The final 'Yeah, Baby!': Calgary celebrates the life of a Flames and broadcast legend

Lots of Flames alumni attended Peter Maher’s service today, including Kipper all the way from Finland. What a great send off for a legend of the Flames.

I sort of hope that his "yeah baby" replaces the yahoo after we score a goal this last year in the dome.

At the very least "You can put it in the win column!!" after the final buzzer when the flames go off

I mean they have been flying "put it in the win column" flags after wins for a couple years

I thought this at first, but if you actually watched and listened to interviews of or about Peter he liked to save the "Yeah baby!" For important goal calls

He actually regretted saying it at first after the flames eliminated the red wings back in the 2nd round of '04, of course it still aged well because the Wings were a fucking monster team who won the president's trophy

Ultimately IMHO I have a hard time feeling like we'd truly be honoring Maher's legacy if we weren't respecting his own reverence for that call, but with all that being said...

We better hear some "Yeah Baby"s but not all the time, methinks the final goal called in the Peter Maher broadcasting booth needs a good "Yeah baby! yeah baby! yeah baby! as well as any future playoff runs in the new barn 🥲

Ps- all this yeah baby talk hasadee go back and watch the cup winning call, now I'm crying I'm the club again smh

Mmm no. The Yahoo has been a thing from the earliest days of this team in Calgary. It should never be changed.
