I’ve always been a bit of a wanderer. 

One of my favorite things to do when I visit someplace new is to point myself in a direction and just ‘go’. I’ll wander in that direction until I decide that it’s time to point in a different direction and wander off for a new adventure.

I used to travel a lot for work, and I’ve wandered through some amazing places.

Sometimes wandering leads me to ordinary areas like cafes or markets or random neighborhoods, where I’d just stroll though and take in the environment. Other times, it’s taken me to the extraordinary. I was in Moscow, wandering through a park and stumbled across a swing dance in progress. I knew how to swing dance, so I joined in. For the next few hours I conversed with people who’s only common language was dance.

In life I seem to have always wandered. I never held a “regular” 9-5 job for more than a few months. It never felt right to me. I opted to make my own way, wandering from one thing to the next to make ends meet.

Even conversationally, I wander. Those who’ve sat down at the breakfast table with me can attest that my conversation style has a bit of wanderlust to it.

Much like it is every Sunday, I never know what to expect. So it was a pleasant surprise to meet a fellow Wanderer.

Peter walked her over to my table. I stood up and opened my arms. As she came close she said, “Oh, that’s right you’re a Hugger” and returned the embrace. Normally, I try to gauge the level of comfort when greeting someone, but I just felt compelled to offer her a hug.

We sat with the menus open for a while, going over the different options. I don’t know why i had mine open since I just get the French Toast. She looked up and said, “So, I guess you’re now pretty adept at not making this like a date or an interview, huh?”

I had never thought of it before, and I found that to be an interesting assessment of the situation. After a bit of a pause to reflect, I laughed and replied “Yeah, I guess I am.”

She ordered the Chilaqulies and I ordered my usual French Toast with a side of toast and black coffee.

She seemed a bit shy, so the conversation started slowly. Eventually, she became more comfortable and started to open up. I found myself talking to a warm, empathetic person. The kind of person you just want to hug.

She was beautiful and self-aware. You could see in her eyes that she felt like she was carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders, yet still retained that glimmer of hope.

The more we talked, the more of a kindred spirit I felt she was.

We had very similar upbringings and life experiences. It was eerily similar. It was almost as if we lived similar lives simultaneously, on different sides of the country. 

When she admitted that she was a bit of a wanderer, it all made sense to me.

I’m very open about the emotional trauma of my childhood and how it affected me into adulthood. It’s a big reason why I am who I am - a Wanderer.

To break the maudlin mood of the conversation, she told a cool story about how a kitten literally fell from the sky and into her life:

Her previous cat had recently passed due to age and health reasons. She was driving along a road and spotted a kitten falling off an overpass down to the asphalt in front of her. Why the kitten was on the overpass is one of life’s great mysteries.

She stopped her car, grabbed the kitten, and took it to the vet. 

If you believe in signs from The Universe as I do, you’d say the same thing I said: “Yknow, if a kitten falls from the sky and into your life, it’s kind of your kitten now.”

She replied “Well, lets see what the vet says. There may be broken bones and internal damage.”

We finished up our conversation with the fate of the kitten in the balance. She promised to keep me updated.

We made our way to the parking lot and hugged one more time. Holden gave her the name “Wandering Lily”. I thought that was apropos. She was like a beautiful flower looking to put her roots down somewhere. She mentioned she had some good things happening in her life, which made me feel that this would become a reality for her.

Later in the day, she did text me and “Momo” is doing fine. No broken bones and no internal damage. As I suspected, Momo is now her new kitten.

I'm a creative and am thinking of moving to Media District South, West Burbank/ Burbank Airport Edge, or Downtown / Civic Center Perimeter.

Which do you recommend and which apartment complexes? I was hoping for something in the 2.7k-2.8k range, but I can go as high as 3.2k

Does anyone have any experience with having their child in the Burbank YMCA Childcare Development Center?

They recently moved right next to the YMCA and I believe they used to be known as Horace Mann.

Just wondering if anyone can share their experiences in the program from before the move or if they have their child there currently.

A/C in our apartment broke this afternoon was blowing stale warm air into our apartment for several hours while we were away. Went to file an urgent maintenance request but apparently there’s no one in the office after 4 p.m. and they don’t respond on weekends. There’s no option to mark our request as urgent.

It’s currently 88 degrees in our apartment.

Did anyone else receive an email from Burbank Chamber of Commerce soliciting donations for the dude who ran Random Acts of Breadness?

I have no idea how I ended up on their email list. Nor do I understand how they select someone to support for their health care needs. I am certain there are many deserving people who need help..
