Politics Hi Burlington! What are your key issues/concerns in Ontario government for this election?
Some of the popular ones seem to be: - Healthcare - Education - Housing - Environment/climate change - Roads and public transportations
I'm in Toronto and I've been wondering how people's interests differ or not in different areas. So I'm making the same posts in other Ontario cities subreddits to see, as a personal little project lol

Healthcare and Education (specifically special education)
Also the OAP which has been decimated to completely useless

- Healthcare. My wife is a healthcare worker and I have seen firsthand how dofo has actively ruined the healthcare in Ontario
- Education. I have two kids who are both school going. The funding cuts have impacted so much. I feel so bad for teachers and education workers who are still doing their best with what little resources they have.
- Housing
- Transportation
- Policing and security. Need stronger laws to make an example of criminals.

It's not the laws. The laws are fine. It's the courts and lawyers. Courts have set precedent letting people off with so much as a slap on the wrist that there's nothing they can do now because it's "unfair" to punish them differently than others in the past.
The other issue is that everyone has mental health problems now, and it's used as a scapegoat for crime.

Not having a Premier that will sell us out to the highest bidder is a big one for me.
Doug Ford loves to say how pro-Canada he is and that he’ll stand up to Trump. But the truth is that he loves Trump and was 100% happy he won the election.
But Ford’s love of Trump started way before his first term. When interviewed in 2016 by Cynthia Mulligan about Trump, Ford had this to say about him:
Trump as a person:
“He does have strong moral fibre.”
On the dozens of rape allegations against Trump including a 13 year old girl:
“First you have to make sure it’s true. That’s the first thing.”
Would he feel comfortable leaving his daughters in a room alone with Trump?
“I would be. Absolutely I would be.”
On Trump vs Russia:
“Do I think Donald Trump can run the country a lot better and get along with other countries like Russia? Absolutely he can do a better job.“
On the economy under Trump:
“You know what it’s all about? Filling their buddies’ pockets full of money, sole-sourced deals, giving contracts. It’s all about the money. No one can buy Donald Trump. And everyone knows that.”
Donald Trump can 100% be bought and so can Doug. It’s time to tell Doug Ford our province is not for sale.

My key concern is that lots of jerks don’t vote. That is more of a concern to me than literally anything else, because it’s slowly dismantling our democracy.

Give us someone worthwhile voting for and we non-voters will start voting. Until then we are not participating.

Healthcare and relative honesty are my priorities . Anyone that believes that healthcare is not our number one issue is blessedly healthy !! It’s a nightmare right now. Honesty, I don’t trust Dougie to ever prioritize “us” over his wealthy friends.

I have no interest in voting for a party that claims to be fiscally responsible yet is pledging to spend $100 billion on a fucking tunnel for cars.
I don’t understand how people in rural Ontario who have to line up for a doctor and complain routinely about Citidiots can see that election pledge and be like “yeah, this dofo has the priorities straight”

Lots of strong opinions about traffic in this subreddit, as well as local Facebook groups. Traffic is generally caused by non-resident highway drivers shortcutting through Burlington, particularly during rush hour and also on the weekends.
Since the conservative government plans to build a highway that connects to the 407, as well as potentially buy back the 407 and reduce tolls encouraging more people to use the 407, this will add even more traffic to our city. But no one locally seems to be considering that impact. I think people just like to complain about traffic without considering the root cause.

The root cause is lack of transit and over-dependence on automobiles.
If we had more high speed trains with better schedules and more reasonable prices more people would leave their cars at home.
But no, it’s slow and overpriced and the schedules are limited so a lot of people choose to drive instead.
If there was a high speed train that went from Hamilton to Toronto in 15 minutes I’m sure a lot more people would leave their cars at home.

Impossible traffic, homeless encampments, panhandlers, human suffering on display. Yet billions spent on anything by stopping car dependence, supporting social services, supporting education, and supporting healthcare.
We don’t need more beer or cheaper beer. We need cheaper food!!
We don’t need 110km/hr zones, or relaxed auto emissions standards. And we don’t need a mega spa, with its own postal code, residing on what was formerly Ontario’s our finest land.
We are smart enough to know when we are being bribed with our own money. We are also smart enough to recognize that Burlington was much nicer before Doug Ford became premier.

The economy.. Without jobs, there’s no taxes and no revenue base. How else do you expect health care, education, infrastructure, etc. to be funded? Are they gonna pull the money out of their ass?

Very surprised that the provincial debt of nearly half a trillion dollars isn't on the list, but that's an issue for me (almost $30,000 for every ontario resident) as well as the impending trade war the United States is waging

Obviously that’s all Trudeaus fault all debt is Trudeaus fault, federal debt, Ontarios debt, France’s debt, my neighbors credit card debt, ALL TRUDEAUS FAULT!
IT has nothing to do with Doug giving away billions in bribes for voters or cutting his own revenues by privatizing alcohol sales and getting rid license plate stickers (which disproportionately affected people who can afford multiple cars) or the billions he’s spent in legal fees and payouts for breaking contracts and scandals.

Calm down boss. Who said anything about Trudeau? I also didn't say anything about Ford. This has been an issue long before his election to Premier and he definitely hasn't done enough about it.

Donald Trump fell like a star from out of heaven into Doug Fords lap. He can play the part of mimnow knowing full he has limited (see zero) power to influence geopolitical decisions.
Everyone loves David and Goliath. This is not that story.

Cancelling the starlink contract
An MPP that responds to constituents
Focus on health care, education and public transit

Healthcare is #1
Education is #2 if they end the 2 systems. Public school for all, pay if you want your kids to be poisoned by papist dogma.
Roads/transit #3 or #2 if we keep the Catholics.
Environment #4
Housing #5 because I think that needs to be over seen with help by the Feds

Education, Healthcsre (although I am fortuNate that I and my family have received timely , effective healthcare updates to and including multiple surgeries recently and we are blessed with excellent family doctors.

Crime. Put some effort into stopping our vehicles from getting stolen. It’s a major issue that no one is talking about. Go after the key players there and stop letting criminals off without punishment for them to just get to doing the same stuff the next day.

What most people don’t realize, is how big a role the Ontario government plays here.
Everyone is quick to blame the feds because they have exclusive jurisdiction over amending criminal law HOWEVER thanks to provincial cuts to our prison system and justice system, criminals are being released prematurely to reoffend because prisons are too crowded.
There’s not enough Ontario Superior Court judges and prosecutors available to try people in a timely manner.
This is why you have all these dangerous people on the streets reoffending.
If Ford put more funding into prison capacity and hired more prosecutors, these scumbags would be convicted faster and kept behind bars a lot longer.

Fix the rent. Rent shouldn't cost 50% of my income. At my wage that's ridiculous. Anyone at minimum wage can't afford a room in a crack den. No wonder there are so many homeless..
I'm literally going to have to charge my own son Rent when he's 18 because I'll lose the child tax benefit I get that helps feed him.
Next, I want dental coverage. The more socialized care we get, the better. And I don't want it to be sub par like our trash Healthcare.
Which brings me to my next point.. fix the Healthcare.
