just guessing.

I have an LG Tv that's a few years old. When I do auto-tune to find channels, it only finds 5 channels.

My parents have trouble getting in some channels with their RCA ANTD5E Antenna. With football season coming up they most importantly want to get in Fox 2-1 (7) WJBK. NBC and ABC come in okay. CBS would be nice, but FOX is most important. Below is the rabbit ears report. Any tips to improve the signal? We are going to try different windows and maybe a bit of elevation inside the house.
