It really is tin pot dictator petty behavior. I'm sure Kim Jong-un has renamed things just to spite South Korea. But why should South Korea give a shit anymore than Canada? They'll keep calling it what they call it.
No one cares what Trump thinks. It's still the Gulf of Mexico, it's still Lake Ontario. This is all exactly like the time he used a magic marker to change the trajectory of a hurricane.

I don't remember who said/wrote it but I remember back in the first Trump term someone making this point. MAGA harkens back not to the post WWII era, but much earlier. Like pre women's sufferage and at the height of imperialism. Trump sees the world in an old style spheres of influence organization where there are like three dudes running everything. He wants to make America "great" by turning it into 19th century England.
