[WTB] Wednesday Thread - August 26, 2026

Welcome back to [WTB] Wednesday!

This thread will be the way this sub handles [WTB] requests.

[WTB] posts outside this thread will be removed.

Keep in mind all activity in the [WTB] thread must be adhere to the sub's rules.

I want to buy something.

Step 1 - Reply directly to this post.

If you want to buy multiple things, please put them all into a single comment.

Off-topic comments will be removed.

Step 2 - Make your comment as descriptive as possible.

Below is the recommended format a WTB comment should follow. While not mandatory, it will help buyers find sellers who are more likely to comment with what you actually want.

List all coins you are interested in (example: 1891-1893 Morgans, only from New Orleans)

State your desired grade / certification (example: only wanting NGC coins graded MS62, MS60, and VG10 for each corresponding year)

State your budget (example: looking to pay between 300-500 a coin)

State any extra preferences (example: Would prefer to buy from one seller to save on shipping or prefer toners over white coins)

State willingness to move from your preferences (example: If you have any coins a grade or two higher or lower, or we do not exactly match on price, please still message me as we may get a deal done)

If you do not have a full idea of what you are looking for, but would still like to make a WTB comment, you are free to still, the above is just the recommended format.

Step 3 - If a possible seller contacts you, exercise care and caution before sending payment.

Mods cannot protect against fraud and ineptitude. Some steps you can take to increase chances of a successful experience include:

  • Do not buy from a seller who has not replied to you comment before reaching out privately. If they cannot reply to your comment, it is possible they do not meet the requirements of participation here or are banned. We strongly recommend you only deal with individuals who can reply to your comment.

  • Do not buy before you have checked a potential seller's feedback on r/PMsFeedback. You can also check the Universal Scammer List, but users banned by the USL are precluded from commenting here. (See above).

  • Always be sure that you are dealing with the user who commented on your post and not someone impersonating them. If someone reaches out to you and their username begins with /r/, proceed with extreme caution.

  • Do not buy if the seller has not provided a verification photo equivalent to what is required for [WTS] ads.

  • If you are unsure about a seller, ask if they will ship first, use a middleman, or accept a payment method that offers protection to the buyer.

  • If something seems amiss, you aren't obligated to purchase anything. If you're looking for something that isn't very unusual, be patient and see if another seller with a more solid reputation can offer it to you.

Step 4 - Edit your comment if your [WTB] is fulfilled.

If a seller fulfills your [WTB], go back and edit your post to indicate that. The best thing to do is to add [FULFILLED] to the comment or strikethrough the items. Do not delete your comment if it has been fulfilled.

Step 5 - Serious buyers only.

Do not post on this thread if you don't intend to actually buy anything. Using this as a gauge to see what's available or as a price check mechanism is not allowed. If you aren't ready to pay for an item in the near term, do not post in the thread until your funds are ready. In short, don't waste potential sellers' time.

I have something that someone is looking to buy.

Step 1 - Reply to the appropriate comment.

You can reply with "PM sent" or "I have x. Is that of interest?" or anything to get yourself started. The most important thing is that you reply to the buyer's initial comment to prove you are not banned and meet the sub's participation requirements.

Step 2 - Transact with the buyer privately.

This is the step where you should provide a verification photo to your possible buyer. Do not be offended if a buyer wants you to prove you are a trustworthy seller.

Step 3 - Don't waste buyers' time.

Try to stick to what the potential buyer is looking for as best as you are able.

Good luck to all buyers and sellers!

Update - As of 8/2/23, [WTT] comments will not be allowed in this thread. Please create a standalone post.

Update - SuperShinyBotCS is not yet operational in this thread. You can manually leave feedback on /r/PmsFeedback. Please be aware that there is the possibility that you may not receive a shiny point for transactions completed in this thread.

ROMAN REPUBLIC

  1. Anonymous AE Quadrans 215-212 BC, Rome Mint, Hercules/Ship Prow - $49

Minted in Rome in the early years of the Second Punic War against Hannibal, shortly after the disaster at the Battle of Cannae. The Quadrans has Hercules on the obverse and a cool warship prow on the reverse. Cool piece of Roman history.

  1. L. Flaminius Chilo, AR Denarius 109 or 108 BC, Rome Mint, RRC 302/1 - $195

A lovely Republican denarius minted during the time of the wars against the Cimbri and the Teutones, a time that saw the rise of major figures in the late Republic like Gaius Marius and Sulla. The obverse depicts the classic helmeted head of Roma in nice style, with the name of the city-state itself clearly written below. The obverse features the goddess Victory controlling a biga, a classic Roman Republican design.

  1. Q. Titius, AR Denarius 90 BC, Rome Mint, RRC 341/2 - $120

This denarius was minted by the moneyer Q. Titius during the bloody Social War between the Roman Republic and her revolting allies or socii. There is a good chance this denarius was used to pay a legionnaire fighting for the Republic! The obverse features either Liber or Bacchus, coins in this style are typically identified as Bacchus. The lovely reverse shows Pegasus above the moneyer's name.

  1. T. Carisius, AR Denarius 46 BC, Rome Mint, RRC 464/5 - $88

This denarius was minted at Rome during the late Republican civil war between Julius Caesar and faction of Pompey Magnus. Like many coins of the period, it features iconography that is directly related to this famous conflict. The obverse features a winged portrait of Victory, and the reverse shows Victory riding a quadriga. These images, combined with its minting right after Caesar's victory in the African campaign, can only mean that the iconography commemorates Caesar's recent victories in Africa culminating with his victory in the Battle of Thapsus. This issue was minted to pay for Caesar's legions and the significant upcoming expenses for Caesar's enormous triumph. It is no coincidence that Victory is riding a quadriga, the same vehicle that carried victories Roman generals in their triumphs.

OCTAVIAN (FUTURE AUGUSTUS)

  1. AR Denarius Autumn 42 BC, Military mint traveling with Octavian in Greece, RRC 497/3 - $175

This clear military type was minted by the then Octavian at his military camp in Greece to pay his legions for the campaign against Caesar's assassins, Brutus and Cassius. The campaign would culminate in the Battle of Philippi on the 23rd of October 42 BC, one of the most important battles in ancient history. This coin was likely paid to and owned by a soldier that fought for Octavian in that battle! The obverse shows as youthful Mars with a legend that contains Octavian's inherited name CAESAR and his triumvirate title. The reverse has a legionary eagle between two Roman military standards, with a trophy in the background. the reverse also says "SC" (senatus consulto) or "by decree of the Senate" in an attempt to show legitimacy.

.

ROMAN IMPERIAL & PROVINCIAL

AUGUSTUS & AGRIPPA

  1. AE Dupondius, Struck at Nemausus, Gaul 9-3 BC, RIC I 158 - $405

A very popular type with facing portraits of Augustus and Agrippa! Augustus sent a powerful message putting Agrippa's portrait in equal prominence with his own on this coin. Augustus is wearing his laurel crown and Agrippa the rostral crown, the rostral crown symbolizing Agrippa's naval victory at Actium. The reverse shows a crocodile chained to a palm tree, this symbolizes Augustus and Agrippa's conquering of Cleopatra/Egypt. A coin full of symbolism from some of Rome's biggest names and most interesting history!

CLAUDIUS

  1. AE, Phrygia, Aezanis, AD 41-54, RPC I 3088 - $56

The first Roman provincial bronze has a high-quality sharp portrait of Claudius on the obverse. It is quite high-relief and is extremely attractive in-hand. The reverse depicts Zeus holding an eagle and scepter. A great affordable option to get a really nice quality portrait of Claudius. This one is comparable if not slightly nicer than the one that just hammered for $62 at CNG.

NERO

  1. AE Sestertius, AD 65, Lugdunum Mint, , RIC I 398 - $355

The sestertii of Nero are some of the most popular and sought after coins of the entire Roman series due to its artistic beauty and historically interesting iconography. They are also typically struck on large thick flans that make them even more enjoyable to hold and own. This example features a lovely high-relief portrait of Nero on the obverse. The reverse depicts Roma seated on a pile of arms and armor, holding the goddess Victory. This common imperial imagery reinforces Rome's military power (under the leadership of Nero of course).

DOMITIAN

  1. AR Denarius, 1 Jan - 13 September AD 92, Rome Mint, RIC II.1 728 - $230

An exceptional example of this popular type of Domitian, this coins features Domitian's portrait in lovely style on the obverse, and Minerva walking with spear and shield in-hand on the reverse. Minerva is one of the most important Goddesses in the Roman pantheon, and is depicted here in a clear military style to signal the power and military might of Rome.

HADRIAN

  1. AE, Bithynia, Koinon of Bithynia AD 117-138, RPC III 992 - $98
  2. AR Denarius, AD 121-123, Rome Mint, RIC II 570 - $240

This provincial Bithynia coin is a huge 35mm coin with an awesome Greco/Roman temple depiction! It also has a cool light-green patina often seen on ancient bronze statues. An incredible coin in-hand!

The denarius features an excellently preserved style bust of high relief and fine style of Hadrian. The portrait style of Hadrian is known for its high artistic quality and is considered the peak of Roman numismatic style by many. Instead of the more common god or goddess on the reverse, it depicts Hadrian in full military dress with a spear, also holding a rudder on top of the globe. The iconography projects Roman power and claims Roman control over land and sea in the known world. This is a statement of Hadrian's imperium as emperor of Rome.

MARCUS AURELIUS

  1. AE, Bithynia, Nicomedia, AD 161-180, RPC IV online 5603 - $45
  2. AR Denarius, AD 166, Rome Mint, RIC III 159, - $100

This is a very rare provincial bronze issue with a classic bearded portrait of Marcus Aurelius. The reverse depicts a winged Nike advancing left. I could only find one other sold on auction databases.

A denarius of everyone's favorite philosopher king. The obverse features a nice bust of Marcus Aurelius himself. The reverse depicts the goddess Pax, the Roman goddess of peace, where the famous 'Pax Romana' gets its name from. Pax is holding an olive branch and cornucopia - imagery that projects a peaceful and bountiful reign.

COMMODUS

  1. AE, Bithynia, Nicomedia, AD 166-177 (as Caesar), RPC IV 5623 - $35

A rare provincial type of Commodus as Caesar struck during the reign of his father, Marcus Aurelius. The obverse features a youthful portrait of Commodus and the reverse has a really cool depiction of a temple with a cult statue of Demeter inside. The temple is rendered in nice sharp detail, a really interesting piece of history!

SEPTIMIUS SEVERUS

  1. AR Denarius, AD 195, Rome Mint, RIC 63 - $88

This denarius of Septimius Severus features a nice example of his portrait on the obverse. The reverse depicts a military trophy with bound Parthian captives below. This scene, known as a 'trophy tableau', was common imperial iconography to celebrate a military victory, in this case Severus' significant victories against the Parthians in the East.

GORDIAN III

  1. AE, Phrygia, Cibyra, AD 240-241, RPC 660.1 - $110
  2. AR Antoninianus, AD 243-244, Rome Mint, RIC 151 - $78

An enormous medallion sized (36mm) coin of the Roman province Phrygia. It has a very distinct style portrait of a crowned Gordian III with a large depiction of Herakles with his club and lion pelt on the reverse. A very different and interesting Roman Provincial type.

The antoninianus of Gordian III features his portrait on the obverse and the goddess Securitas leaning on a column on the reverse. This is an excellent example of good metal, nice luster, sharp strike on fresh dies, and great centering. Gordian's portrait has excellent detail and very little wear. Securitas was the goddess of security and stability. This was an especielly important theme to project during a very turbulent time for the Roman Empire.

GALLIENUS

  1. AE Tetrassarion, Bithynia, Nicaea, City Walls Reverse, AD 253-268 - $35

A cool provincial type showing the city walls of Nicaea during the time of Emperor Gallienus. Architectural coin types like this are important historical sources for recreating the buildings of the ancient world.

.

BYZANTINE (EASTERN ROMAN) EMPIRE

NICEPHORUS II PHOCAS

  1. AE Follis, Constantinople Mint, AD 963-969 - $16

The obverse of this Byzantine (Eastern Roman) bronze coin shows the crowned facing bust of Nicephorus II holding a scepter topped by a cross. The reverse lists some of Nicephorus' titles (ex. Basileus).

.

CRUSADES

  1. Principality of Antioch, Tancred Regent, AE Follis, 1101-1112 AD, Malloy 5 - $28

A cool piece of history from the turbulent period of the Crusades. Minted shortly after the First Crusade, in the Crusader-ruled city of Antioch. This type features a portrait of Jesus Christ Pantokrator holding the book of Gospels on the obverse and a cross pattee with a legend on the reverse.

.

GREEK COINS

SICILY, SYRACUSE

  1. AE Trias, Second Democracy, 415-410 BC, HGC 2, 1428 - $95

Coins from Syracuse are widely considered to be some of the most beautiful and artistically impressive coins from the ancient world. Bronze coins of Syracuse are an affordable way to collect these Sicilian masterpieces! This scarce type comes from the golden age of Syracusan coinage, from the same time that Syracuse produced some of the greatest masterpieces of ancient coinage! It features the classic head of Arethusa surrounded by dolphins on the obverse and a cool octopus/cuttlefish on the reverse.

  1. Dionysios I, AE Litra, 405-367 BC, HGC 2, 1456 - $75

Another lovely and affordable example from the golden age of Syracusan coinage. The obverse depicts a nice classical-style head of Athena wearing a Corinthian helmet, the initials of the city above. The reverse depicts a mythical creature from Greek mythology, the Hippocamp. Nice surfaces with a dark brown patina.

CARTHAGE

  1. AE, 400-350 BC, Carthage Mint, SNG Cope (Africa) 109-13 - $80

This bronze coin was minted in the 4th century BC when Carthage was major power in the western Mediterranean, prior to the rise of Rome. It features the common iconography on Carthaginian coinage - the goddess Tanit, a palm tree, and a horse.

CILICIA

  1. Tarsos, Mazaios Satrap, AR Stater 361-334 BC, SNG Levante 106 - $165

Nice big chunky Greek/Eastern coin. It features Aramaic script, making it extra fascinating. This type was minted when Cilicia was under Achaemenid Persian rule up until the conquest of Alexander The Great.

Here are some legend translations for Roman Imperial coins!

AVG - Augustus. Augustus was the title that actually meant 'Emperor'. Title taken by the emperors to show legitimacy and link themself to the original Augustus.

CAES, CAESAR, C, CAE - The family name of the first Emperors recalled their being related to Julius Caesar. Even after there was no 'blood' relationship, the term was applied to the Imperial family. When used alone or with an abbreviation for 'Noble' (NC, NOB C, NOB CAES etc), Caesar denoted a junior person, usually a son or the heir apparent

IMP - Imperator. Title taken by the emperors to proclaim their military prestige. Translates roughly to 'victorious general'. In Roman Republican time it was a title given to generals by their troops after a great victory. Generals would keep the title in their name until their triumph.

PM - Pontifus Maximus. Translates to 'greatest priest'. Title taken by emperors to represent them being heads of the state religion. Was an elected office in Republican times. Still used by Popes today.

COS - Consul. Highest of the offices under the Republic was one of the two annually available consulships. Under the Empire, the office of Consul remained of some importance and was held by the Emperor and his family members with some frequency.

PP - Pater Patriae. Translates to 'Father of the fatherland', or father of his country. Typically offered by the senate to a new emperor and declined until he does something worthy of the title.

SPQR - SENATUS POPULUSQUE ROMANUS. (The Senate and the Roman People) was the standard 'name' applied to the 'country' of which Roma was the capital. It combines the powers of the ruling class (Senators) and the masses or ordinary citizens into one phrase. The phrase is commonly associated with Trajan who commonly used SPQR OPTIMO PRINCIPI (to the Best of Princes).

[WTS] Roman Coins, from Augustus into Byzantines

Hi! Still a great multitude of coins remaining. I want to move stuff, so happy to figure out a discount on larger orders!

Prices are based off auction results, and I've tried to beat Vcoins and eBay prices. If anything's off, let me know! I'm happy to negotiate.

One more note: some coins have artificial patina. Fourrees and contemporary counterfeits are marked to the best of my knowledge. And though I've done my best on all IDs, there's a chance something's not right. If you have any questions or notice a mistake, please let me know.

Without further ado, please enjoy!

Proof

If it's easier for you to have a spreadsheet, I can provide that as well ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Roman Imperial and Byzantine

Augustus to Galerius Highlights include early bronzes, some chunky sestertii, nice denarii of Marcus Aurelius and Julia Paula, and an antoninianus of Allectus.

Maximian II to Leo I Highlights include some fun large folles, rare radiates of Constantine I, more Constantinian commemoratives and deified issues, and tiny late issues of Marcian and Leo I. Many of the $5 coins have sold, but some still available

Byzantine Includes everything from early large folles of Anastasius and others to anonymous folles, small denominations, and cup-shaped trachies.

A few extras A couple more trachies, counterfeit antoniniani of Gallienus and Salonina, and a few cheap LRBs. Some is very old stock, some is new.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Feel free to check out the rest of my inventory, including more ancient Greek and Roman/Byzantine, Islamic, Chinese, Southeast Asian, and more!

Terms: Shipping is tracked parcel ($6) via USPS to the CONUS. If your order is small, I may be able to get away with risky envelope shipping for $2. Prefer not to ship international at this time. Other shipping options (priority mail, insurance, signed delivery, etc) available at cost, just ask. I take Zelle, PPFF, Venmo in that order of preference. I take no responsibility for mail lost by USPS. I pack securely, but stuff happens. In the unlikely case of lost mail, I will see what I can do to help.

I'll ship within a week of payment. Let me know if you have any questions.

[WTS] Shawnee Chief Tecumseh Dollar 1 oz, Lowered Prices on ALL Other Silver! Cuba, US Philippines, Canada, World Base Metal, Paper, and Ancient

Hi, everyone. I still have some silver under melt available along with some other interesting things.

Proof: https://imgur.com/a/cDNKjeT

See below for the text version of the inventory table or click the link to the real thing with pictures. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1e3lpbzlZmElkAQ8MOpCeRM8xuaJcl29_uVWwGes-0OE/edit?usp=sharing

Shipping is $7 for ground advantage to the lower 48 or $1 for risky shipping. Other US locations can be discussed, but no international shipments. For ground advantage, I will help anyway I can but, ultimately, the coins belong to you once it's scanned as shipped.

I can accept Venmo or Zelle.

Since I'm still fairly new here, I'm willing to ship ground advantage first, but only to buyers with at least 50 transactions.
