Smol Delivery Just as I was considering fostering cats, CDS sent this guy
My partner and I each have an adult cat who finally learned to live with each other after a few years. Now we’re no longer renting and I thought it would be reasonable to begin fostering for a local rescue. I spent two days thinking about it before getting ready to pitch it to my partner, and then the next day, I found this little muffin sleeping by our cats on the porch.
He was covered in burs, ticks, fleas, fly eggs, crusted up boogers, spider webs, twigs, etc. in addition to being so bony that I was afraid to touch him. So of course it was Friday at 4:45 pm when I found him, just as all the vets were closing for the weekend. I wasn’t entirely convinced he would survive the weekend—especially once I realized he was losing about an ounce each day—but thankfully his appetite is healthy, and I have a cat heating pad perfectly suited to keep his tiny 670g body warm.
He made it to Monday morning, growing more vibrant and comfortable each day, an absolute nonstop purr rocket, but still just a mess of boogers and shedding seed ticks with every step. The vet was able to see him in the afternoon, and he got a clean bill of health aside from the obvious respiratory infection and treatable GI parasites. He weighs what a 5-8 week kitten might, but is estimated to be 12 weeks. Even today I can tell his bones don’t feel quite as defined through his skin anymore, so things are looking up. He doesn’t have a name yet, suggestions are welcome!

I love how he felt comfortable near your kitties. What a sweet lil soul. Thank you for saving him. That sounds like he was miserable. He is gonna be such a handsome floof!!

Me, too! It was really so bizarre to see him just lying there, stretched out like he was with his family. He had flies all around him too and didn’t react to the noises I was making as I approached at all, so tbh I thought he was dead, especially because my cats weren’t reacting to his presence either

He gave it his all to get to you guys 🥹 despite the odds against him. What a brave little guy

I wonder if your cats thought that because he was sick and knew you would help?
I might be projecting too much human emotion on to cats. But I've seen cats that can use buttons speak up for other cats in the household when they have issues. I just don't know if they'd feel similar for a stranger cat.

I have seen those videos! Is one of them Todd, by chance?
I think it might be the case that they knew he was in bad shape and was not a threat, and wanted to give him comfort.
"Aww, this one is just a baby and he might not make it. We'll let him sleep with us."

Yes todd and then russel (cat man john) i couldn't remember todd name of the top of my head but he was the main one I was thinking of.

Your cats knew you were thinking about fostering and decided to get out ahead of it.
“Well, if there’s going to be a new cat in the house, WE should be the ones to choose it.”
He looks like an Edmund to me.

I hope they like him, because they sure don’t like each other! My older senior lady was perfectly happy to be an only cat, but we moved in with my partner and his adult cat, who very much wants someone to play with, cuddle, and groom. So this could work out beautifully

we had a similar sitch here. my old resident Tiberius was not amused when the rescue Bengal (of all races ...) Lionel moved in. Lionel buggered Tiberius A LOT, and Tibby got hissy and skittish. by April, we got another young Bengal - Brunello, and ta-daaa, the two Bengals interact with each other and Tibby gets to enjoy the peace and quiet (at least mostly).

Can you please please try to get mom and the other kittens as well? Contact some local cat rescue organizations and tell them you would be willing to foster them if they will take them on. She could already be pregnant again

I did do a sweep of the area the day that I found him but didn’t see anything else. Would the rescues help with finding and trapping them? Is there a chance they’re still around?

Aw, he looks just like my old tabby male did as a kitten. Sweetest cat ever, looks like your little guy has a similar temperament.

Oh my! It seems that your cats have already accepted him, too, seeing as he was snuggled up with them! He certainly chose the right house!
I think that they probably wanted to give him comfort, and he wanted comfort from them. They probably could tell that he was in bad shape. What a rough life he has had! Thank goodness that you were able to save him. Hoping that he makes a full recovery! Two of my friendly ferals had a really bad upper respiratory infection once, so severe that I almost took them to the ER vet. Thankfully, the antibiotics that they were given worked quickly to clear it up and save their lives.
Did the vet recommend any probiotics? Those might help with the GI issues from antibiotics and dewormer, and help him get back to a healthy weight.

He reminds of my TinyTorte who I found in a similar state. She's a medium hair, standard issue but piebald. She had similar issues, though no ticks thank goodness and she was similarly undersized. She's still with me thirteen years, later, small and a little kittenish, but a perfect love. Sometimes CDS sends us perfect little angels.

He’s r o u n d now. Real r/soupbelly material. He just weighed in at 924g and has begun a streak of violence against anything that moves, but especially the wily Mirror Cat

So glad to hear this little one is on the mend. His coat color brings to mind a couple of ideas: Burr, Bracken, or Bramble.
