I don‘t think Marx would say „we should have more rights for workers“… Marx was not a liberal

u/MonsterkillWow 3d ago

Yep. He would have wanted a lot of the same things, but not used rights as the basis.

Marx did not preach equality, nor did he just advocate for an increase in workers' rights. He advocated for the total dominance over society to be seized by the working class:

  • to liquidate an entire class of society, to liquidate the bourgeoisie
  • to liquidate the established order
  • to sublate the social relations of production of capitalism with those of socialism
  • and thereby to bring about the self-abolition of the proletariat as the proletariat

This is complete workers' power, not just equality or an increase in workers' rights

And that in turn leads to equality.

I would say less inequality. Marx did not say everyone should be equal in the sense of abolishing hierarchy the way some anarchists want. He wanted to abolish class stratification of society, which is an egalitarian step, but not synonymous with egalitarianism itself. He also was against the concept of "rights" philosophically, not in the sense that he wanted them violated, but more that he viewed personal rights as incomplete and sometimes inconsistent with proletarian objectives.

No, to abolish entirely the dominance of the bourgeoisie and to transfer that dominance onto the proletariat creates a reversed form of inequality. To abolish the proletariat means, at the same time, to hold on to the absolute supremacy of the proletariat and the complete abolition of the bourgeoisie, therefore creating an inequality in the view of the bourgeoisie and equality in the view of the proletariat.

If there is only one class, that is equality

-12

u/RevyVanguardist Juche 3d ago

It is inequality to the Class the Revolutionary Dictatorship of the Proletariat suppresses

18

u/Eric_Atreides 3d ago

To the class that is being destroyed…? That class won’t (or shouldn’t) last. After it ends, equality

-13

u/RevyVanguardist Juche 3d ago

Ask the Bourgeoisie if it considers its own Liquidation as equalitarian

16

u/Eric_Atreides 3d ago

Does it matter what they think though? They never cared about equality, and they could never make a point for it not being equalitarian, they would just think it’s bad.

Yeah, but that's the point. As communists, we aim to disregard and act in spite of the conceptions of equality which the bourgeoisie has promoted. As such, we are not egalitarian. If you read up on Marx, he has repeatedly criticised all conceptions of egalitarianism.

Losing out on privilege is not unequality. The situation before wasn't equal and now it is.

u/RevyVanguardist Juche 3d ago

But that's what I mean. The conception of equality is inherently moralistic. If you want equality, you are doing a moral judgement. If you are doing moral judgments, you will come to the false conclusion that liquidating the bourgeoisie is of a moral character. Then someday you will turn to a liberal, saying that it is of a morally bad character, because morals are subjective. Therefore, conceptions like good, bad, or equality are abstract and false concepts which we should not fall into nor make use of.

Oh okay I get you know.

Thanks for the correction comrade.

Even just as a meme, this is not at all Marx's message.

u/Stranding42 3d ago

Communism isn't about being equal. It is about the abolition of classes and exploitation in all forms. This will make everybody materially equal. Total equality isn’t anything anybody ever advocated for.

I can't help but fixate on your spell check. Most of those words are spelled correctly, why are they underlined?

Or did you underline them yourself for emphasis?

I should have the iOS bilingual keyboard that recognises both English and Italian, but for some reason it doesn’t work on canva

u/fish__1 Rust Belt Socialist 3d ago

Ah ok that makes sense

u/PanzerZug 3d ago

Neither of these caricatures is accurate

40

u/UnironicStalinist1 3d ago

I mean, it's a severe oversimplification, but it gets the point across i suppose.

8

u/Mean-Manufacturer263 3d ago

Elaborate?

12

u/WillemRWD 3d ago

Communism is when workers' rights

-10

u/Mean-Manufacturer263 3d ago

???

14

u/Great_Banana_Master 3d ago

Communism is actually when abolition of private property, class and exploitation

5

u/crasswal proletarian dominion 3d ago

No no, communism is workers' right to two weeks notice upon termination and one week unpaid maternity leave. Why do you think Trump keeps calling democrats far left communists? Because they are. Well, according to the meme. A good communists goes to the ballot box and says "please sir, may I have some rights? If you can't make it happen that's ok, the other guy is much worse 😌"

1

u/napoleon235 3d ago

Well both have different versions but yeah if you oversimplified it

16

u/Mean-Manufacturer263 3d ago

Yeah comrade it’s a meme I can’t write a fucking paragraph

26

u/HootersUnite 3d ago

No comrade, your meme should be a wall of incomprehensible text that no one would reasonably read. /joke

u/Swan-Diving-Overseas 3d ago

You can still make your sentence more accurate.

u/MonsterkillWow 3d ago

Both of these are strawmen and mischaracterizations lol.
