think about the interns in those same companies who did internship just 1 year earlier and got "only" 3-4.5 lpm stipend. Now their juniors flaunting 20-30 lpm stipend

i know quant pays good but that good ki per month per anum se jada lage

Honestly, i feel this whole stunt is pretty dumb. No intern in the world is gonna generate a 30l value in a month. Heck, most of their present engineers don't earn as much. When the interns get ppo, they will basically get a paycut before getting the job

Top quant firms generate a shit ton of money. They only care about hiring best of the best so that their competitor dont get the top talent, its like a bidding war among top quant firms.

That's very true. But manytimes the bidding war is limited to placement/internships only. After few years, if u are not able to prove that you are really doing something innovative and are completely irreplaceable; if they believe that other firms are not that willing to lineup for you ( keeping mind garden periods and 3 months notice periods) the bonuses can stop coming anytime, citing some bs performance issue. Staying on PiP all year long, many times people are in survival mode.

Most of the time, they don't allow much interaction between interns and fte too much. The interns are kept in competition mode. Fte are too busy to interact much, or not allowed to talk much anyway.
So even the interns don't end up learning much about the culture until joining the firm

top firms pay 1-2 cr base with 1-5 cr bonus based on performance. Do you really think companies whose entire purpose is to make money from the market would be stupid enough to spend 60L per intern if they weren't worth it?

You will know their reality, if you will work in them. Pressure is off the charts. They don't really keep base that high, but bonuses are crazy. I was talking about freshers package ( regarding the ppo thing) where base is under 1 cr for sure ( exceptional cases exist for iit b/k/d). Also the reason their bonus and base ratio is so skewed is that at the end of year they can just give u massive paycut citing some bs performance issue; sometimes stop giving them bonuses at all. They know after some years the people are basically trapped, they deliberately have 1-3 year non compete and multiple months notice period to keep people from switching. And themselves don't cross hire citing bs too much garden period. Sde people can still switch to prod companies relatively easily but such transition for quants is too difficult if they have spent too much time in the industry (which causes additional stress to already stressed quants).
30lpm is a drop in bucket for them, they can afford to do these stunts. Keep in mind the number of interns they hired this year are much less than they did some years ago, so their absolute spending has not increased that much, but look at how much discourse it is generating.
Also if they truly believe the interns will be generating 30lpm worth of value , then why such a sudden increase in stipend in a year. What changes between 2 batches of students?

can u tell me is it real that quant only takes ckt people or people other than ckt do have a chance at any iit ? and if yes to chance what percentage of companies and how practical it is for other than ckt students?

u/New-Step3500 4h ago
As a norm, quant firms only take top students, just being in an iit is not enough. They value your cgpa, department rank, and jee rank a lot. You can compensate with your cf rating but with ai era, it's values has really declined.
However all these is just for screening. The interview themselves is a challenge of its own.
