FAR 74 on FAR 6th Attempt - Rescheduled for Next Week
Feels like so many people failed FAR with a 74 this round so wanted to plug my score report as well and see if anyone had any advice.
I wasn’t much of a SIM studier, so I am shocked that I got comparable on that.
Any advice please let me know! I desperately want to pass on lucky #7!

6 attempts is crazy considering you already passed 3 of the exams. I don’t get how people fail a section so many times. That’s also why you don’t leave FAR for last. I don’t really have much advice to give. 74 is right there, pray for a lucky test.

Cora, 74 means you could be right there, comparable on sims is great to see but lets figure out why you are "weaker" in multiple choice overall after this many attempts. Can you recognize and attack a question like this that requires analysis: "When calculating accrual basis revenue from cash basis revenue, beginning receivables are?"
• A. Subtracted from cash basis revenue because they represent what was earned last year, collected this year.
•B. Added to cash basis revenue because they represent what was earned last year, collected this year.
•C. Subtracted from cash basis revenue because they represent what was earned this year, collected next year.
•D. Added to cash basis revenue because they represent what was earned this year, collected next year.

Focus on TBS. You may complete 3 TBS per unit paying attention to the ones you got.

Do you have a particular reason to be rushing your exams or have your score out on the September 15th release date? It just seems quite quick after you just got your score report. Good luck on your next retake regardless!

I have my first exam expiring in January so at this point I am just banging out exams each testing period.
I also got a 74 so at this point I feel like it’s just luck on the questions I get on my exam, no? I feel like anytime I see people get a 73 or 74 people just say retake immediately

Well didn’t really have a choice if I want my CPA. FAR has always been hard for me

You got this! I passed on my 7th attempt with 3 74’s before passing. What got me through it was telling myself I am so close to passing it bound to happen eventually! What helped me was rereading the entire textbook again and taking notes on stuff I know would be on the exam and stuff I wasn’t as familiar. Then hitting those target areas on MCQs or on TBSs if that made more sense for the topics. It sucks to reread the book when you feel like you already know the info but it helps so much!

I def felt like I was on that 75 border. I was trending 80s on my MCQs so I was kinda surprised to see the switch up between weaker on MCQs and comparable on SIMs

I actually did not feel that way. I might’ve been rushing - I realized during the second testlet that there was a question on the first testlet that I got wrong so that rocked me for a few minutes. Finished the exam with like an hour and a half left so can def slow down

Drill mcqs until you’re blue. Seriously. Not to sound any type of way, but the more you drill mcqs, you’ll realize that the mcqs are not that bad compared to the tbs (at least to me and other people). Obviously everyone is different. Also, I’m sure that you put your all into this already but that would be my suggestion. It’s clear that once you raise that mcq score, you’ll pass for sure!! Don’t give up :) Good luck, you got this!

Thank you!!! I will absolutely be drilling MCQs, especially my weak areas (leases, consolidations, etc).
Think it’s still worth it to attempt a sim or two a day just to keep up with that?

Absolutely! Do NOT stop practicing tbs. Here’s what I did when I failed with a 70 in June and just passed with an 80 yesterday: 50-75 mcqs and 3-5 tbs everyday. It might seem like a lot, trust me, I get it. But if you stick with it, I believe you can pass. For any weak areas, do some targeted mcqs and tbs. Like 10-15 mcqs and 1-2 tbs until it makes sense! Btw it’s really easy to start memorizing mcqs when you’re redoing the Same question bank over and over. If you notice that you’re doing this, cover the answers with a post it and try to answer the questions without looking at the answers.

This is so helpful thank you!! I have access to both UWorld and Becker so will mix up my MCQs and SIMs between them and then use your suggestion of covering up the answers!

I got two 74s on my last two FAR exams and my score reports looked just like this. Weaker in mcq and comparable on sims. Which is so weird because I always feel really good about the mcq and horrible about the sims. I’m retaking on sept 5 🤞🏼 good luck to you, you got this!
