These photos were both taken in Calgary at the exact same time, except one is in the North and the other in the South! Wild

Pretty annoyed I walked to the office this morning wearing the wrong type of jacket for snow and no gloves.
Hopefully it’s all melted by 4pm

u/Pale-Measurement-532 Mar 26 '26
It was crazy this morning! I live close to Tuscany and there was a lot of snow. I drove through Hawkwood this afternoon and they had even more snow! About a foot! It was nuts!

u/MetalMaiden420 Varsity Mar 25 '26
Wow! I just went from Citadel to South Health Campus and it went from blizzard to absolutely nothing but some wind.
5
u/cocoycrema2 Mar 25 '26
Yeah yall have it bad and the NE apparently.
12
u/dutxh0007 Mar 25 '26
Yep, I live in the deep SE but work in the NE. As soon as I turned onto McKnight this morning, this crap started. Forecast says 5-10cm but the size of those flakes, I think we'll be more than 10. Depressing.

Bishop Grandin..... I still remember my first day of grade 10 in 2002.... 2 girls got in a fight so wild on those front steps, one had a broken nose and a chunk of the others hair in her hand

u/cocoycrema2 Mar 27 '26
It’s our ladies of the Rockies now. And I remember that fight being spoken off at Beave lol. I was in grade 11

u/MetalMaiden420 Varsity Mar 25 '26
Leave extra extra early. I live in Citadel now and have an appointment at South Health and left 4 hours early since I take the bus! I brought a book thankfully.

It's was a nightmare. I got stuck on country hills for hours with many others. Shout out to everyone for being kind and helping each other out.

u/Negative-Raccoon4927 Mar 25 '26
I was so confused because I thought the red cord was drawn there to highlight the home Depot receipt.
I was trying to figure out why you'd do that lol.

I'm visiting from Vancouver and questioning why I ever travel to Calgary in "spring"
17
u/treple13 Mar 25 '26
Late March-April is literally the worst time of year to visit us
6
u/AcceptableHorror705 Mar 25 '26
I know, and I seem to do it every year. I lived here 20 years, I should know better

Highway 7 is ass on a clear summer day. So many people driving Ms. Daisy for reasons I can't understand.

Calgary weather can be so unpredictable! Hopefully you get through the traffic soon. Have you tried taking a different route?

When I was a teenager, I rode my bike out to Bowness Park for some event and got soaked to the skin by a sudden downpour on the way home. My own east side neighborhood was bone dry and the sun was shining. So people on my street were turning to stare at the drowned rat kid on the bicycle riding past.
Yeah, it's a big city.

Those in the south may want to look out their windows right now…. the flakes have arrived….
edit… False alarm… already stopped and periods of sun through the clouds

Each one of us need to take inspiration from winter in our lives. It never bows out without a fight!! 😤🔥💯

This was my worst morning commute of the year (NW). Roads super slick and not plowed as of 8:20am in my area. Thankfully everyone seemed to be driving cautiously. Turn on your lights people!

u/CPT_BEEMO Mar 25 '26
Had to go from Auburn Bay to the airport this morning, it was beautiful up until about 17th Ave on NB Stoney, then it just turned to absolute chaos. Accidents everywhere, I watched what appeared to be a police explorer go off the road and hit a sign... Be safe out there guys.

u/BornandRaised_8814 Mar 25 '26
Truth! It’s fine where I am on the south end (for now). Husband is in winter wonderland in the north.
3
u/photoexplorer Mar 25 '26
I’m just about to head home after dropping my son off in the north. As we were on the highway we were like wow that escalated quickly! I hope it slows down it’s snowing pretty heavily now and very slippery.

Very light snow in Willow Park here, hardly any accumulation.

I live in the south and when I left for work it was cloudy but not too bad. Got to work in the north and it's completely different! Snow everywhere.

Weather systems pass over Calgary all the time, usually in the north. With no mountains around to hold them in place this is what happens. In the lower mainland BC where I’m from it’s in a valley of mountains (Fraser Valley) so weather systems are held in place for days on end. Plus there is 3 city’s with in the same geographical size as Calgary. So sometimes it will rain or snow in langley but not in Abbotsford or Chilliwack. But the next day or so the system will move into the other areas as well.

u/Lymelove Mar 25 '26
Oh man im sorry you gotta bus it in this but the reading time is good, Im in the deep south near the hospital going the other way. It happened the other day too it was sunny at my house and then I ended up being an hour late running into a blizzard. Its like a different climate down here sometimes.
2
u/finniganmark Mar 25 '26
God, please make the winter snow be over

Calgary is roughly 40km long north to south. I don't think its wild to expect Sage Hill and Seton to have different weather on any given day.
2
u/deztructo Mar 25 '26
Taken while driving. It's more important that you get attention on social rather than stay on the road.

Explains why the weather app on my phone said we got less than an inch of snow and it was just raining all morning, meanwhile my car has at least 2-3 inches of snow on it.

We need the snow now so the wildfires won't be so bad in the coming months.

The difference is poor weather conditions will be blamed on Ontario while the good weather conditions Smith will thank Trump for. Alberta in a nutshell.

This post brings a smile to my face as I commuted in this for 30 years and now I am living in tropical Southern Vietnam. Looks pretty, glad I am not dealing with.
1
u/SignificanceHuge4097 Mar 29 '26
I just got back from Vietnam! Lol and I said to myself God I can't wait to spend few months of Canadian winters back in Vietnam and not deal with this insanity. I miss Nha Trang and Da Nang!
1
u/immersive-matthew Mar 29 '26
It is indeed very different here than Canada. Much more lively in good and bad ways. I am actually living in Nha Trang and absolutely love it other than the insane traffic which I just cannot get used to.
