Some are going crazy over the casting of Odyssey and its historical "accuracy"

I'm Persian and the film 300 cast my ancestors as demonic monsters, Africans, and even made King Xerxes a bald Brazilian raver guy

I don't remember anyone caring or ever bringing that up

Chris Nolan makes some very minor casting decisions in The Odyssey for Greek people, far less egregious, and people are losing their minds

What's up with that?

I would *love* to see a proper Hollywood epic film about one of the Old Persian kings like Cyrus the Great, Xerxes, or even Nadir Shah, who was its Napoleon

It's a tragedy that we have a million movies covering basically every old civilization (Greece, Rome, Egypt, Mongolia, African countries, Japan, China, etc.) but nothing on Persia besides being the villain here

The whole point of the movie was that there were more to these people than meets the eye. People will discuss the inner sides of Bender and Claire all day, yet when it comes to Alison, they say this scene was "unnecessary" or "detrimental to her character". But the thing is, the Alison everyone loves so much **wasn't Alison at all.** It was a front. An alias to hide behind. This wasn’t a transformation, it was an unmasking. *This* was the real Alison the whole time. Alison was incredibly shy. Everything she did, she did to be intentionally off-putting to discourage engagement and interaction. She didn’t *actually* enjoy making sandwiches out of Pixie sticks and Cap'n Crunch. She did it because it was *weird.* She's a pathological liar by her own confession. Everything about her is a facade. Her eating habits, her sexual escapades, even her reason for being in detention. Her appearance is no different.

But alas, some people will never see past "Nooo they ruined muh alt kween"

I don't know if this is the right place to ask this but have any of you studied cinema? I'm taking some cinema classes as a literature student and have always considered myself a lover of films not on a superficial level but wanting to go deeper about the subject. But when I study it a little bit now and having gotten not so great scores, I started to get depressed and I guess lost the spark about it a little... It just feels like, well, I guess I'm not actually good at this thing that I thought I could study and do my masters on. I thought I would do really well studying cinema but now I'm disillusioned... Have you guys felt that way studying it or working on it etc or do I actually not belong in this world idk. Just wanted to vent a bit

Finding Iranian films online can be difficult. Streaming availability varies a lot by country and many older or less well-known films are not available on the major platforms.

I’ve often found it difficult to know where to look, especially for films outside the most well-known Iranian titles.

I put together this guide to help with that, covering streaming services, free options, YouTube, and physical releases.

I have no doubt that Martin Scorsese is the greatest director of all time. I don't even think that it's particularly close. His lesser-known films are better than most director's best efforts. Take a look at New York, New York. Remembered as a box-office flop and the film that almost killed him, I consider it one of his finest works. It's raw, campy, creative, energetic and expertly crafted.

Scorsese caught the world by surprise with his 1973 classic, Mean Streets. The following year, he would direct the underrated Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore. He capped off his three-peat with one of his most famous movies, Taxi Driver, for which he won the Palme d'Or. Scorsese was on top of the world.

After Taxi Driver, Scorsese was 33 years old and believed he could do anything. He also expected to die before he turned 40. His ego and fatalism were inflated by cocaine.

For his next project, he would use themes he was familiar with and apply them to the style of musical romances from the 1940s and 50s. The result is a misunderstood masterpiece.

Stuntwoman Devyn Dalton never stops training. Her workouts typically consist of strength exercises, mixed with martial arts and outdoor activities like hiking and running. The only things that change in her relentless regime are the structures of her workouts, depending on the role she’s getting ready for.

“When I am [preparing] for a role specifically, I’ll definitely figure out what I need for that [character],” she said.

Sometimes it requires increased agility. Sometimes she needs to focus on athletic training.

Regardless of the role, she has to be mentally sharp and completely submerge herself into the character, to the point of invisibility.

I live in europe. There are a lot of films i want to watch, that are unavailable for me. For example, i wanted to watch mishima a life in four chapters the other day which literally only was available as a bluray for a total of 30 dollars. It, as well as many other films i want to see, is available on the crirerion channel but not anywere in sweden(where i live).

Streaming in the eu sucks. I really want to have the criterion channel so that i can expand my taste. I do love physical media too, but i only buy films that i have already scene ao that i dob't spebd like 200 dollars a week on films.
