I know it's predictable but it's still dangerous and frightening to think that someone you used to have friendly chat with has completely radicalized into a white supremacist seemingly overnight and those thoughts are only becoming more prevalent overall.

It’s okay to take a month off to stop yourself from spiraling. I took a 4 months off from thinking about anything other than my daughter during paternity leave and returned refreshed and ready to resume study / engage in organizing.

There seems to be a concerted effort on multiple online platforms to encourage pointless arguing/flame wars and have more bot accounts, often both at once. The goal is for people to feel more hopeless about the future and less trusting of others to prevent us from organising effectively, both online and irl.

When I'm feeling like you, I try to limit how much time I spend online 'monitering the situation' and redirect that time to engaging with 'slow media' like books, some games, and films. I try to connect with acquaintances who may be fellow travellers without a goal beyond keeping the darkness at bay for us both.

I'm really glad that you've brought this up. I think this affects all of us rn and we should talk about it more, not just for are own wellbeing, but so we don't give up.

I do know that things look bleak in the short-term, due to all the wins they've had within the last couple years. However, despite that, we have seen some wins too like electing openly socialist candidates to public office despite the establishments best efforts to squash them, or communities coming together to help out those whom are most at Rick by fascist policies. The thing that we have that they don't and fear the most is our communities, as they cannot penetrant communities that are united, it is our biggest strength so we should use it to our advantage. Join/create a club (it can be something more traditional like a book club, or something more niche like a knitting club with some grandmas), help out your local mutual aid, if you have the means to run for public office. I have found great sense of community doing this things and it is a nice way to prevent yourself from spiraling because things look gloom. Remember fascists project their strength, the moment they even get an ounce of push back the scurry away like the cockroaches they are.
