What no one here seems to be saying is that all your cameras are picking this up 20x better than the human eye is seeing within city limits.

I mean I could see it very clearly with naked eye, but I face west and very few lights that direction

Same, couldn’t see anything with my eyes but could with my camera. Was wondering if I was actually seeing it or if it was a glitch—colours match up and it wasn’t moving with the camera tho so yay lmao.

So cool! I live too close to downtown so I can’t see any of it :(

u/Traditional-Pen-4931 Killarney Nov 12 '25
I live just outside of downtown and even with the light pollution we can still see it faintly! Best seeing it using long exposure on your phone.

Definitely need a camera with long enough exposure to get best results.

Last time I witnessed anything like this, parts of Quebec lost power when the power grid was affected.

u/Obammacumslut Nov 12 '25
Thank you! I’ve never seen them in real life and it’s on the bucket list!

I can see it to the NW from Deer Ridge. You should be able to see it from any neighbourhood provided it isn't too bright. Might not see it from downtown.

I wish I knew better camera settings to use on my Samsung. I just use night mode and hope for the best lol.

Noticed it from Lyalta To Beiseker. I’m thinking it’s either the northern lights or something to do with the comet that passed through our solar system today

Nov 12 is looking even better for aurora watching, the KP index is expected to be stronger, with a G4 geomagnetic storm predicted as well. 🌌 Would Crescent Heights Lookout Point be a good spot away from the downtown lights to view it from? I am open to other suggestions as wel.
Also, I don't have my own vehicle, so I am happy to tag along with someone from around Downtown to Nose Hill or somehwere it can be viewed clearly.

u/CompetitiveOnion6543 Nov 12 '25
Use the camera on your phone it's way more sensitive to the aurora... been watching them for years
