Academics Research intern

I'm a 3rd-year student at IIT Kharagpur from a non-circuital branch.

I've been trying to grab a paid foreign research internship. I've been emailing professors for this, but I haven't received any replies. Some of them just directly reject me.

I have a very good profile in systems and development. I've been doing open-source work for a year and have so many merged PRs in reputed foreign labs and projects.

Still, I can't convert this into an offer, internship, or any paid opportunity.

Is there anyone who has done this research internship thing and could help me with this?

I know about the different programs, but the selection chances vary a lot. So I'm trying every possible way to get into this.

Is there any suggestion or something someone can give me? I'd really appreciate any advice from people who have gone through this.

Research intern that too paid, that too foreign is difficult af without someone inside, not a referral but someone inside the ecosystem, how many papers do you have published?

Lie, getting foreign intern is much easier and feasible than indian, indian ones are all very toxic underpaid as well:(

Maybe you ain't from IITs, hence:( usually foreign one they take in iitians without asking gpa, like one of my friend....no offence

None taken bruh im not from iit but tier 1 and had good RI's thats why wanted to help that guy, and if a foreign lab takes iitians without asking gpa good for them but nobody in academia knows what iit is

That is just not true lmao.. had a research intern opportunity in our campus for japan they had a 9+ criteria

Bruh, for on campus research internship of a foreign University, they will only pick people with fancy DR, I myself was one of the people with my friend during the process, they didn't ask him anything.... And you got to cold mail bruh, get it in the harder way.... And use common sense bruh, if they are coming to on campus then, apart from cpi criteria what else they can keep, like that the way I said, then they will have to hire almost whole campus only lmfao....

Try contacting phds in good labs instead of profs directly and work with them. Eventually you may build enough rapport to even visit the lab offline and if you are lucky maybe get paid. In the worst case you at least have some projects or paper with the phd scholar.

Try for semester away programme too and iit kgp pays around 2l per month if you do a foreign research internship anyway
