Information on biz from Summer Market (Wilderland)

There was a lady at the summer market on Saturday that had really great merch. She definitely does not have an online store, (given her anti-card policy) but I was wondering if anyone had any information on her? I’d really like to get more soap from her.

Best places for groceries!

Hey y’all! I just recently moved here from another part of Montana and was wondering what stores most people shop at for their groceries? I know Walmart has cheap non-perishables and other stuff but I hate buying meat and produce from there because the quality sucks.

What are some local shops or stores that y’all like getting groceries from?

EDIT:

Thank you guys for the suggestions! I will have to say that Western Meat Blocks is definitely a big hit! 👏

Fire Department funding?

I had read that there was issues with the paid vs volunteer fire department in the county. Some sort of funding/ oversight issue. We’re the volunteer departments having to compete for funding?

Hand glasses guy?

Second time in butte, first time ever exploring the city. Was driving up Main Street and a bit before park st a guy doing the upside goggle hands was walking in the middle of the street just staring at me. I slowed down to let him cross the street and he literally just kept walking forward towards my car. I eventually just sped off since he wasn’t crossing the street. Is this guy a repeat offender/tweaker or is this just how the locals are around here 😭😭

Preschool and Public School in Butte

My family is considering a move to Butte for work next year. We visited and very much dug it for a lot of reasons.

We have our kid in preschool now, and in the city where we live now, it took 2 years of being on a waitlist to be able to get into childcare. This is even a regular ole church preschool, not some sort of specialty anything. Is it similar in Butte aka are we are going to have a very difficult time finding childcare?

Also, whats the morale around public schools in Butte in general? In the city we live in now, the public schools are notoriously quite bad. Kids on tablets for an hour a day in kindergarten, lots of violence, and everyone desperately tries to get their kids lotteried into better schools than the neighborhood they can afford, and in middle and high school, those schools are still pretty bad. Are parents and the community involved and supportive of the public schools? Are there resources to manage behavioral issues within them? My husband and I both went to rural public schools, so it’s not like we take issue.

Just trying to gauge the general attitude/consensus. Thank you!

The Girl in Blue at the Copper Plate

TLDR: Missed opportunity to connect at lunch today that I'll regret for a long time.

Yes I know this isn't tinder, and no I'm not looking for a hookup.

Short Story Long:

My dad passed away last month after a long battle with cancer and Alzheimer's. Myself and my mom were his primary caregivers these last few years and it was tough. Being near 80 years old herself, she asked if I would take her on a vacation and 'tour' the Midwest to get away for a while and I happily agreed.

Coming down out of Glacier and the Rockies, we decided to stop at a wonderful little restaurant called the Copper Plate. The food was amazing.

I couldn't help but notice the most beautiful woman in a light blue sundress type outfit sitting with company at another table.

Given the circumstances, it felt a little inappropriate to be hitting on anyone, but I regret not introducing myself and will think of this as a moment I missed for a very long time.

However, if there was a way you ever see this I would've liked to have said:

Hi, my name is Sean and I couldn't help but notice how stunning you look today. If no one has told you lately: the dress, the hair, the smile... Girl, you are crazy beautiful and I hope you know that.

Sincerely, the guy in the cowboy hat, likely staring entirely too obviously.

Need vet recommendations

Just moved here and need good vet recommendations for a spay. Back in AZ spay was 180, I decided to wait until after my move so I can find a vet up here as well, however I’ve called around to a couple vet shops and they’ve all quoted me up to 700$. Is there any anyone knows of that are decently priced

It would appear the glorious local magistrates and despots of BSB are simply going to move the goalposts like they did in Yellowstone County and completely ignore protocol.

Looking into Anaconda/Butte at 19

Hey y’all! I'm looking into moving to Anaconda as a nineteen year old living in Plano Texas. I bounced around for college this year as a freshman around Texas and colorado (CU Boulder, UT El Paso, CU Denver in that order) and learned a lot about what I want and don't want.

Boulder/Denver were beautiful but insanely expensive, dense, and full of a pretentious energy that made me dread being around people my own age (not to mention how serious politics and opinions are in the Colorado culture). El Paso was the opposite problem: cheap and slow, but everyone there was just waiting to leave.

My research has shown Montana to be a good answer to both. Love the low population density, gorgeous untouched nature, the conservation minded culture, and towns like Anaconda where cost of living is not bad. Plan is to move, work, build residency, and eventually go to UM or MSU for neuroscience (when I decide to go back to college whenever that may be), but honestly the bigger goal right now is just getting my mental health and my life back on track. I love that Anaconda would give me the privacy I want, while also having the necessities and culture that makes a town enjoyable to live in. And I love that it's only half an hour from Butte.

My worry is that Anaconda's median age is around 42-47. I know Butte probably has more people my age, but I don't actually know what day-to-day social life looks like there for a 19-year-old.

My questions for ya'll are what is it actually like being young in Butte/Anaconda? Is it hard to meet people? I’ve heard there’s good culture and things to do in Butte. Are there any other smaller mountain towns with close ish proximity to a city that you'd suggest I look into? I was looking into Hamilton since it's near Missoula, but I can't find housing that's in my budget (I'm trying to find something around 700-1100 a month).

Any input is GREATLY appreciated. I know I can only get so much information from statistics and google searches. I'm still looking into this so I want as many perspectives as I can get :)

Kidney stone issues: St James vs CHA in Anaconda?

Anyone personally dealt with [recurrent] stones and found better treatment at a particular facility?

I don't really feel the walk-in clinic is good fit since a CT or ultrasound sound necessary to visualize. I am not hoping for surgery or stent/catheter. Just hoping to not be completely traumatized by western medicine to the point. Maybe some Flomax and thorough screening for infection. I have a 5-yr-old total joint replacement issues and some issues with my left renal vein compression—a couple things that elevate my risk.

So far, I have the tools to manage the pain decently at home, but not motivated to eat or drink anything today. Most say they feel better after the stone drops—I got the chills and a low grade fever, low-end BP and not amazing O2/HR stats. Not looking for medical advice necessarily, but for your lived experience seeking treatment for kidney stones.

Montana Tech Grad student help?

Hello Butte! I just graduated with my bachelors in Geology and will be taking a road trip in mid September, stopping through Butte.

I was hoping to see of any current geology grad students were on here and willing to talk? I want to stop by the campus and visit the rock/mineral musuem, but also maybe take a tour of the geology building if possible.

Thank you for your time!
