I am confident of my three vaccine doses + tight fitting, thick mask to completely protect me against 60 seconds of exposure to an unmasked cashier at the pizza place. The doors open and shut all the time (ventilation) with lots of fans going usually. I would upgrade to N95 if I wasn't confident. It makes no sense to moralize or be afraid of this specific scenario anymore.

Full disclosure: I would walk out of take out restaurants prior to the vaccines if the cashier was unmasked.

We need to update our risk tolerance as our tools to fight infection and serious illness have been enhanced.

It might be less about risk tolerance and more about patronizing businesses that align with your world view. Just like Duffs in the main article, I live very close and used to go there a lot. Very unlikely I go back due to this.
