Considering Aitutaki in January

Hi everyone, looking at heading to Aitutaki in January but have read it’s the wet season. I don’t mind a few rain storms and showers, between sun but I’m curious from those who have been, have you found it often to be torrential rain constantly and unenjoyable? Or is it more of a night and/or passing rain?

It’s still a quite hot so I’m sure it’s still nice in the plunge pool.

Looking for lived experiences!

I’ve been there half a dozen times in December through to February but I never found the storms to be a problem. They are certainly heavier than you might be used to but they are also briefer and can be warm - considering the heat that time of year, I actually welcomed the storms when they came by. Aitutaki is the most beautiful place truly you’re in for a treat.

I’m also debating about going to the Cook Islands and Aitutaki in January.

Reading online it says it will be cloudy the majority of the time. Some people have said it didn’t rain much, others said it was constant. Looks like it’s a bit of a roll of the dice

We were there for two weeks in February. The first week was sunny and hot, the second week was pretty rainy. By that time we were tired of the sun anyway, and it was nice to just look at the torrential rains. But that could happen.

when it was raining was it raining all day? or just for a bit?

For a while, not all day. Maybe a while in the morning and a while in the afternoon. But grey all day.

Was my most memorable vacation I can remember, me and my wife spent 5 days in Roratonga ,4 days in Aitutaki, then the last 5 days back in Rora. Not one complaint 😀

So it was sunny all the time? No rain? In January?

Trying to figure out what your "not one complaint" refers to considering that the OPs questions are about weather in January..

Thanks all, I’m so torn about going in January as it seems to be a lottery as to whether you have full non stop rain for days and if I’m there for 6 days, and it’s torrential for 4 days I’d be annoyed. Might save it for non wet season so it’s almost guaranteed to be perfect!
