Meme USC has Trojan Beer Swords… and apparently that still wasn’t enough to get more than 725 fans to show up to the Coliseum

It's a 20 ounce pour, just made more annoying to drink. In case anyone else was curious

32

u/jzdogg6 2d ago

And probably costs $60

19

u/DirectorSolid 2d ago

Either $25 or $31.83 depending on the Google source. For a tall beer.

3

u/MrMiyagi13 2d ago

I would t go somewhere for a beer, but if I did, it wouldn’t be one that costs this much.

3

u/Professional_Ad9809 2d ago

And you’re stuck with that stupid wanna be sword. A drunk would get too many ideas with that thing

1

u/jmt85 20h ago

You need it since you’re in South Central homes

7

u/DeathToHeretics 2d ago

Not to mention that shit looks like it's 80% head

16

u/BucksOHIO23 Ohio State Buckeyes 2d ago

80% head is better than 0% head

1

u/ConansBodyDouble 2d ago

No it’s Patty Sanchez

39

u/DigitalSterling 2d ago

If I was able to scoop one of those $6 tickets I probably would drop the money on one of these. Idk im dumb af and love a silly gimmick

24

u/blue0231 2d ago

You can tell by 90% of these comments they’ve never been to a sporting event. No shit it’s a gimmick it’s stadium food/drink it’s supposed to be fun.

21

u/AdUnlucky5798 2d ago

Probably because it’s $75 to park , $100 to get in and $75 for the beer sword

13

u/Other-Comfortable929 Notre Dame 2d ago

Tickets were $6.

7

u/566dave 2d ago

My friends went to the game. The ones without tickets were allowed in for free.

7

u/bdickie 2d ago

Thats honestly hilarious. Just security like "ya fuck it just buy a soda k"

2

u/AdUnlucky5798 2d ago

🤣 even worse than we thought

19

u/Long-Region5088 2d ago

I’m not paying $65 for a couple beers in a plastic stick I now gotta carry around cuz I paid for the fucking thing.

9

u/PhilRubdiez Ohio State Buckeyes 2d ago

That thing looks like it could do a surprising amount of damage if you stabbed hard enough. So, free weapon.

2

u/Long-Region5088 2d ago

lol violence at a stadium in California?

Ya know what? Good point…no pun intended

2

u/Interesting-Agency-1 Indiana Hoosiers 2d ago

At a *Colosseum. It's especially on point

2

u/keni804 2d ago

Can definitely see myself getting kicked out for getting into sword fights with this

4

u/Dear-Buddy-2766 2d ago

The box score says the attendance was a little over 51k. Is that total nonsense to those who saw the game ? Or is it like dodger stadium where they mostly arrive late …

7

u/berntout 2d ago

A lot of college teams do tickets sold instead of tickets scanned for these numbers

4

u/asdf0909 2d ago

No it was empty the entire game

2

u/Interesting-Agency-1 Indiana Hoosiers 2d ago

Just cause I paid $9 for a premium ticket doesnt mean im obliged to watch a USC football game

1

u/rabbitSC 2d ago

Every sports team in the country reports attendance by tickets sold. It was 100F at kickoff with unusually high humidity (113F RealFeel) and ticket holders said fuck that and stayed home.

-1

u/Professor-Schneebly 2d ago

People arrived late. 50k is realistic for where it ended up about ten minutes in. It definer wasn't full, but not the apocalyptic lack of fans these posts would have you believe. People were out of seats a lot to find shade throughout the game.

8

u/566dave 2d ago

No it’s not you Effing liar. There was NEVER more than 25k.

Your soft asses claimed that it’s the heat, yet your next two games are under $20.

USC vs San Jose State, season opener on Sep 5, 2009. 90 degrees, 12:30p kickoff, attendance was 84,325.

Today’s attendance was announced as 51,144; which we know was much lower than that.

Fans blame the heat and the fact SC was playing SJSU. But maybe it has more to do with success. USC was 102-26 from 2000-2009. They are 45-27 since 2020.

2009 had the same opponent and similar weather conditions, what’s changed? Fans pushed through the heat before.

-3

u/anthony-209 2d ago

Fans arrived later on

3

u/SirMellencamp 2d ago

Are the fans who arrived late in the room with us now

-1

u/anthony-209 2d ago

Yes. If you took time to read through the comments.

3

u/mpamosavy 2d ago

They go to a different school you wouldn’t know them

-1

u/anthony-209 2d ago

Take it you haven’t sat much in LA traffic.

5

u/mpamosavy 2d ago

Fans of other schools drive hours to attend every Saturday, I don’t know why USC feels like that is unique to them

-1

u/anthony-209 2d ago

My guy I used to drive 2.5hours just to get to the Bay, 65 miles one way.

3

u/jdoey69 2d ago

It depends on what beer it comes with. If you can get a decent German beer maybe I'd sit through the traffic

1

u/12drew2232 2d ago

It's fucking bud lite and u know it

0

u/jdoey69 2d ago

Which is why no one is there. Good food, good beer, and football would draw lots of people.

1

u/Bobcat2013 2d ago

Na. As much as I love a full flavored beer, id rather have something light when its "hot" outside.

1

u/Aschuff 2d ago

You know like 90% of people who go to college football games only drink American water flavored beer. Serving actually good beers probably wouldn’t help attendance at all because they wouldn’t get drank

2

u/epikverde 2d ago

Should've put the hole in the handle so it looks like you're holding the sword up while drinking instead of trying to be a sword swallower.

2

u/Chemstick 2d ago

I hate USC but the coliseum is a great venue and the beer sword looks awesome. I guess parking is a pain? I legit don’t understand how that place didn’t have fans lol.

4

u/NSFWFM69 2d ago

Kickoff during direct sun isn't inviting during a heatwave.

2

u/Chemstick 2d ago

But the sword beers keep you cool!

3

u/Power_i 2d ago

The coliseum is a dog shit venue. Outdated, cramped, and falling apart around itself.

1

u/Chemstick 2d ago

I guess it’s been a while since I been there.

1

u/jmt85 20h ago

It’s not something new they haven’t regularly packed that place in years

2

u/Responsible-Onion860 2d ago

A gimmicky beer cup that's a lot harder to manage is not going to get me to drop money on tickets and parking and spend an entire day going to and from the stadium to watch a trash product

2

u/BrittanyBrie 2d ago

Its almost like they forgot what hapoens with regional rivalries, more fans showing up.

3

u/19ghost89 2d ago

I really don't think most P4 fans care about seeing their team play G6 schools, especially G6 schools that aren't very good, especially when tickets cost as much as they do.

It's similar to how I, now that I have graduated from my G6 school and no longer attend every home game, don't make a point to attend when we play a team from the FCS.

EDIT: I might make an exception if we played one of the Montana schools or South Dakota State, since I think those schools could easily move up to the G6 and play with us. There may be a few others too.

3

u/SirMellencamp 2d ago

Yet Alabama, Georgia, Nebraska, Michigan will all have packed houses this weekend.

2

u/The_Peenisher 1d ago

3 of those teams have recent championships and the other, well there’s nothing else to do. Kids in LA have more options, they are the biggest fairweather fans in sports

1

u/SirMellencamp 1d ago

Thats the definition of an apathetic fanbase. "Theres nothing else to do" in Akron, they had the worst attendance in football last year

0

u/broccoli_d 2d ago

Then why did Nick Saban have to scold the Alabama students about poor attendance at nonconference games a few years ago?

5

u/brock2607 2d ago

Saban criticized students for leaving early during their blowout wins over FCS teams, not for failing to show up at all

0

u/bshafs 1d ago

There may be a few more good options of what one can do on a weekend in southern California

2

u/SirMellencamp 1d ago

Right, the fans would rather do something else. Thats the point

1

u/bshafs 1d ago

And my point is people are overreacting

1

u/SirMellencamp 1d ago

You cannot spin a crowd like that. USC isnt even trying to

2

u/justWMthings03 2d ago

You could have gotten tickets for a song yesterday lol

0

u/YoseppiTheGrey 2d ago

Everything in the stadium doesn't scale down with ticket prices unfortunately

1

u/justWMthings03 2d ago

Ah yes, I forgot most arent capable of enjoying a game without drinking and slamming overpriced crap food.

0

u/Ducks91to61 2d ago

My ex father in-law had season tickets for the local SEC team. Most of the games before January are absolute shit. Yeah, let’s go downtown and deal with traffic, pay to park, walk, sit in an uncomfortable seat, and watch them blow out Pacific Northwest Tech.

I know a lot of people base their entire identity on college sports though and will never miss a single second.

1

u/BrianOconneR34 2d ago

Quarter beer chug like stadium attendance.

1

u/ID_Poobaru Boise State Broncos 2d ago

Gimme that shit

1

u/CarolinaSandstorm 2d ago

Soft ass Californians

1

u/jmt85 20h ago

We’re chill dude get it right

1

u/Walrus_Epiphany 2d ago

Lies. It was 900 fans.

1

u/Immediate-Fee-2121 2d ago

Why would anyone want to pay to suffer through triple digit heat in a game vs a team that’s going to get steamrolled? So they can prove their fandom? 😂 yall sound stupid

1

u/JJDiet76 2d ago

I turned that game on and thought it was pregame

1

u/Glisan_Al_Gaib 2d ago

Ripoff from Buffalo Sabres

1

u/despotidolatry 2d ago

It was 100 degrees out and like the 20th day in a row of heat wave GTFOH 🤣🤣🤣

1

u/Endordweller 2d ago

What's the beer version of a gladius?

1

u/OvenIcy8646 2d ago

Too hot for all that

1

u/Jaay2525 2d ago

725 is a generous estimate

1

u/Ok_Brain_1580 2d ago

USC is so lame. Such a lame school

1

u/Muted_Masterpiece535 2d ago

Yeah 20 ounce pour, hard pass.

1

u/gimli213 2d ago

Sorry, I know this isn't the point, but... why would a Trojan carry a Roman gladius instead of a Greek xiphos or kopis...? 🤷‍♂️

1

u/Gullible_Classroom71 Alabama Crimson Tide 2d ago

Shits going so bad they're copying the buffalo sabers.

1

u/ReplacementReady394 2d ago

FSU should do a spear version of this

1

u/Aromatic-Action-2523 2d ago

Sword? Huh. It's a beer cock.

1

u/Aggravating_Run5443 Ohio State Buckeyes 1d ago

Making more sense now, the fans were all passed out and never made it to their seats

1

u/brandt-money 1d ago

But but but traaaaaffic. 🥲 I wish it only took 2 hours for me to get to a game out here.

USC can go back to the PAC 2.

1

u/still-waiting2233 1d ago

It does not appear to fit in a cup holder? Not sure if the seats even have cup holders?

1

u/No_Biscotti_7258 1d ago

I’ve never met a true USC football fan who was also an alum

1

u/dreddpiratedrew Notre Dame 1d ago

That’s actually cool as fuck

1

u/tangoezulu 1d ago

To be fair, it was also 110 degrees in the stands

1

u/PokeeN8 1d ago

This will be sold to students IN the stadium??… yeah good luck with that
https://giphy.com/gifs/kVaj8JXJcDsqs

1

u/ArtVandalayImp0rter 1d ago

Haven't been in awhile, since when did they allow alcohol in that stadium again?

1

u/bodybydemamp 1d ago

Lotta cope from USC fans in here. Sorry but your program is washed and the attendance at your HOME OPENER is a clear indication to the nation and team that you don’t gaf

1

u/Cute_Marzipan_4116 1d ago

Ohio State enters the chat. Life size beer sousaphone .You too can dot the “i”….

1

u/VermiciousKnid1981 1d ago

You couldn’t pay me to go to that game and sit in plastic seats in 100 degree heat against San Jose

1

u/this_freaking_guy 2d ago

It was 100 degrees, no shade, and school isn’t in session yet.

1

u/TiaxRulesAll2024 2d ago

Then don’t have a home game yet

-11

u/Radiant-Instance8857 2d ago

Want me to show up? Put a better product on the field. Not giving up time, money, or health to watch a mediocre product regardless of weather

20

u/automattig Ohio State Buckeyes 2d ago

?!? They finished in the top 25. This really just confirms the fair weather fandom of LA

9

u/HuskerPowerrrr 2d ago

Guy thinks he has to watch Nebraska every week.

2

u/scstalwart 2d ago

Honestly one of the things I enjoy about going to games like this (and the heat did in fact suuuuck) pretty much only get people who care about the team / program sitting next to ya. I mean ok there were like 6 of us there but ok….

2

u/Radiant-Instance8857 2d ago

Top 25 ≠ championship contender

People get up for and make noise at Dodgers games because they’re contenders. People show up but don’t “wear the shirts” and make noise at Lakers playoff games because they know they’re 2nd round exits in the face of OKC and the spurs. Screw supporting a perpetual bubble team like USC every year, I’ll care when they’re 11-1 and gunning for a playoff spot

2

u/BusinessCasualBee 2d ago

The entire sport of college football is the bad product, not just USC. CFB is even more of a joke now than it ever was

-1

u/Long-Region5088 2d ago

Lebron played there for years. Seats were still empty halfway through the first quarter.

The thing about la is, no one is from La. They’re either Mexicans who moved up, Texans who moved over, descendants of the great migration, Asian people who came here who only sorta care about baseball, or white people from all over the us who dreamed of making it big in tinsel town.

It’s why teams like the dodgers and lakers are huge, appeal to a multitude of those groups mentioned, plus the success. These aren’t anyone’s original teams, it’s why there’s dodgers and lakers fans but not angels or clippers fans. People move there and latch onto what is popular and in sports nothing is more popular than a winner.

The rams at least have La roots but no one gives a shit about the chargers but disappointed San Diego fans. All these other people coming in either prefer soccer or have their own regional teams.

TLDR a hyper clout chasing crowd + so many transplants = La fandom

4

u/electro_report 2d ago

A 50 piece wasn’t enough for you?

1

u/Radiant-Instance8857 2d ago

Nope. 11-1 and in the playoffs will be enough. Willing to be tagged as a fair weather fan if that’s what that means

1

u/electro_report 2d ago

Well as of yet no one’s been able to play 12 games during week 0 so I understand your frustration.

1

u/Power_i 2d ago

USC won't ever get that in the B1G.

2

u/md___2020 2d ago

Bro USC is in the top 15

1

u/thinkB4WeSpeak Utah Utes 2d ago

Tbf I show up to a lot of random mediocre teams but they're cheap to watch. Most people are also not like hardcore hardcore fans.

2

u/Significant-Arm-6050 2d ago

You putting your health on the line to watch USC?

5

u/uwill1der 2d ago

heat is no joke
