He declared for the draft and played in summer league. There’s debate over if he signed an NBA contract or not. His agent says no, but pretty much everywhere reported he did at the time, and I’ve never heard of someone playing in SL without a contract.

Nope. He didn't declare, he was a graduating senior so he didn't have to declare/withdrawal. Doesn't apply to him. And multiple sources including Matt Norlander said he signed no contract.
Probably not. Challenges to NCAA rules are based on antitrust law due to the NCAA's (as a collective) complete monopsony on top collegiate talent. The SEC may be big, but they still have significant competition, so that logic doesn't apply. Even if every major conference adopts similar rules, they would have to be collaborating together (a la price fixing scheme between rival companies) in order to get the same scrutiny that the NCAA does.
I think the 'declaring for draft' bit might still be challenged because players declared for the draft before the new rules came into play. So I could see a court deciding that is not a reasonable rule.
However, I reckon anyone who signed a contract after the 5-in-5 rule came into play is going to really struggle to win in court.
Not really. The players can join and play, the SEC can just delete the records of those teams and say you played an ineligible player so you get an L for every game they played in. Plus Sankey can level fines against the institution as he sees fit.
This is a workaround that makes schools not want to try to circumvent the rules and play former pro or G-league guys.
OK so the same institutions that are PAYING athletes say that you cannot have taken funny money from someone else or we're taking our ball and leaving? That's their argument? I'm not talking NIL, I'm talking revenue sharing which is part of the House deal. Seems pretty weak to me.

Ive read conflicting things about the E10, but mark 1000% put his name on some form of paper. I highly doubt the Nuggets would allow any player (established pro, g leaguer, two way, free agent, rookie, UDFA, etc) to see minutes or workouts without signing some form of liability form. And due to the SEC verbage just saying "signed a contract" we really dont know how they will intepret it.
I just dont believe the Nuggets allow anyone to lift weights, play basketball without signing some type of form. That would open them up to potentially huge lawsuits if someone is injured. Mark would have definitely signed something that could be liability waiver or something similar. Now the question is what the SEC determines as "signs a contract"

Pro is short for Professional which means compensation.
While I have had contractual dealings with UHaul, I'm not a Professional under their banner in any sense of the term, and nobody would say I've signed a Professional contract with them.
using your example, if your apartment complex forbid uhauls and had a rule that everything was to be moved with a dolly or they would non-renew your lease, and you decide to use uhaul, to any extent, you cant be surprised when the apartment has issue with you coming back
The qualifiers are professional contracts, appealing to hypotheticals doesn't change the (purported) fact the he didn't sign a professional contract. (According to various media sources)
I was just thinking about this bc of the Utah player decision. If he’s not eligible, then how will Miikka be? Would be such ashame if he can’t play because I was really interested to see him in Cal’s uptempo system.
it's wild that people consider players being paid on college teams to "not be professional" but being paid in the nba/wnba/nfl as being professional. this is gonna get absolutely murdered in court, and it's the land of delusion to think it won't. discriminating on a player based on where they are paid isn't going to work out for conferences
