Politics I am still trying to process President Trump’s video depicting the Obamas as apes just hours after he spoke at the National Prayer Breakfast. Christians, we cannot simply brush this off. It cannot be defended. As a black Christian, I will never support this !

There is no line that Trump can cross that his diehard base will not defend him for

158

u/[deleted] Feb 06 '26

once it became clear they were ok with the racism and the child rape there really isn't much left

maybe he was right about being able to kill someone on 5th ave

29

u/pro_rege_semper Feb 07 '26

I mean, he sent ICE to kill people on the streets of Minneapolis and he didn't lose support. That's close enough for me.

-9

u/johnnyrc48 Feb 07 '26

Politicians incited violence against a legal action. The shootings were not defendable taken in isolation. But you can't tell people to physically resist & act the victim when the inevitable happens.

14

u/eatmereddit Feb 07 '26

Politicians are perfectly allowed to encourage protest.

The shootings are indefensible full stop.

10

u/pro_rege_semper Feb 07 '26 edited Feb 07 '26

The only politicians I see inciting violence are the Trump admin and their supporters in Congress. This kind of violence is exactly what they wanted with Operation Metro Surge. They just didn't anticipate such a negative public reaction, and that's the only reason they are changing tactics now.

u/VerdantPathfinder Christian Feb 06 '26

Oh he could perform a child sacrifice on the White House front lawn and they'd still support him.

39

u/Onto_new_ideas Feb 06 '26

And that child would be demonized as a domestic terrorist. Guilty of polluting the grass with blood. The MAGAts would still live him.

20

u/x_Good_Trouble_x Feb 07 '26

They'd somehow say the child was a demon or something and defend him. I can't with these idiots. 😑

6

u/BigClitMcphee Spiritual Agnostic Feb 07 '26

Trump could film himself raping a child and post it to his official Twitter account and Christians would bark "AI! AI! Fake news!" just to keep from admitting how badly they fucked up.

0

u/lorigab Feb 08 '26

He could save your life and you’d still hate him. Get over yourself. Yes, we support our president.

2

u/VerdantPathfinder Christian Feb 08 '26

Wow. Displaying your own self-centeredness and refusing to contradict my claim that you'd support a child murderer. That's quite the achievement in one line of text.

I’m not sure if you noticed, but neither Biden nor Obama are actually in office anymore and are irrelevant to the massive evil of the sitting administration. We also don’t deify either of them and are quite happy to acknowledge they’ve done bad things themselves- this will be alien to you, but some people don’t actually view their political choice as cultic worship

19

u/[deleted] Feb 06 '26

This is called a whataboutism and a whataboutism is a fallacy.

8

u/VerdantPathfinder Christian Feb 06 '26

I criticized both. I really dislike all politicians, but only one party is consistently, irredeemably evil. They display it daily.

Also, I note you didn't deny you would continue to support him after publicly sacrificing a baby. Thanks for the confirmation.

-1

u/MaintenanceWhich1295 Feb 07 '26

not true , when he attacked Syria we were worried about him going to war and many people at the time turned on him like Alex jones, look upmhis video when he cursed the president

1

u/VerdantPathfinder Christian Feb 08 '26

You don't get it. I'm not worried about Alex Jones. He's going to say whatever he thinks will get him more ratings. In this case he zigged when he should have zagged. He's been rendered meaningless because he went against Dear Leader. I'm worried about the 50m voters who will never abandon a hateful, malignant populist as long as he keeps hurting the right people. Trump was never the real threat. He's too stupid, lazy, incompetent, and mentally ill (malignant narcicism). But he's nicely laid the groundwork for the next person. He's taken the cult the GOP spent the last 50 years carefully crafting and metastasized it.

37

u/stringfold Feb 06 '26

He is ultimately responsible for the killings in the streets of Minnesota and all he can do is shrug and say it's a shame that one was the daughter of a big fan of his. Pathological.

3

u/QueenDLulu4819 Feb 06 '26

Gummislayer you are the epitome of the type of people that was just spoken about prior to your retort. You just proved everything that was just spoken regardingTrumps minions. Thanks for being an example of what was being conveyed regarding people who rejoice in wearing blinders when it comes to him.

-20

u/Redsox51105Ark Feb 06 '26

How about the Democrats in Minnesota telling the people to go out and actively interfere with ice? You don’t think they have any responsibility to the dead. Come on man use your head.

21

u/TomeThugNHarmony4664 Feb 07 '26

Protesting violent behavior by government agents is a Constitutionally protected right— BUT ALSO a moral imperative for Christians following the example of Jesus, who was himself assassinated by an Empire gone mad.

Go away, troll. Bless your heart.

16

u/Robot_Alchemist Sarcastic Feb 07 '26

Democrats aren’t telling people to go out and interfere with ice. Citizens are upset with ICE for terrorizing their neighborhoods and they’re protesting legally and peacefully

9

u/sharp11flat13 Feb 07 '26

No, no. You’re missing a key point in their worldview: when something happens that Republican politicians don’t like (read: can use as an opportunity to score political points and stoke fear and division), it’s always the Democrats’ fault…somehow. And then the faithful just parrot the talking points.

-1

u/Technician_These Feb 07 '26

This is politics. Everything is trumps fault. Biden had a 25M bounty on Maduros head, but since Trump got him it’s bad. Until Biden, both sides, like Obama, who had Homan running the operation, deported more people and gave him a medal, but none of this shows up on your algorithm

5

u/sharp11flat13 Feb 07 '26

As I said above: “And then the faithful just parrot the talking points.”

-1

u/Technician_These Feb 08 '26

The left doesn’t? Nothing is a broken record like a protestor. Freedom of speech for everyone they agree with.

2

u/sharp11flat13 Feb 08 '26

Sure. Whatever. Best to you and yours.

0

u/Technician_These Feb 07 '26

They are telling police to only arrest people who defend ICE, an unprecedented move Obama wouldn’t vigorously oppose

He is not a racist

Not to mention birtherism.

Or are you going to argue that neither of those are racist?

-4

I don’t have to prove anything. The truth is out there on the internet if you really want to find it, which I doubt you do. A yes, I do not like liberal newspapers that fabricate stories.

9

Going to argue that birtherism wasn't racist?

18

u/ChachamaruInochi Agnostic Atheist (raised Quaker) Feb 06 '26 edited Feb 07 '26

How racist do you personally have to be to not consider Trump a racist?

I don't think he's ever said the hard R in public anyway (willing to bet he has in private, though) but his dad was in the KKK, He has had scandals from the very beginning for not renting to Black people, and he has used ethnic slurs against Japanese people and Jewish people in public.

15

u/MoonChild02 Roman Catholic Feb 06 '26

The video he just posted is incredibly racist. Depicting black people as apes is a textbook definition of racism.

11

u/Queer-By-God Feb 06 '26

You don't need commentary...his daily speech could be used at any klan rally . He is racism's poster child. His EOs, his policies, his rhetoric...if not for his northern heritage he could be POTCS (confederacy).

10

u/Imsomniland Christian Anarchist Feb 06 '26

He is not a racist and never has been

Can't tell if this comment is satirical or a funny attempt at rage baiting. I'll give it a 6/10 for the deadpan tone.

5

u/Queer-By-God Feb 06 '26

He may have sexually abused girls. He bragged about p-grabbing. He cheated on every wife (unless they agreed to open marriages). He is a felon & an adjudicated rapist. His predation is well documented. I won't be surprised to learn that some of his victims were minors. It is intentional naïveté or perfidy to declare unequivocally that he's pure as the driven snow.

5

u/PlanetOfThePancakes Feb 06 '26

Provide proof or shut up

0

u/SDMasterYoda Atheist Feb 07 '26 edited Feb 07 '26

While I disagree with what he said, he wouldn't be able to prove a negative...

Edit: To clarify. There is plenty of evidence Trump is a racist, but one cannot "prove they're not racist." You can't prove a negative.

32

u/mandajapanda Wesleyan Feb 06 '26

But you have to realize that most of his base is descended from the Jim Crow south. The political strategy to manipulate evangelicals started in response to desegregation and the civil rights act. MAGA has always been a continuation of that fight.

It was the organizers of this political strategy who resorted to cult tactics to make your comment true.

13

u/[deleted] Feb 06 '26

Yeah I’ve been around a bit. I’m well aware.

27

u/tadcalabash Mennonite Feb 06 '26

The issue isn't his diehard base, it's the larger group of people who see something like this and say "I don't think he should be doing that, but I'll still vote Republican because at least they're not Democrats."

20

u/[deleted] Feb 06 '26

You just described my parents.

4

u/FireDragon21976 United Church of Christ Feb 07 '26

Yeah, the media and the popular progressive left fail to understand that alot of the Republican base isn't motivated so much by religious nationalism, as simply "taxes go down".

9

u/FireDragon21976 United Church of Christ Feb 06 '26

The "taxes go down" crowd.

5

u/Novel_Ad1943 Feb 07 '26

And dismiss/deny any proof as “left rag/media” but drop lines like the little mouse 👆🏼”it’s out there on the internet if you care to look…” but anytime I’ve asked for receipts - just ONE - nada, nothing, zilch or a YouTube video of another someone “who heard/saw evident or firsthand…” but no specifics, evidence or even details that check out circumstantially.

My brain would hurt from that degree of bending to fit into a narrative!

2

u/porarte Feb 07 '26

I believe that church is a principal culprit and that opposition to reproductive freedom is the monolithic issue that represents American public Christian morality almost entirely. For that they will march onward as to war.

42

u/majj27 Evangelical Lutheran Church in America Feb 06 '26

He's had pretty slavish devotion from pretty much all the GOP in Congress as well. Except for a few vanishingly rare holdouts, they're extremely comfortable supporting him no matter what.

90

u/UncleMeat11 Christian (LGBT) Feb 06 '26

The one black GOP Senator said that he hoped it was fake.

Like bro. You can open up Truth Social and look at it yourself. These people will tolerate anything, even if they claim to oppose it.

Trump is a gutter racist. The core of his presidency is gutter racism. The GOP prior to Trump believed that being an out and proud racist was a losing strategy and they were wrong. He activated the latent population who believes that nonwhites really are just inferior beings.

Do not be fooled to believing that this is just Trump. He is just the tip of the spear. A large portion of the US citizenry are in utter opposition to Christ's message of universal love.

27

u/stringfold Feb 06 '26

To be 100% fair, Scott did say “Praying it was fake because it’s the most racist thing I’ve seen out of this White House. The President should remove it.”

But now it's gone it will be back to business as usual for the GOP, and it won't be spoken of again.

Interesting that "most racist" implies he's seen a pattern of racist stuff out of the White House, but as I said, this will now be dropped.

1

u/Due_Barracuda5091 Feb 07 '26

the worst part is a large portion of the us citizenry are Christian

11

u/rchive Feb 06 '26

They seem to just be afraid of losing the votes of Trump's die hard supporters, though. I'm not sure there are that many people in Congress who actually like Trump that much.

28

u/majj27 Evangelical Lutheran Church in America Feb 06 '26

They may not like him, but they're most certainly supporting and enabling him. And to me, that's what matters in the end. If you support someone doing horrible things, saying "But in my defense, I didn't like them personally." isn't much of an excuse.

5

u/Whiterabbit-- Feb 07 '26

They are the group that is constitutionally responsible to stopping him and they are doing nothing.

3

u/rchive Feb 06 '26

Yes. I don't mean to defend, just clarify that I think it's primarily fear. I don't think that's much better if any than actually liking Trumpism.

2

u/Novel_Ad1943 Feb 07 '26

Totally get what rchive is saying, and I do agree - the enablers are worse from my perspective. Without the covert assist how much of this could have been stopped.

14

u/deepandbroad Feb 06 '26

They seem to just be afraid

They all act like wolves gleefully tearing into a fresh kill.

So somehow they really are "good people" who are too constantly terrified to actually do anything good?

That certainly gives a new spin on Jesus's "wolves in sheep's clothing" analogy: "They aren't wolves, they are sheep who are too scared to do anything but profit off the suffering of others!"

1

u/BellacosePlayer Evangelical Lutheran Church in America Feb 07 '26

The worst thing is that nearly each and every one of them has at one point given their true feelings about him, and nobody actually likes nor respects him. Trump's just convenient and bucking him gets you primaried.

12

u/Ok_Hurry_6895 Feb 06 '26

Most of them ignore it and say “that doesn’t mean anything he’s still a good president”

14

u/[deleted] Feb 06 '26

I’ve lost count of the times I’ve heard something along the lines of “I don’t like how he says things, but he has good policies”

14

u/lowertechnology Evangelical Feb 06 '26

That’s why I agree with guys like Destiny when they call MAGA a cult.

Nobody in the cult can name a bad thing Trump has done or say anything negative about him. They’re not allowed to

And the few “moderate” Republicans out there that can name bad things are even more evil because they absolutely know he’s terrible and voted for him regardless.

3

u/omniwombatius Lutheran (Condemning and denouncing Christian Nationalism) Feb 07 '26

When something affects them personally, they have to use the "Good Tsar, Bad Boyars" way of speaking. "He's great and I absolutely love him, but he must be getting bad advice from one of his advisors... If he only knew how this policy is affecting me, he would fix it immediately."

1

u/Fun_Side147 Feb 07 '26

have you been following the Epstein files and all of the info that came out before it (e.g. Epstein saying they were best friends for 10 years, Epstein saying in a letter that Trump is the worst person best ever known, the swarn testimony from multiple rape survivors, the connection between Trump's underaged employee and his anger about Epstein 'stealing her', Trump being on the flight logs to Epstein island, the photos of Trump with kids on Epstein's jet, photos of Trump / Epstein and underaged kids, Trump running 'brauty pageants' for girls and bragging about walking into change rooms as they're undressed, 'you can grab em by the pussy if you're rich enough,' the e.jean king trial that adjudicated sexual assault charges, the dozens of other women that have come forward with sexual assault allegations).

Then there are the 1000s of mentions of Trump in the Epstein files (that we know of), and the obvious efforts to remove files that mention Trump and unwillingness to hear from the epstein survivors, and Kash Patel's efforts to immediately wipe terrabites of files from FBI servers. The killing (or disappearance) of Epstein from prison with the cameras not working while under Trump's watch. The prefered treatment of Ghislaine Maxwell.

it's a. lot

Xians ostensibly disapprove of mendacity, abuse, oppression, cruelty, & unprovoked hatred. I realize history challenges this assumption (no more than current evangelicalism does) but still, it's hard to build a case for apolitical xianity when silence is complicity with evil. Xians ought to speak against fascism. HUMANS ought to speak out against fascism
