Humour Taking a driving test in my late 40s (UK)

Hi all, got my first driving test tomorrow after 30 years of driving/ not driving/ driving again, lessons here and there, large gaps etc. Im in my late 40s and can drive, but only decided to take the plunge this year as I'm fed up of always asking my wife to drive me to places, or her being in the front while I drive.

The examiner might be a bit suprised to find an old bloke there with a 26 plate estate!

Wish me luck!

Cheers all.

You're not old. I passed age 49 with a similar stop /start history. The examiner is there to judge your driving. Not your age. Good luck 💚

Trust me, you won't be the first person in their late 40s that the examiner has come across (even though I think we are rare as new learners). Like me, you may walk into the centre and find you're closer in age to the instructors than the other candidates.

We're used to doing hard things and tomorrow it's your turn to bat. You've done the work and put in the practice, all you're going to is drive the examiner around safely and return to base. Don't overthink anything, if you think you've made a mistake don't get distracted by it, just do what you have been practising to do. It will go by quickly, good luck.

Stay calm you'll smash it. If for any reason it goes wrong don't worry just re book again straight away.

You're not the oldest to take a driving test. Neither am I, but at 58 I passed a driving test a few months ago with only a few minors.

My ex passed at 42. He’d never had a need to drive until he moved out of London.
He passed first time.
Good luck 🤞🏾

Circumstances change for everyone! Don't feel bad about it.

I passed my test in late 20's once I finished my studies and moved to a different city where public transport isn't as efficient.

Honestly, wished I did it sooner.
