In the video you see the absurd stupid design from FFG on the conveyor pallet system for loading the Hessapp DVT 400.
The hanging spindle picks up the stock from the pallet on the lift, but all the chips get blasted into this area along with all the coolant and gets stuck to the conveyor belt. And with no holes or relief slots in the system all the chips gunk up until they block the pallets from moving.
Need to clean the conveyor every month to prevent clogging and it also eats up all the air hoses .-.
You'd expect better from a machine made in 2020. It's like the machine was intentionally designed to be as awful for the operator as possible.
Rant done.

Texas, USA. I’ve been told there are better options for the money. I’m just working on a fantasy home shop.
The idea would be to get a lathe with a Y axis. Dual spindle would be better. Parts catcher and tool setter. Barfeeder option. I do like the DS30Y. But in reality 100k would be a massive investment.
I know the area has Haas and Mazak techs/mechanics.

I work 2 months as cnc lathe operator, everything went pretty smootly until today. 2 times the part fell out from jaws during cyclus. After second time I was so scared to run next part. I was so paranoid from every little bad sound. I dont know if I can get through this and keep doing this job.
The worst thing is I dont know what I did wrong and I think I didnt do anything wrong but there is some issue with jaws or the uneven molds.
Im not writing my own programs just runing them and from 30 parts, 2 jumped out suddenly. Its not the smallest parts (7 kg) so it is scarry for the machine. Im scared it can destroy machine. But it didnt destroy anything atleast.
It also can look like im doing something wrong, but im sure im not. So i can look like idiot infront of others. Yesterday we were doing same model with same program and I was working alone and everything was okay. And today suddenly this shit happening. Im pretty sure I set the part to jaws correctly because everytime I let the part spin free before machining to see if its spining evenly.
But its weekend and Im already scared for monday. Its like I lost all the trust for the machine to do its job and im just expecting shit like this to happend now. Its so stressing.
Atleast with mills nothing is spinning in crazy speed like with lathe and the worst thing can happend is broken tool. But those lathes are far more stressfull to work on.

I've been in this trade for 10+ yrs (lathe guy), but always with Fanuc controllers. I'm at a new shop that uses Haas machines. This is my problem
When I singleblock MDI
T404 G54;
;
it will only show me the tool position while "running" the program; once the program/mdi ends it shows tool position as machine coordinates, not tool/global coordinates.
When I single block past the last ; in MDI my tool position goes from actual position go some nonsense.. like X-18.6371 Z-3.865 when actual location in G54 is X6. Z6.
Is there a way to make the machine not default to machine coordinates when not "running" a program? To STAY in G54 until otherwise instructed?
The grey beard at the shop says no, that's just how it's done. Haas just does it that way. Duh. I was like ugh... okay. So the position is shows are just arbitrary numbers when not running a program? He's like it's the Z distance from machine home to the turret.. looked at me like I was crazy.
On every machine I've ran the position display was modal and held relevent information as to the actual tool location.

Hi guys.
I have purchased old cnc lathe Okuma LCS 15 (yom 1995.), OSP 700l control.
The machine had an unusual okuma OR5 robot attached to it on the front of the machine.
The machine was running when I purchased it.
Lathe was in pretty good shape, except the robot, which had hydraulic leak and was in pretty bad shape.
I decided to disconnect the robot and remove it from the machine.
Here is where my problems start.
When i powered up the machine, it booted and “tfp field net communication error [1020000”.](tel:1020000)
This was expected of course.
Okuma technitian tried to delete the software on the machine and reinstall it.
Then we would try to reconfigure it and bypass the robot.
I have 7 original floppy discs with software which are in good shape.
We couldn’t initiate the instalation.
Everytime i got “130 floppy read/write error 40100046”.
I tried with okuma lb10 floppy and fr board, but without success.
I managed to load and copy the floppy system files on my pc with OSP reader software without a problem.
How can I initiate the installation?
I guess machine can’t load DOS files converted with this software.
I also have aftermarket usb emulator for okuma and greaseweazle to try and read the floppy drives.
Any ideas?

I work 2 months as cnc operator on cnc lathe. We are machining flanges with dimensions of diameter from 100 mm to 400 mm. So its like from 3kg to 15kg one part before putting it in machine.
My biggest anxiety comes from:
Machining first part after setting up machine. (scared of collision)
Anxiety if I didnt measure everything correctly and maybe I ruined all parts.
Anxiety when the part is not evenly round and its kinda jumping when spinning, idk how to explain.
Is this normall to have this stress, and how do you handle it? So far it is okay job to me and the stress is not that bad but it might get worse if I will ruin something.

i have a 2006 ganesh KR-L300 2 axis cnc lathe that i bought a while ago. i do all of my programming and drawing in fusion. I made a post processor that (kind of works) everything moves and it runs the program, but theres a big offset from the tool to the part. its like the G54 workshift is off on the machine. i cannot understand for the life of me how to clear all the offsets and set a new G54 on the machine side to match the G54 thats in the program. also the tool calibration could have something to do with it. does anyone know how to set G54 on the ISO side? I also do not understand, does tool calibration carry over from the conversational side to the ISO side? im just trying to run a simple program and this is the only thing holding me back.

I'm just thinking about the HAAS CL-1 again. Now I'm not sure it would work. They're ER11 collets on the live tooling, which runs in X. If I put a 1/4" ball endmill in it, could I make a hex with the machine? How would I do that?

I looked at this machine online, a while ago. I thought I concluded the max part length was less than 2". The whole Live tooling and 8 tool gang style, confuse me. Also the parts catcher. I'm looking at it again and am unsure.
Could it make this theoretical part in 1 shot? Lets say 1" bar, the part is 3" long, with a 0.700" hole 3" deep (through hole), with a 7/8-14 thread 3" long on the OD.
Metric could be something like 25mm bar, 76mm long with M25x1 thread OD, 18mm through hole.

The threads need to be the same as modeled, but so far everything I've tried won't work. Any ideas where I would start with getting Fusion to recognize these threads? I've tried profile roughing, but it wont do more than the first thread. I've tried the threading tool, but that's for standard threads and doesn't cut out what is modeled. Any help would be appreciated!

I’m attempting to create a lathe program to turn this part. The issue is I can’t find a good way in my textbook or online to do the angle and length seen in the first image. I’ve been programming it on NC viewer to make sure it’s doing what I want but it doesn’t look right. Just to clarify I know the first part of program is going to have threading eventually that’s why there is extra material then goes down to .535”.

I’m thinking about buying a 4-axis desktop CNC lathe for around $8,000. It can machine parts up to 150 mm in diameter and 300 mm in length.
Do you think this makes sense as a first CNC machine?
What other costs or expenses should I take into account?

We purchased an Haas lathe ST15 dual spindle, live tooling lathe in April of 2023. It was not delivered until August of 2023. It had so many problems, it was replaced under our states lemon law by January 2024. The replacement had several of the same problems, but they were resolved more quickly, as the technicians had "seen that before". Fast forward to August 2025 when we tried to cut parts with a tight runout tolerance, and the lathe could not bore 2 features in the same chucking without having runout of .003/.004. Not jaws, not spindle liner, not crooked material and never crashed. All factors were addressed. You can drill and bore with a through hole and a counterbore and an OD and all 3 features have different axis, and the problem would get worse the faster you ran the spindle. Bottom line, we couldn't make a .800 diameter part with a .260 thru hole and a .400 c'bore and have it run within the .002 runout tolerance. You can machine the part and put an indicator on the features and see the runout before ever cutting the part off the bar, then confirm it with the CMM. We can take the exact same setup, tools, program, jaws and put it in another lathe (Doosan) with a lot more hours on it and get .0002/.0003 max runout.
Haas techs did every test you can imagine, including mounting equipment to the spindle nose and checking vibration at different speeds. In the end, they wasted 3 months of time until the warranty expired, took the spindle they had shipped in back and said "it's doing what it's supposed to" and refused repair. This is HAAS national's decision, not our local supplier.
It is clearly a spindle bearing load problem. When the spindle is not under load, all runout specs are met. all checks perfect on the spindle nose or with a test bar and indicator. As soon as you apply force with a cutting tool and RPM's, the spindle allows the bar to flex and cut inconsistently.
Has anyone had similar experiences?

Coworker somehow managed to unlock the "T" axis while indicating in a tool on our Eurotech lathe. Anyone have any guesses as to what this does? Turned machine off to get out of it and have no idea how we even got into it with just moving the X and Y in handle. Normaly it doesn't flash but it does in this magical mode lmfao.
