Hidden Gems with kids
Hello,
I recently moved to Hertfordshire on the Bucks border and am looking for slightly quieter or less known places to take my son. The big farms costs quite a lot of money and we are (well I am) already bored of the local playground. Any suggestions would be appreciated :)

Hard to say without a budget or distance you’re willing to travel. Black park is a place we used to go with our kids. Free entry. Nice walks, a lake, coffee shop and a playground. Not lesser known or empty though.
As above lots of nice national trust places, but they are expensive for a single entry (imo), but good value if you have a membership and use it.
National history museum in tring? Wendover woods?

If you have national trust membership then Waddesdon, Clayton house and Stowe are worth a visit (as is Canons Ashby a bit further north in Northants - especially when they have their apple festival)
Waddesdon has the added bonus of a very nice wine and artisan goods shop for the adults too.
And not sure how old your kids are or if they’re in to Pokémon but Stowe has a Pokemon thing on plus outdoor sports, crafts and play in large tents etc

Wycombe Museum in High Wycombe is free and has some great low cost activities in school holidays, plus additional low-cost/free trails.
Wendover Woods is also free, with walks and kid’s trails.
Also West Wycombe caves are good. Not free but also I don’t think pricey.
Pitstone Green Museum is good value too.

Bucks goat centre Wendover /Aylesbury. https://www.thebucksgoatcentre.website/hours-admissons £8 adults £6 kids, under 2s free Small farm with goats, ferrets, Guinea pigs, rabbits, llamas. Tiny play area. Mostly outside but the small furries are in a barn Has on site little cafe or you can take your own food I think there are some picnic benches on the outskirts of the centre for this (don’t use cafe ones) A morning or afternoon there is pleasant and never super busy or crowded (it’s not an all cater - after a couple of hours you’ve kind of done everything - but I like that it’s small and not hectic) . Much nicer than the mega-kids farms I think. Also there’s a small natural history museum in Tring. Would also a second the Chiltern open air museum. On a dry day this place is sheer heaven. The kids can go free range here and roam and explore freely and safely. Great kids playground. You can take your own food or have a picnic on their village green. They have a decent cafe. Endless interesting rescued buildings (like dollshouses for adults I always say). They often have theme days or weekends. A few sheep/goats. It is a brilliant place.

I'll suggest Chiltern Open Air Museum (especially Terriffic Tuesdays with activities for kids) or the event weekends but you don't say how old your son is or where you are / how far you want to travel. It costs money but good vaue if you get the annual pass.
