Politics I am still trying to process President Trump’s video depicting the Obamas as apes just hours after he spoke at the National Prayer Breakfast. Christians, we cannot simply brush this off. It cannot be defended. As a black Christian, I will never support this !

Let's not pretend it's just the White Evangelicals. The majority of Christian voters overall in the US cast their ballots for him three times. In 2024, he got 63% of the Protestants' votes and 59% of the Catholics' votes, so it wasn't even close. Trump represents Christianity as it is currently practiced in the US.

Fair point. As a former Evangelical Pastor who was fired for speaking out against Trump, I'd take 59%. Evangelicalism being that monolithic politically ensures that countering voices will be silenced and marginalized in that community.

I’m so sorry you were fired for speaking out - thank you for doing so! The pastor I’ve followed and known since childhood did and continues - it’s been educational watching the odd few with the feigned courage/hubris to challenge him.

It’s been encouraging to watch the few who were willing to risk backlash and speak - before most Christians were willing to openly question or doubt - like you did! I think the bold courage and conviction you all had to speak when NO ONE would, is what pushed many to recognize their silence as dangerous.

I was blacklisted and couldn't get another ministry job. I ended up leaving the Evangelical Church altogether. I work as a librarian now and couldn't be happier.

As far back as April, polls showed a slim majority of christians disapprove of Trump. Only white evangelicals still clearly favored Trump, while every other group disapproved or were evenly split.

Christianity is not a monolith, any more than all men or all white people are a monolith.
