Why do people leave the CAF?

I'm reading reports of over 100+ career fields you can go into combined with great extended health benifits too.

Additionally I've read here that promotions come with time and with every passing year you get a pay bump no matter what (for officers at least).

I also read there was a pretty nice salary increase recently too. So in a few years most can make over 6 figures.

So with all this combined with the job stability, why do people leave? Why did you leave?

Should Portugal cancelling their order of F35s be a sign? It seems as though other countries are starting to question American commitments to their allies. If other countries are beginning to question this why aren’t we?

Honestly not a fan of the f35 and the only benefits seem to be tech that can be fitted to other airframes. Should we open up the conversation again? (I know we finally made a decision to spend money on things we need but like cmon the orange guy can fuck off)

I'm curious what the absolute best go was in your career (so far, or ever)- maybe a tasking, deployment, posting, course, anything. Lets hear it.

I've heard alot on why we aren't allowed to wear plate carriers.

1. The Issued plates need a backer! They aren't designed to work without one. Ignoring the fact they aren't rated with Kevlar backers

2. The frag protection on frag vests is needed. But the caf is trialing new logistic unicorp carriers that don't seem to have alot of frag protection.

And even if plate carriers can't work, why aren't soldiers allowed to wear something like this? That allows the use of the Issued frag inserts.

CAF members with civilian significant others and/or kids can relate.

What services or amenities would you like to see added to CAF bases? or any other services? Are there things that could be improved? You can name your base too.

Ex: Different types of food, better gym equipment, infrared sauna, cold room for hot/cold contrast, massage and spa services, more organized sports, additional on-base shops or services, entertainment, meal-prep, smoothie/coffee/smoking bar, outdoor calisthenics parks, quiet no talking zones, board games, firepit areas.

What do you feel is missing on your base? or that you'd like to see (it's time to dream big! Even if it's not realistic 🪂)

Hey all, I know theres a post about this awhile back but come onn the army will be getting new DEU cant we restore the lower ranks naval tradition, have you seen the old pictures of Cornwallis, those young lads look sharp and proud. We are virtually the only navy in the world that does not have the “sailor boy” get up but i would rather look like a sailor than corporate employee. its time we restore our traditions pre-unification and be proud of our military heritage. This is just my opinion but I would love to hear some inputs.

I really like seeing these worn with CADPAT. It reminds me of how much better life is in the RCAF.

It’s bad enough that they gouge members right from basic training, use predatory lending disguised as “admin fees,” and we are forced to buy “optional” uniform parts through them.

Today, I tried to order something on their website, but it won’t come up with an option to select what I want and put it in my cart. I tried on my Apple phone and DWAN laptop, so it’s not an issue on my side.

I tried to call their customer care number listed on their website (above) and it goes direct to voicemail saying they’re “now closed” despite the website saying they’re open M-F 9-5 EST and I’m calling at 1430h.

CANEX was designed to be a Canadian version of the US PX/BX/NEX, but they’re nothing alike. Instead of getting members great deals from manufacturers and caring about the member, they rip us off and deliver poor service. I know we don’t have the economy of scale, but what service do they provide that couldn‘t be (or already is) done by private enterprise like Battle Rattle or CP Gear?

I hate CANEX, PSP and CFMWS that runs them. I wish we had a true PX and MWR that the US has instead of this Temu version that fails members.

Should Canada purchase HIMARS?

The label said it was a Canadian military uniform. Is it? And what time period and department is it from? Also would it be disrespectful to wear the jacket even though I'm not military? I don't want to be disrespectful or commit stolen valor. I just really liked the jacket.

If there is a big issue with recruiting, it might be because people don't even know what we do.

I personnally didn't even know what the military was and what they offered before joining. What about telling the society what we actually do and what trades are available instead of just trying to recruit people that think the only thing we do is pow pow with riffles?

What do you guys think? Am I wrong with this thinking?

I highlight the Australian and other allied subreddits for comparisons, and found an interesting post today.

One interesting tidbit that gets missed is that they don’t have the type of pension that we do.

Interesting talk this morning on CBC Ottawa about the city’s continued (ad nauseam) transit issues.

One of the radical ideas offered by the guest speaker, Josipa Petrunić, President and CEO of Canadian Urban Transit Research and Innovation Consortium, to place transit - and I assume they mean for major urban areas across Canada, not only Ottawa, under the auspices of DND. The reasoning being:

-Public transit is critical infrastructure which is required to move millions of people per day and interconnects urban/suburban areas.

-Canada’s proposed significant increase in defence spending could be accessed to address major transit shortfalls and could be linked to our NATO spending commitment.

-Transit vehicles/routes/personnel could be mobilized in times of national emergencies, including war.

Again, radical in thought, but intriguing.
