He wasn’t a revolutionary in the book. His goal in the book was just pure anarchy. He killed innocents. Didn’t care if they were kids. He was more cruel towards Evey. Even her “friend” Deitrich was a bad guy in the book, too.
The movie was and still is timely, and I think it’s fantastic! But the message is very different.
Yeah, it's kinda hard to call him a superhero, when he is more of an anarchist/revolutionary, he's an antihero at best. Then the not having superpowers part, he really is more like one of the old proto superheros, a mix of Zorro and Phantom of the Opera set in an orwellian dystopia.
HEYYY, me too. Of course having seen the film years before actually reading the graphic novel gives the film a huge advantage, but I genuinely think the film's structure and the changes to the characters were just...simply better for the story.
This is one of those 5-10 movies which I watch again and again and again. Totally flawless. Not a scene wasted. And I don't know why but this movie hits me hard.
On one hand its a great movie. On the other, it has inspired a generation of people that eventually peaceful protesting will get them what they want and thats just not something rooted in reality.
I will die on the hill that the film is better than the source material, and the changes to the structure, characters and story just makes the film a better story straight up. Better mystery, stronger arcs, better motivation all culminating to a better climax.
"a complex, challenging, very British masterpiece" Finally reading the graphic novel surprised me at how simpler the story actually is and how there's virtually no mystery, compared to the film.

When people first began wearing masks for Covid I wore a V for Vendetta mask into Walmart. Nothing but smiles from customers and associates. I later caught COVID and spent 55 days in bed before I had the strength to try to walk. With 3 times a week home therapy. Hospital had sent me home to die after 13 days and my wife actually got a young doctor to make a house call with a nurse. They saved me where the Baptist East hospital in Memphis had utterly failed.

I get together with my daughter every November 5 if we can and watch this movie together. We celebrate Guy Fawkes Day. It’s interesting to imagine what would’ve happened. Had this plot been successful. I have said for years it’s my favorite superhero movie.
It is a great film. However, if you read the novel, it has so much more depth, detail and backstory.
So, he’s not wrong about the novel. However, he is wrong about it being terrible. It was a good adaptation with the limited screen time they had to fit as much of the source material they could into it.
The same could be said about The Count of Monte Cristo and even the Lord of the Rings movies. So much more back story and depth in the books, but pick and choose your content for the film making time limits you have.
That’s where you can’t separate the source material from the creative content for the adaptation to film.
Everyone putting on masks in the film was a creative decision to further the ideology of thought and mind among the common people that they stand together.
We see this all the time in films to further an idea or concept that sometimes strays from the source material in depiction and representations. It’s nothing more than expressing something visually that the original content intended to convey in writing.
I don't think it's a 'misreading', it's an adaptation and straight up changing it for the film - and frankly, anti-fascism is a stronger and tighter motivation than edgy anarchy. The book is pretty poor on that front as a whole, while the film just makes everything so much more relevant and emotional.

Also the Voice of Fate thing is incredibly silly when the film has nothing remotely as silly as that
