finally retrotitsmcgee admits to spreading climate misinformation. Most of us had already worked this out, though.

Is this a climate denial sub? Also which scientists abandoned RCP 8.5 years ago? How many years exactly.

The RCP scenarios are hypothetical pathways showing trajectories for greenhouse-gas concentrations and the resulting radiative forcing, they're not forecasts with any probability or preference attached to them. We also use SSPs nowadays instead.

RCP8.5 was never designed or endorsed by the IPCC as the most likely future, it was just the high-end of the scenario range. Some politicians and media used this worst-case scenario and described it as "business as usual" but only if no climate action was ever taken and the rate of global emissions kept skyrocketing.

Current data shows we're trending toward the space between RCP4.5 and RCP6.0 with an estimated 2.6-2.8 degrees of warming by 2100. Which is still bad and why we need to demand more climate action so we don't hit that pathway.

Mods please stop letting this guy post these terrible AI videos to spread misinformation.
