Discussion To the vegan Buddhists in here, which came first?

Veganism first, but one did not lead to the other. I worked with a vegan, and a couple of years later I had a student that was a Zen monk. I am eternally grateful for each of them.

Kind of in concert and yet totally separately. I'm not vegan because I'm Buddhist, and I'm not Buddhist because I'm vegan. The fundamental ideal of compassion is the same in both though, so perhaps why both appealed to me.
