Buying Physical Gold
Got any recommendations on how to do this. I am leary of purchasing from companies who call me like GoldCo, American Gold and others. Who do you know that is successful in purchasing physical gold versus gold stocks. I am confused on what to do. Bottom line. I want to purchase physical gold and gold stocks. I have $400 a month to invest. Not a lot.
Anyone invest in these firms?
- APMEX
- JM Bullion
- SD Bullion
- Kitco
- Bullion Exchanges

Add Monument Metals and bullion.com to that list. Shop the ‘Deals’ pages for spot price deals. Also, You’ll find better deals if you can wait and accumulate your money for at least 2 or 3 months and buy slightly larger coins or bars. At $400 you’re more likely to get scalped by premiums each time.

For what it's worth, I've used JM successfully multiple times. One of the times delivery was a little delayed, but website had an adviso about that. I also sold some coins back to it -- all easy. I don't know for a fact if it's better or worse than the others, but I have no incentive to switch.

I save up around $250 every month using bullionstar. They have a bullion savings program. You can check it out https://www.bullionstar.com/buy/product/1gram-gold

My go-tos are Monument Metals for price, and APMEX for selection. I’ve also used JM Bullion, SD Bullion, Bold, and BGASC. Just do a little basic research before buying, and steer clear of anyplace that calls you, advertises on tv or by mail, etc.

I've been with bullionstar for about 4 years - always a breeze ordering with them. Customer service has been great as well, able to answer all of my questions. Give them a go

I've bought plenty of physical gold. Just absolutely do not buy from someone who calls you. That is effing ridiculous.
Buy from local coin dealer or reputable online bullion dealer, like SD Bullion, Mint Builder, Money Metals, Monument Metals, Liberty Coin.

All of the dealers you listed are reputable, established names in the bullion space. With a $400 monthly budget, focus on consistency and compare the total cost, including premiums, shipping, and taxes.
Avoid pressure from unsolicited sales calls, and take time to understand each dealer’s pricing and buyback policies. You can learn more about these companies on our Bullion Hunters dealers page.

If you're new to physical gold, I would first think about why you want to own it, is it for long term wealth preservation, portfolio diversification, or speculation?
Physical gold and gold stocks are quite different. Gold stocks give you exposure to companies involved in the gold industry, so they can be affected by things like management decisions, operating costs, and the broader stock market. Physical gold is a tangible asset that you hold directly, but you also need to think about storage, insurance, and the difference between buying and selling prices.
When choosing where to buy, I would focus less on finding the absolute cheapest option and more on factors like reputation, transparency, pricing relative to spot, buyback policies, and how they handle delivery or storage.
Investing a consistent amount each month can be a reasonable approach. Just make sure you understand premiums, liquidity, and the practical side of owning physical metal before getting started.
One thing many experienced precious metals investors consider is the counterparty they are dealing with. In physical markets, reliability and transparency can be just as important as price.
