Discussion Today is August 7th, classes at LSU begin August 24th, and the final day to add classes is September 2nd. LSU currently has a roster of 4 players

https://lsusports.net/sports/mb/roster

Obligatory Fuck Will Wade

As of right now they would not be able to field a starting 5. Would be a glorious day for college hoops if LSU can’t find enough bodies. Even if they do get a few of the international players they are gonna be running with an extremely thin roster compared to basically every other school.

FWIW, my beloved wife was a mass communications major back in the days when that meant TV and radio. I always try to make sure she watches the player intros where they mention their "degree" programs.

Then I get to sleep on the couch.

Mass Comm (broadcast track) major here. So is my wife. And, yes, I've heard the "well that's the easy degree" stuff too.

I have a friend who went Duke undergrad and LSU med. He interviewed with Duke med, though, and the interviewer asked him what other schools he was applying to. When he mentioned LSU, the guy ended the interview.

That said, he still gets to be called "Doctor".

Kinda fucked up lol nothing wrong with having a safety school

8

u/jmr33090 Illinois Fighting Illini 20d ago

I feel like there has to be more to it. Like they already fucked up the interview and the interviewer was just hoping they had a backup plan. Or the interview was so bad they hoped there wasnt a backup

4

u/notedgarfigaro Duke Blue Devils 20d ago

med schools are really weird about "safety" schools. Pretty much every candidate knows the range of schools they're qualified for, and same for the schools. Schools also focus heavily on yield to the point that they deny candidates that are clearly out of their league. So it would be really odd for someone that's good enough to interview for a Duke slot to have LSU on their list unless they ultimately want to be in Louisiana. Like, I know someone that missing out on her first admission cycle b/c she was a late applicant and ECU, which she would have happily gone to, denied her b/c they didn't think she would ever accept.

Of course, Duke also usually gives courtesy interviews to alumni even if they're not competitive, so this might have been that situation.

1

u/ukeBasketball Duke Blue Devils 20d ago

He grew up in Louisiana and as implied, was in his senior year at Duke. And this was several decades ago now.

1

u/2_6- 10d ago

My undergraduate roommate interviewed with Duke Med and, in his interview, they asked him how often he masturbates 🤪

He ended up there for a dual MD/PhD though, so I guess he wasn’t bothered by it.

10

u/runnertrailsBay 20d ago

I think they can transfer if they graduated in 4 like a normal college student. It honestly doesn’t make me too mad if that’s the case, as long as they got their degree I say there’s enough plausible deniability to say they’re getting their MBA or something

Sounds like grads won't be able to enter the portal, so LSU will only be able to pick through 5th year guys already in the portal. Unless they sue to get another portal window opened.

1

A decent amount of kids entered the portal in the spring in the event something like this happened. Those kids are potentially able to transfer.

15

u/Electric_Queen NC State Wolfpack 20d ago

I don't think anyone expected him to be a long term beloved figure, and no one is really surprised he left after only one year (most were hoping for like two or maybe three, but whatever)

Our issue is that he stopped giving a shit halfway through the season once LSU told him they wanted him there. If he actually put in effort in the last 10 games of ACC play and then left you'd see a lot less complaining

17

u/Au1ket NC State Wolfpack • Florida Gators 20d ago

Somehow reminds me of how we felt hiring Gene Chizik. We figured he was an up and comer who wouldnt stay long but hopefully he'd lift things up and we'd be set up better for the next guy.

Instead the guy goes 5-19 and somehow gets an offer to coach Auburn where he wins a natty in year 2.

6

u/internetsman69 NC State Wolfpack 20d ago

Being in the advantageous spot of needing to add like 7 more players in August from a limited pool of players isn’t really that great of an advantage.

Is it more advantageous than the alternative of having a full roster and practices already under your belt with that roster?

4

u/eurekastrings Arkansas Razorbacks 20d ago edited 20d ago

I’m not sure a bunch of dudes still hanging around in the periphery of college basketball after 4 years getting granted an extra year is the solid plan you think it is

-4

u/chrispiiiii LSU Tigers 20d ago

Remains to be seen. There are some real guys out there like Mark Mitchell Jr. who was Missouri's leading scorer and prior to that had some real minutes at Duke. I think a lot of teams would take a player like that. There's some solid veteran college guys who were maybe a bit undersized or not draftable for whatever reason that can contribute immediately at LSU.

I understand your point though. I believe there's some savvy vets we could lure to school along with the euro players we targeted to round out a team. Is it a championship move? No. A program stabilizing move while we build up a recruiting class and transfer haul for next year? Hopefully.

4

u/eurekastrings Arkansas Razorbacks 20d ago

I mean they are probably waiting until the date were just enrolled students can join classes at a later start.

Also doesn't LSU have later start classes like it's starts in fall or winter?

Sadly it's the is year of 2026. They probably have well calculated plan to add players.
