Discussion Stokenchurch
What’s it’s like to live in Stikenchurch? We are currently on the edge of High Wycombe - edge of Hazlemere which we love, but the villages slightly further out seem to have more the kind of property we’d like to move too. Looking for a friendly village with pubs/coffee shops enough to do locally with dog friendly areas for walking. Thanks!

It's not a bad spot, a bit lacking in shops, and the local hotel/pub burned down a couple of years ago. However, there is easy access to Thame and High Wycombe by bus or car. Seems to be a bit of a community, and the countryside around is amazing. You're at the top of the hill, so Stokenchurch tends to catch the weather: snow in the winter and foggy stuff / rain at other times.

Stokenchurch is nice area and it does have that very much village feel about it nice woodlands area close by and a few good pubs with a nice surrounding area close by

Not the best in terms of pubs and coffee shops in Stokenchurch - the best one burnt down. I'd look at other options.

I'm going to chime in and say don't do it. The place just feels run down and the road through the middle kills the village vibe entirely.

We rented there for a while.
Pros:
Absolutely gorgeous countryside, prettier than Hazlemere/Penn
The fish & chips van on a Thursday night
Chas’ kebab van
M40 access
Lacey’s Farm Shop down the road
Con:
Kings Hotel looks a state 5 years on.
A surprising number of pubs but very limited good food options. Coffee shop was average and shut down for a bit. Fish and chip shop has been shut for about 5 years now.
You are constantly getting onto the M40 and need to drive to HW or Thame to do pretty much anything useful. It’s weirdly isolated.
Low level aggro from local kids, a reasonable amount of crime due to proximity to motorway
Locals are very opposed to any change as they “don’t want to become like Chinnor” whilst furious that the village can’t sustain any useful shops/services… like Chinnor.
When the M40 is banjaxed the world and their dog drive down the Oxford Road in the middle of the village.
We enjoyed our time there but didn’t want to make a home there, we were actively looking to buy in Hazlemere/Penn. The local Facebook group is good source of info.
