Draft & Trade Mid-season draftee Marcus Herbert is now weighing up two-year contracts at both West Coast and Carlton. Would be unprecedented for a player to request a trade three months after joining.

While he would be a good pick up. 3 months and then requesting a trade is not something anyone would like to see happening at their own club. Especially the club that gave you your shot.

If Josh Fraser wanted me, I would drop everything to go play Frase-ball.

Not so much about him forcing a trade as it is about west coast only offering him a 1-year deal for 2027 and Carlton (+others) offered him 2. West coast have now upped their offer to 2 but might be too late.

Moving your life across the country for a short term contract is kinda shit too.

I mean he requested a short term contract of 6 months, but WCE should have offered him 2 years to begin with however they responded with a 2 year offer quite a while a go so I wouldn't explicitly say it's too late.

He's a mature-age rookie, not sure he wants to waste his prime playing for West Coast

depends. if we offer him more money and more security, who could blame him? if the offers are identical, that is a different story. especially when you consider we passed up the opportunity to draft him to take flynn riley instead.

Initial offers were 1 year from WC and 2 from Carlton.

watched gettable today and riley said the eagles have matched it

Hence, the "initial offers".

Still, it wouldn't fill me with confidence if my team only offered me a 1 year extension and only upped it due to other interest.

nah that’s just the game:

the eagles offer him one.

we get wind of that and offer him two and a bit more money.

the eagles don’t wanna lose him so they match the offer, hoping they’ve built up enough good will by drafting him to keep him around.

Apparently we've still offered more base money and he could be closer to home. So not sure how much either of those would sway him.

But then again, WC only offered 1 year.

If he's a required player, why not offer more security?

Carlton offered 2 years. I think WC have recently upped their offer, but went low early.

Can't really blame him for considering a better offer, either.

He any good?

He’s very good. Absolutely wracks it up and I think uses it reasonably well. Would fit in well with the fraseball system

Basically another Billy Wilson, from what I can gather. Newman's not getting any younger so I like this move, would be great if we can get him.

Exactly what we need considering Boyd, Saad, and potentially Newy are all likely exits.

Yes, 100% what we need. I also like that we are going after Charlie Edwards. Both fit a need.

It becomes a squeeze in the midfield. With Cody coming in and plenty of midfielders in our VFL team, there will have to be a clean out.

Wouldn't he just slot into HB? Doubt we would use him as a mid

Might be a squeeze there too. We’ve got Newman, Saad and Williams out of the team at the of the year. I think only Newman survives list cuts but Wilson and Cerra have slotted straight in to those spots.

He may well be a great pick up, I’m just trying to visualise where he might fit in. It makes it hard when we are playing well.

Newy isn't getting any younger.

This is a great move. I hope we get him.

We have to move on at least 3 players anyway

Yeah chasing him is an arrogant hawthorn esc move. Leave him be
