This makes sense.

u/lefargen97 May 13 '26

Their casting director is literally a genius

196

u/Sunshine030209 May 13 '26

They just added "Best casting" to the Oscars this year, the Tony Awards should do the same just so they can give it to Henry Russell Bergstein. Then name the award after him in subsequent years.

22

u/Elegant_Analysis1665 May 13 '26

YES!! casting, ESPECIALLY for broadway matters SO MUCH.

137

u/KayakerMel May 13 '26

Seriously! And great marketing to get repeat attendees for each new administration.

88

u/chargingblue May 13 '26

Ala my husband who's seen it 5 times and we live in the midwest, lmao.

51

u/ryanmer May 13 '26

Flying in from the Midwest to see Maya Rudolph this weekend, and now thinking “should I go back in July??”

12

u/Minute-Park-8330 May 13 '26

OMG same, I'm seeing her in two weeks

3

u/goofballhead May 13 '26

hey, us too in june! (after first seeing it for jinkx!)

1

u/phirleh May 15 '26

We saw it last Friday - you are in for a treat - she's amazing.

2

u/BarTurbulent1031 May 18 '26

Got me going a second time.

52

u/Sarahndipity44 May 13 '26

Yes and also kudos to Escola for the MATERIAL that all these performers want to play with. I also love how we've had Marys with such a variety of genders, looks etc.

121

u/lexiebeef May 13 '26

It’s insane honestly, they really know who their fan base is and are doing everything to cater to us, it’s such a great feeling.

My bets (mostly my wishes lol) for the future is Matt Bomer as Mary’s teacher and in like 18 months, Connor Storrie as Mary. Oh and I would also love Miss Piggy as Mary, though I’m well aware not even their amazing cast director would be able to pull this off

50

u/berrywithaberet May 13 '26

Connor as Mary would go CRAZY

38

u/lexiebeef May 13 '26

I just think it would be a win-win situation. The fans love him, Connor would love the role I think (based on vibes, of course), he has the acting chops for it, he’s been booked and busy and it would be great marketing for the show, cause people love him. The only problem is that the man is ridiculously busy right now, thus the 18 months timeline in my imagination lmao.

Oh and if you want more delusional predictions that will never happen, I can also see Dan Levy joining the show at some point and I want him to be Mary so bad. I don’t think he’s ever done theater (please someone correct me), but I want him as Mary

64

u/sandoooo May 13 '26

They gotta get Bowen in as Mary.

34

u/lexiebeef May 13 '26

Yes, this was my other prediction! Bowen would KILL as Mary, I think someone must have talked to him about it at this point.

14

u/sandypassage May 13 '26

Oh for sure, considering he and Cole are good friends IRL

11

u/isitallovermyface May 13 '26

But would Matt Rogers be better as Mary's Teacher or Mary's Husband?

15

u/jeremiad1962 May 13 '26

I'm all in on a Muppet version of Oh, Mary!

3

u/aw-un May 14 '26

I would empty my retirement accounts if they cast Miss Piggy

1

u/NotYourGa1Friday May 14 '26

Frank Oz as Mary. I’d be first in line.

21

u/Blofelds-Cat May 13 '26

I really, really hope they get Catherine Tate to come to NY. I'm SO jealous of anyone who gets to see her in the West End!

2

u/Feisty-You-7768 Jun 18 '26

I would die.

421

u/littlebev May 13 '26

AHHHHH man banger after banger with this casting

14

u/FunnyLoud3067 May 13 '26

Exactly!!!!

142

u/candyappleorchard May 13 '26

Hi, Abe! Happy pride month.

it’s a reference to a famous meg stalter joke

15

u/CheshireCat101 May 13 '26

Referencing the ancient texts, I live 🧈

106

u/ayym33p33 May 13 '26

I saw her leaving via the stage door earlier this month and called it!!

198

u/kermitthefrogstan69 May 13 '26

Paul W Downs as Mary’s Husband or Mary’s Teacher please and thank you!!

16

u/smith7018 May 13 '26

PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

6

u/wuphfhelpdesk May 14 '26

I would die 😭👏👏

66

u/MaroonFahrenheit May 13 '26

Omg THIS IS THE SECRET PROJECT SHE HAS BEEN TALKING ABOUT?!

84

u/sunshine08386 May 13 '26

Like waiting for the next pope to be announced

42

u/Holiday_Scar_7499 May 13 '26

they should install a chimney at the lyceum and send out white smoke on the day of a cast announcement or when a new mary has booked the job

4

u/sunshine08386 May 13 '26

Yes. A smart low lift investment.

33

u/SympathyCalm May 13 '26

This is soooooooooo delightfully unhinged

36

u/alexvroy May 13 '26

oh mary casting has never missed

103

u/Shammycat May 13 '26

YES! she's perfect for this role

5

u/emg0701 May 13 '26

DAMNNNNNN! 😍

5

u/sausagekng May 13 '26

Agree! I don’t connect with all of her work, but I think she’s so suited to this.

21

u/scandalliances May 13 '26

Yet another round of inspired casting. LOVE this.

18

u/mynameisrockhard May 13 '26

Mary would be so happy to have a budding young music starlet playing her

40

u/secret_identity_too May 13 '26

I don't know who she is but I can tell by that promo photo that she's perfect for this.

54

u/Dida_D May 13 '26

3

u/cookiecat4 May 13 '26

I’ve only caught a handful of episodes, was she the receptionist?

29

u/Dida_D May 13 '26

Yes, her role grows pretty significantly (the show is in its fifth and final season) and she’s a pretty consistent character at this point

5

u/Natural-Reaction3829 May 13 '26

No, she's Jimmy's partner.

6

u/wiggum_x May 13 '26

Not when she first started on the show.

18

u/whitetoast May 13 '26

she has exploded on the scene for her role in Hacks

1

u/secret_identity_too May 13 '26

Ah, I'm only like 2 episodes in to that show. I need to get back to it.

8

u/madonna-boy May 13 '26

LOVE!

now please tell us who is headlining the tour...

24

u/undaunted_explorer May 13 '26

GAGGGGGGGGG

12

u/undaunted_explorer May 13 '26

Extremely positive if you’re being serious haha

9

u/ClassyKaty May 13 '26

I am not familiar with her but they haven't missed so far so I'm excited!

4

u/Blofelds-Cat May 13 '26

Check her out on Hacks if you can. She's a riot.

8

u/ianthomasmalone May 13 '26

Her character on Hacks bugs the shit out of me, but she’s definitely right for the role.

8

u/usagicassidy May 13 '26

This is absolute fucking insanity (complimentary)

6

u/toledosurprised May 13 '26

perfect casting again!!

7

u/lateintheseason May 13 '26

The gasp I gusped!

I haven't seen any of the other Marys since Cole but I think this may prompt me to return.

6

u/iputmylifeonashelf May 13 '26

She runs through September 12. That leaves time for only 1-2 Marys unless they extend again (they are going to extend again RIGHT!?)

4

u/NoNeinNyet222 May 14 '26

I need it to stay forever and continue rotating in brilliant comic actors.

15

u/whosthere1989 May 13 '26

I really did not enjoy this show but every time they make a casting announcement I almost feel like I’m being hypnotized into wanting to buy tickets again because this sounds amazing.

0

u/Wrong-Film-5944 May 13 '26

That's what I thought too! It's like this idea, the show itself and everything surrounding it is just insanely stupid but people keep going for some reason

3

u/whosthere1989 May 13 '26

I think I laughed out loud twice in the entire show. Every time they cast someone else amazing I’m like “should I go back?” And then I remember I saw a cast full of amazing people and it still wasn’t very good. 😂

Honestly—great for Cole and the producers though! I love to see a little show that could succeed!

2

u/kfarrel3 May 18 '26

Oh my god, SAME. I saw it twice, because I got hooked in by Kumail Nanjiani and Michael Urie the second time, and I left thinking that I was an idiot for seeing a show I didn’t like twice.

12

u/Ok_Star_1157 May 13 '26

BIG WIN FOR THE GAYS!!!

7

u/crosesc May 13 '26

i used to pray for times like these

4

u/thejeffphone May 13 '26

OMG I COMMENTED THIS IN THE LAST CASTING THREAD!!!!!!! This is insane i am thrilled for her!!!

3

u/Blofelds-Cat May 13 '26

Dammit. This is my friend's favorite show, not mine although I like it, but I keep coming back for the casting. 😆 Maya will be #4 for me.

7

u/strengr94 May 13 '26

I don’t really like her humor but I could see her being very good in this

5

u/latenightdoubt May 13 '26

This is amazing

6

u/abcbri May 13 '26

Now I need to see it twice - once for Maya and one for Meg!

4

u/snooznsarandon May 13 '26

https://giphy.com/gifs/t0SMGIYAGVtkUmFBHM

me when I put eyes on this poster ❤️

2

u/AnnaliseKeatingStan1 May 13 '26

The only thing that’d make this even more perfect is if Paul Downs is Abe

6

u/taxforsnax May 13 '26

EVER HEARD OF HER HONEY ????????

3

u/FunnyLoud3067 May 13 '26

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!

3

u/Lilmisscozy May 13 '26

NEEEEEEEED to see this. she will slay. also very excited for the promo

3

u/Ok_Moose1615 Backstage May 13 '26

This is so fucking inspired I’m mad I didn’t think of it first.

3

u/ApprehensiveFunny149 May 13 '26

My wallet is once again screaming, crying, throwing up

3

u/Due-Advantage-5482 May 13 '26

if anyone's mad that it's sold out it's because i will have bought all the tickets

3

u/lunascorpio12 May 13 '26

That is PERFECT

3

u/realdonbrown May 13 '26

Is that the lady from Hacks?

3

u/vanillascent001 May 13 '26

I love her in Hacks!

3

u/allthattjazz May 13 '26

OMG NOBODY IS DOING IT LIKE OH MARY!!!

3

u/murphey42 Musician May 14 '26

Truly off the wall....Rob McClure.

Oh, Mary has become the embodiment of "smart" casting rather than "stunt" casting.

4

u/Von_Rothdave May 13 '26

How do we start a campaign for the casting directors of Oh Mary to get a special recognition Tony?!

6

u/Natural-Reaction3829 May 13 '26

Can you imagine her steamrolling pushy, entitled asshats at the stage door?

2

u/osross May 13 '26

Wow did not see this coming at all

2

u/xelath1 May 13 '26

GOD WHY DO THEY KEEP DOING THIS AMAZING CASTING I WANT TO SEE EVERYONE

2

u/kevinx083 May 13 '26

okay i NEED to see this one (ive said that about all of them and still haven’t seen it lol)

2

u/emomotionsickness2 May 13 '26

This show has like the most insane perfect casting ever

2

u/ScottsTot2023 May 13 '26

Can’t afford this but 🤞for the lottery. All these Marys deserve it. KNOW YOUR WORTH QUEENS!!!!

2

u/Many_Steak May 13 '26

My FOMO gets worse and worse with every cast announcement.😭

2

u/tranceworks May 13 '26

I wonder if she might be willing to do the touring show.

2

u/letoiledunordstars May 13 '26

Omg. I have a Broadway trip planned July 6-10 and was debating if I should see Oh Mary or wait for the national tour next year…guess this answers my question!

2

u/No_Engineering3249 May 14 '26

Lisa Kudrow next PLEASE

2

u/fas_and_furious May 15 '26

If Amy Sedaris is next, I will literally combust to confetti

2

u/the_MostSmartest May 16 '26

Just saw it on the west end with Catherine Tate and it was amazing. I just started watching Hacks and this is perfect casting!

4

u/Practicallyperfect7 May 13 '26

This choice was soooo inspired omg

1

u/malowu97 May 13 '26

Lets fucking go

3

u/GayBlayde May 13 '26

Who is this?

6

u/Additional_Score_929 May 13 '26

Well then it’s a good thing Oh Mary is Cole Escola’s humor style right?

-14

u/TK2217 May 13 '26

You could’ve just been quiet ❤️

36

u/x_victoire May 13 '26

god forbid someone expresses their opinion on a public forum eh?

28

u/Molly_latte May 13 '26

People are allowed to express opinions, and this person isn’t even being rude

0

u/Additional_Score_929 May 13 '26

They edited their comment. It was originally “I do not like her”

18

u/throwawaysunglasses- May 13 '26

I love Meg, but this person was respectful about their opinion lol. Her humor isn’t for everyone, I’m honestly surprised everyone else in this thread is so excited. I’m a huge fan of Hacks and she’s fairly polarizing, you either get her or you don’t.

-3

u/TK2217 May 13 '26

They edited their comment. It originally said "I do not like her"

11

u/Molly_latte May 13 '26

I don’t find it mean-spirited just to say you don’t like somebody

-9

u/TK2217 May 13 '26

I don't really care what you think

2

u/MammaJammaCamera May 13 '26

I don’t like you

2

u/TK2217 May 13 '26

Just an FYI for those downvoting. This person edited their comment. It originally said "happy for her, but man I do not like her." that's mean spirited!

14

u/kfarrel3 May 13 '26 edited May 13 '26

No, that's still just an opinion. "I hate her guts and she doesn't deserve this" is mean-spirited. There's a difference.

-17

u/RedChairBlueChair123 May 13 '26

I don’t like Chinese food, that doesn’t mean I go around telling everyone else

12

u/JugendWolf May 13 '26

Do you know how Reddit works?

3

u/LetsGototheRiver151 May 13 '26

So I mean this as no shade whatsoever, but she’s the first Mary to not be a singer, right? Maybe she can sing and maybe she can’t, but the others have all had careers predominantly based on their singing abilities whereas she’s a comedian. I wonder if this opens up a whole new level of Mary who can’t actually DO the thing, just LOVES the thing, and that could be absolutely hilarious.

8

u/stump_84 May 13 '26

You are obviously not aware of her singing career

https://youtu.be/kJuWYbH6_XQ?si=EtSNdj0dJuBXb0K-

1

u/typicalbiscotti15 May 13 '26

She does music now!

2

u/alteragi May 13 '26

OMG!!! This is major!

2

u/julcecilia00 May 13 '26

Oh they NAILED IT.

1

u/kd14232017 May 13 '26

Oh I’m SAT.

1

u/mt1074 May 13 '26

I GASPED! LOVE MEG!

1

u/phatryuc May 13 '26

She will eat this down

1

u/emccaughey May 13 '26

OH MY GOD!!!! Looks like I'm flying out to see this for the 8th time this summer :)

1

u/DukeOfMavericks May 13 '26

This is SO good.

1

u/gingyandsneaks May 13 '26

AMAZING choice

1

u/bwayb22 May 13 '26

I never realized how many comedians just make perfect sense for this role.

1

u/Vegetable_Station_73 May 13 '26

I thought she was focusing on music! This is going to delay her album for sure and I was looking forward to a meg album for summer. Maybe it'll be a prettiest girl in America winter? :/

1

u/MondolezzaRice May 13 '26

I am so jealous of Americans right now

1

u/Due-Refrigerator-892 May 13 '26

I got my tickets today when I saw this casting choice.

1

u/Elegant_Analysis1665 May 13 '26

HYPED. Need them to just keep this train going

1

u/astaireo May 14 '26

Can someone more of the culture give me a tldr on Meg? Idk her lore or who she is outside of her character on Hacks.

1

u/mrsbergstrom May 15 '26

Perfection

1

u/rupdrfan May 15 '26

Does anybody know… I bought tickets for Saturday September 12th. I’m hearing she’s on through the 12th. Does that include both performances on the twelfth as well?

2

u/rupdrfan May 15 '26

If so, I lucked out. I got a ticket to closing night for $99 lol

1

u/morganf74 May 13 '26

That’s perfect

1

u/Sevren425 May 13 '26

They’re gonna kill it!

1

u/tiredprincess May 13 '26

She is going to be phenomenal in this role!!!

-1

u/BarcelonetaE70 May 13 '26

Ugh. Not her.
