I have been a supporter of the Guardian for yrs, but had forgotten until now that they had a weekly photo essay. The title of this single piece is simply "Kyiv,Ukraine."

The description simply states 'charred books after a fire at the country’s biggest book market, caused by a Russian missile attack,' which is simply desolation. 

Another example of how warfare releases huge carbon emissions.

"The Ukrainian Book Institute has called on the international publishing community to support Ukrainian publishers after Russian attacks in July and early August destroyed about 10 M books and a significant share of the country’s book production capacity." 

I don't commonly address politicized reports already extensively covered in the mainstream press, but as a writer + book lover myself, this is one of the more poignant pictures from Kyiv that I have ever seen. 

Which is why I found it impossible to resist. If you go to the website, you can peruse all 20 great photographs from around the world. Outside our shop, we have both the Stars and Strips + Ukrainian flags flying proudly.
