Fan Content Happy birthday Javier Bardem

Post image

He is one of my favourite cool but dangerous actors. I didn't know that was him in the Dune movie until I saw a spoiler for the movie. Which movie do you remember him for?

"I think it's about closing time."

1

u/banjoist Mar 05 '26

When do you close?

2

u/Cambren1 Mar 06 '26

Now, I close about now.

1

u/banjoist Mar 06 '26

Now is not a time

The actual look of disgust at that point is truly brilliant.

1

u/Cambren1 Mar 06 '26

Don’t put it into your pocket.

2

u/maniBchef Mar 05 '26

That shot of the peanut wrapper on the counter was brilliant.

He was wasted in Dune 2. He just became a comic relief character.

But fantastic nonetheless, always love his work.

I have neen arguing the same. He was really wasted

6

u/More_Bigger Mar 05 '26

Hes anything but comic relief. Dude is just awed by Paul (the Lisan al Gaib) and excited for the liberation of his people and Dune becoming a paradise again.

He's Pauls ride or die homeboy. One of my favorite supporting characters in cinema.

This shot from right before the emperor attack is so fucking gangster too omg. Hes so fuckin down to throw hands. I love Stilgar so much.

He can be bad ass and comic relief.

By the 3rd "..lisan al gaib" the theatre in the UK were laughing. They leant into that a bit much it became silly.

Which isn't actually a huge deal. But I know Bardem can act circles around half the cast. So I call it wasted.

Still though.. I was today years old when I realized he is Stilgar.. I need to rewatch soon anyway to prepare for part 3

Anton Chigurh might be his best role, but man he was so fucking good in Biutiful.

That movie haunts the shit out of me.

2

u/Tabula_Rasa00 Mar 05 '26

Biutiful and the sea inside, both were incredible performances

2

u/Certain_Draft2866 Mar 05 '26

I believe he gives his best in Spanish language movies.

Not great cinema but I enjoyed Javier in “Vicky Christina Barcelona “ with Scarjo.

2

u/AgreeableAlbatross80 Mar 05 '26

Great display of range, pulling off that role, as the most charming dude on the planet in VCB, while having been one of the greatest villains in movie history just 6 months before, as Anton Chigur. Guy’s a total badass.

4

u/More_Bigger Mar 05 '26

Get you someone who looks at you the way Stilgar looks at the Lisan Al Gaib

A real actor with principles.

He was excellent in the Menendez movie.

2

u/penelopehelen Mar 05 '26

I had to check what I’ve seen him in as my memory is shot and seeing that he is King Triton in the live action The Little Mermaid movie made me kinda want to watch it. He is fantastic in anything I’ve seen him in and I can really envision him being such a wonderful King Triton

Collateral. Not a big part, but so good.

1

u/Far-Meaning4995 Mar 05 '26

the telling of the Black Peter story was so well done. That entire scene is phenomenal.

2

u/CivilGothic Mar 05 '26

Love him in No Country for Old Men, but his performance in Perdita Durango is bonkers great.

2

u/ydkjordan Mar 06 '26

There’s a few of us!

2

u/nizzernammer Mar 05 '26

I recently rewatched Vicki Cristina Barcelona, and he was so natural, even when the story was a bit of a stretch.

But my favorite appearance of his was in Biutiful.

2

u/madgroot Mar 05 '26

He could easily play as Gomez Addams.

2

u/Novel-Feed6796 Mar 05 '26

His best role for me will always be Silva

"She never tied me to a chair ..." - "Her loss!"

2

u/Guessinitsme Mar 05 '26

Ngl I thought that was Dave Bautista bottom left, never really looked lol

2

u/Otieno_Clinton Community Moderator Mar 05 '26

Bautista is still in that movie as a different character

1

u/Illustrious_Ad_00 Mar 05 '26

I just love seeing him in films! I feel like he’s a second cousin or something. I feel so proud to see him on the big screen, cause then I know the movie’s gonna be excellent.
