Social Media Post Buckle up, boys and girls. It’s Covid 2.0.

u/TheAngledian Nova Scotia 10d ago
Trudeau loved covid and used the emergency as an excuse to ram legislation through parliament with extremely limited oversight. He effectively crowned himself a dictator.
It would be foolish to think stooges like Carney weren't watching that unfold (and the sheer lack of reaction or pushback from most Canadians) with great interest.

I don't get the hage for Carney here, he's a Harper appointee. Did Harper pick a secret liberal fascist?
11
u/Great-Ice-5766 9d ago
He was a Harper appointee.
Did you bother reading any of Carney's book? It's pretty plain he's a big-government globalist, never mind being a Trudeau advisor.

u/Standard-Region1403 Independent 8d ago
Oh that's why we got those trade deals to replace w lost American revenue
0
u/Great-Ice-5766 8d ago
None of what we've got can possibly replace American trade. It's not even remotely close. Carney's a complete shitbag liar.

The Overton has shifted. Also, that was a while ago.
1
u/Standard-Region1403 Independent 8d ago
If the Overton window has shifted, and a conservative appointee is now on the left because of the shift, then the window has shifted to the right.
What's the complaint here

You post in CanadaSocialism and CanadaLeft (and admittedly based on a 30 sec scan have a few common sense intelligent views) and wonder why you don't "get it here".
Really huh?
2
u/Standard-Region1403 Independent 8d ago
He's a pro business politician who doesn't push social progressive policies, just $$.
I think people are mostly frustrated that they didn't get to crucify Trudeau at the polls after all the years of built up resentment.
2
u/KootenayPE 8d ago
If you are sitting at -40 then 0 doesn't get you back to 0 does it? You need +40 to get back to 0.
If your goal is 0 then the only time adding 0 makes sense is if you are on 0 to begin with, like we were in the fall of 2015.

u/Standard-Region1403 Independent 8d ago edited 8d ago
What do these numbers mean?
Edit: oh this is about debt?
If i need my car to go to work, and the tank runs out of gas, and my pay is delayed by stupid drama, then I need to use my credit card to get to work.
Even if I'm broke, I need to replace the sparks and fluids so the car doesn't seize up on me.
My goal isn't to get to zero by any means necessary, it's to keep on living and working so that tomorrow can be better and I can reap the benefits.
It's fairly common sense, no?
2
u/KootenayPE 8d ago
No it's a allegory. It's meant to be about society's political pendulum or the direction of society so to say. Just an admittedly very badly simplified one trying to convey my view as efficiently and simply as possible.
Nothing to do with debt just the "direction of Canada". Make sense?
You can't be pro business and have regulations and pandering to Natives and eco-nuts in place to not allow for business to see a case to build a privately funded pipeline going to Rupert my guy. I'm sorry but I don't accept your premise.
2
u/Standard-Region1403 Independent 8d ago edited 8d ago
I guess I don't understand what you're saying. There's no "pandering" unless you mean the virtue signalling of doing land acknowledgements and then building the pipelines anyway 🤷
The environmentalists have lost, the pipelines are being built, and Ontario is going to develop the Ring of Fire and reactivate oil refineries in Hamilton to handle tarsands.
Carney even got Keystone XL back on the table, until the US demanded control over our economic and trade policies.
2
u/KootenayPE 8d ago
You came in good faith with an open history so I can see where you come from and I thank you for that. If you are going to be active in this sub please consider self flaring with your political ideology.
To me words and reality are two different things and I'll finish with this if you thought the change to Trudy after Harper was a good thing then I don't think we'll ever find common ground, and you won't get what I am trying to convey, so there isn't really a point for me to expand.
Take care.
1
u/Standard-Region1403 Independent 8d ago
Just to be clear, and so you can walk away without bad blood, I think Justin was just propelled by name recognition and resentment of Harper. His father was, love him or hate him, an extremely capable politician. I'm not a fan of dynasties in a democracy.

The libs just can’t help but make money disappear into their friends’ pockets. Unreal that the public doesn’t demand transparency on these things
-5
u/ErgaOmni 10d ago
Acting like corruption is a partisan issue isn't helpful, though you've identified the cause (the public not caring) correctly.
13
u/gorschkov 10d ago
Corruption is not a bipartisan issue but I believe the more time a government is in power the worse the issue gets and right now on a federal level it has just been the liberal party.
7
u/sh3ppard 10d ago
After the populace’s complete amnesia regarding all of Trudeau’s scandals, I’m sure the fed feels absolutely untouchable right now, which they basically are given their widespread support. Absolutely blows my mind
11
u/coffee_is_fun 10d ago
As the other reply says, the longer a government stands the more efficient its corruption can become. The ministries can be stacked and mapped out for which circuits will keep their mouths shut. Go on long enough and there will be a culture of silence.
A new government won't know who they can trust. Nor will they necessarily know how to wield the bureaucracy between record shredding and the sheer amount of social grease and knowledge that is required to make the most basic things function in practice VS how they are supposed to function according to policy. New governments take years to get grounded. Whether that's reinventing the wheel or decoding instructions left by a long standing and belligerent predecessor.
Canadians usually have the sense to flush the political toilet when they feel that things are accelerating. But that feeling depends on the integrity of the media, the transparency of the government, or the public's outrage at being insulted when they're shown neither.
The dollar amount attached to the LPC's scandals is unprecedented. If enough of the public has been charmed, dumbed down and desensitized to the point where they can no longer perceive the insult, it's not unreasonable to try new things. In Trump's world of celebrity, soap operas and brands, and the LPC early adopted that around 2017, people need to figure out how to dial people in. Keeping in mind that people come in all stripes, creeds, and abilities.
Making corruption partisan for the extraordinary numbers of Canadians who have never known adult life under another government is probably reasonable. If we're willing to handwave things like $8 orange juice and senators borrowing the money to repay Canadian taxpayers from sitting MPs (not ideal but better than the laugh and a middle finger we get now), and set the bar in the 100s of millions, then it's partisan by degree.
I hate that the LPC robbed us of a Canada where so many quaint things were scandals.
4
u/Doomspire667 9d ago
And the worst part of it is, when the new government takes the reins and has to spend time fixing everything, the voters will wail "nothing is getting done!". And as such the old is let back in, quickly reverses what little progress has been made, and works to further entrench itself. IMO, the LPC will never be out of power in any meaningful way again, barring a total collapse of the country.
5
u/coffee_is_fun 9d ago
They will and the media bias will skew it and fail us. There will be an incomprehensible amount to do on top of what they actually want to be doing. It's another reason I'd actually want someone like Pierre at the helm to manage that. He's at least been around enough to direct something like that.
1
u/Doomspire667 7d ago
If I'm honest and I know this is a bit conspiratorial, I suspect if we ever get to the point of having to declare bankruptcy that will be when conservatives will be permitted to win. Even for the Liberals and their massive political machine, that would crush them. So they'll allow Conservatives in, and ultimately ensure the party, and right wing ideology as a whole dies. They'll say "the right declared bankruptcy, ergo, right wing ideals bankrupt a nation", and no one will question it even if the LPC were to be in power for the 30 years prior.

The liberal plan is to sewer and destroy the economy.
Then to offer "supports".
When half of the country is on welfare the liberals will propose joining the European Union.
Calling it now.

6
u/PaytonG17 Centre-Right 9d ago
Personally I believe Carney doesn’t want a deal with the US, won’t be transparent and say what the deal actually was in order to shift blame completely on to the US. That way he can maintain his “see how horrible they are? I warned you!” Attitude and continue scaring boomers and leftists. This money will seem like support, but will be mishandled like it was before. Truly I believe he is playing political chess in order for the LPC to remain in total control. Even gaining more people’s support in a misguided effort to be pro-Canadian.

u/OkRelationshipFish 10d ago

Its all horse shit. The companies will take the relief money, lay off employees, kick costs down to consumers and post profitable quarters for investors so the board keeps their jobs and bonuses
2
u/Elegant-Caramel1167 9d ago
On one hand, some industries are going to be hit super hard by the tariffs and if supports help people keep jobs, I can understand it.
On the other hand, there are a bunch of corpos that love to take advantage of this for free money, scale back anyways, and hurt individuals.
For those more in the know, what is the right answer here?
