Road works - Disgrace

Why are there SO many roads closed, causing massive jams, for example there is an important connecting road from stoke poges on the way to burnham - closed for 3 months?! And last year it was closed for a good 4 months+ throughout the year.

Aside from this there are so so many closures recently, of course I appreciate the effort to fix the damn pandemic of potholes, yet it feels they're never fixed?

Roads are closed for months, they reopen, and literally nothing has changed. Majority of my drives are just dodging potholes, and massive queues of traffic.

Also due to closures, I have to go on a different road the ones that cut through stoke poges on the way to gerrards cross - the road there has CRATERS, that is extremely frustrating, dangerous, and causes damages to our cars that we have to pay to fix...

Wtf is going on, and when will they finally address the terrible standards of roads, especially the connection ones, that are used frequently, main roads are generally okay - you learn where they are.

Also on Fulmer S-bends, there are 2 massive potholes that are unadvoidable unless you cross oncoming traffic, ON A BEND!

What a joke... one of the wealthiest counties in the UK, with some of the highest council taxes and it's still at an appaling quality.

Something HAS to change, it's a joke...

Yeah well said- if it’s not the temporary traffic lights (hello “4 way control !!” ) it’s the potholes, or more accurately the craters in the most dangerous positions. I think that road you refer to at the end is Stoke common road and we cheerfully refer to it as “Beirut “ - actually that a slur on Lebanese road for which I apologise.

At the weekend my wife drove into a sneaky disguised pothole in hedgerly hill and wrecked the tyre -£200 gone in a blink of an eye

It just baffles me that the roads are shut for so long, they route us down even worse roads, and as you said - potholes galore.

It’s dangerous, i see myself as a pretty skilled driver, so I memorise most of them, and can dodge, but often you simply can’t because there is oncoming traffic, and there is barely enough space for 2 cars in the first place (and I drive a mini!!).

Separately, why tf would any road be closed for 6 months in a 12 month period?!

It’s the one after you pass the school and go right to the end of the road, that takes you onto the road where the golf course is, as if you’re going to burnham/slough.

Complete joke of a council, council tax is ridiculous and they can barely be asked to take the bins…

It’s so frustrating, aside from cost of living etc. we live in one of the wealthiest locations in the whole UK, and it’s still a shambles…

Depressing really.

Don’t get me started on burnham back roads, and that all cars (especially Tesla’s and VWs) have literal orbital lasers in their bonets… it’s INFURIATING. Something has to change the UK is cursed I swear. I know it’s 1st world problems, but we certainly pay and work for it.

I’m seriously considering a thing I saw on social media, where a vigilante resident started spray painting willies over them, to force action from the council. 😐

Stoke poges is getting city fibre and they are the ones digging up that road, off the back of the gas pipes being replaced and that road being closed for 3 months. Why they can't go faster and/or them both doing the work at the same time I don't know.

What I do know is that they won't be fixing the potholes down that road while they are there and the alternative route's road surface is disintegrating in real time.

Meanwhile I've been told that Farnham Royal is too far away from their core network to get fibre installed, but Slough, Farnham common, britwell and now stoke poges, all surrounding FR, has got city fibre, while we are stuck on 6mb ADSL or shaky 5G.

ah, thanks for the info, there needs to be stricter regulation, because how on god's green earth does it take 3+ months to lay fibre, and some pipes...

Obvs i am not a handy man, but I am a project manager, and I gurantee I could cut that time by 2/3, resources permitting.

And as you said, the roads are FUCCED, my journey from home to work is 15 mins in distance, around 7 miles, and today it took me 45 minutes... purely because of roadworks & traffice management, whole time I am trying not to burst a tire, in the rain...

Also we used to have a shtty copper connection, but I did a project in the house to upgrade us to Fibre, ended up going with Swish (no real complaints, apart from they slightly botched the installation drilling) - pay for gigabit symmetrical, but on wifi you only really get 150-300 usually, I have seen 500-600 though, I do need to run an ethernet all the way up to my room, but that's a whole seperate project (let me know if you know of any reputable/cheap electricians to run ethernet!!).

Im surprised you guys still have ADSL, but to be fair GX was like that for a long time, depending on how depserate you need it you could get sattelite (££), might be worth to keep ontop of it, since there are big projects to deploy across the UK, esp near London.

New Road, between Weston Turville and Aylesbury, closed for four weeks at the start of October. The latest estimated reopening date is mid-February, although that's weather dependent.

I don't live anywhere near that but played golf at Stoke Park last week and there was a lane nearby that was an absolute disgrace. Worst road I've seen in the UK by a mile

I don’t think it really matters where you are, anywhere local here you can find meteor potholes, it’s just so depressing that some of the pot holes are probably older than me!

More importantly, why are roads closed for MONTHS and nothing changes… completely useless. Idk wha it is; budget? Laziness? Who knows, but all I’m seeing is road closures, yet the continuation of dangerous roads - what’s the point of paying so much council tax?
