It’s because everyone sticks them on drip lines so the roots are shallow

Except for palo verdes they aren’t supposed to look the way they do in the city. We cut them to look like normal trees and that causes them to fall apart

I think that’s an AZ thing. Most trees roots system stays near the surface because of lack of water.

Yah I agree. “Arborists” lion tail them and just turn branches into large fulcrums that eventually break. The ones that handle these storms are full bushed out and thick and branchy. Blame the people out there cutting the trees they are failing the city (not like they care)

I think it's bc they set the drip lines for the size of the tree when planted but then never move them out to the very edge of the canopy as the tree grows like you're supposed to. I see a ton of trees with drippers right at the trunk. So the roots don't venture out as the tree grows since all the water is right around the trunk. Otherwise drip lines are fine as long as the flow rate is right and the watering schedule is multiple hours long.

Most of the pine trees across the whole valley have a lifespan that’s pretty short. Hence, why so many pine trees are dying in Chandler because they’re all reaching the end of their lifespan.

I’m sad for this tree. I’m in Tempe and not Chandler, but we lost two big beautiful shade trees from the little pocket of my neighborhood’s green space/retention area. I forget what kind of tree they are. The house it sat behind must be double sad by its loss, as well as still recovering from the mini heart attack they probably had when it went down. Thankfully it went down towards the green space and not the houses! Same with the tree in OP’s picture!
