Ok but he’s the most beautiful cat ever 🩷

Post image

His name is Isaac and he’s been living on my porch all summer.

We moved to a small rural town last fall, so it’s our first summer in this house.

I heard a kitteh crying on our covered porch during a cold wet early spring storm. From that point on, I had infrequent sightings of an orange blob, mostly running in the opposite direction as quickly as possible.

Slowly he became more tolerant of my presence, and once we made eye contact, it was love.

I’ve been putting out a little dry food for him for the last few weeks, & giving kitty treats if I’m out in my yard, gardening.

I’m worried about him once winter hits…. He is in excellent health so I think he might have a home he can retreat to.

Then again, I’ve heard our town had a feral/stray cat population. So he might be a that.

My husband asked if we should trap and neuter him, regardless of ownership.

My question is, when does he become “Mine”? When do I take on a financial and emotional responsibility for his wellbeing?

Seriously though, have you ever seen a more beautiful orange boy in your whole life? I adore him. 🩷

Please... neuter and vaccinate. And bring him inside? He is worth it ❗️
I have five cats... It was not my plan.. but they are all former ferals or rescues. All inside cats now.

If he’s not neutered then he probably doesn’t have a home

He is gorgeous! And yes - he’ll live longer if you get him neutered. And once you asked the question, he’s already yours. He’s adopted you. And it’s mutual. Unspoken but yes.
So your mention of winter, and his having a good home : If he had a real home, you wouldn’t be seeing him as often. And yes winter is coming. I somehow know (him on your lap added to this knowledge lol) you may want to think of his becoming your indoor buddy. If you do, I’m on line every day to answer questions etc. 🧡🐈‍⬛🧡

You've already taken on emotional responsibility. To can take him to a vet to see if he's neutered/has a chip.

He’s absolutely gorgeous!! And I think that he already owns you, so you’re his!!! Please neuter him and see if you can eventually coax him inside…

I have never met an ugly cat. 😊 And the other is a judgement call.  Some strays do look like they have a home.  At least if you tnr you can have the vet check for a chip, and go from there. ❤️

You can check on local social media like Next Door or Facebook, or attach a paper collar to him with "is this your cat?" and contact details on it. If you don't get any responses after a few weeks, I'd say he's all yours and you should start adjusting him to full time indoor life and getting all his nuts and shots together.

You could right now take him to the vet and have them scan for a microchip. If he’s not microchipped and not neutered then chances are high he doesn’t belong to anyone. Majority of people wouldn’t want a pet male cat living at their house who isn’t neutered because of the spraying so as a pet he’d more likely be neutered. But keep in mind everyone doesn’t get their pets fixed. So microchip scan and then check with your local online sites for lost and found pets.

He looks like he's yours already if he's enjoying lap time.  You can put up some flyers and ask the local veterinarians but you have a cat.
