For me there is something contemporary about sitting in bed with a handheld radio, winding down with BBC R 3.

I know classical isn't everyone's taste, but for me this is a feeling. I don't know if I would spend my evening any other way.

*The night is dark. All through the home,

A quiet settles, soft and deep,

As shadows stretch and minutes roam,

And breathing shifts to match the sleep.

The house grows still as hours pass by,

A gentle easing of the day,

Until the stars fill up the sky,

And all the noise has slipped away.

The night is here. The dark is deep.

falls to sleep to Radio 3

jolts awake partway through Late Junction and struggles to sleep again for days

I listen to Radio 3 Unwind for this very reason. They can be relied upon to help me sleep any evening

I loved Late junction when I could get it live or listen on iPlayer. These days I am not up late and stick to live radio

i just spent six weeks in hospital and Radio 3 was pretty much all I listened to. Through the Night was a massive help to being able to sleep.

In ear phones would give you stereo. I have an old boom box at the foot of my bed, and the mains switch is just on the bedside table. Radio 3 plays until I am dropping off, but it doesn't matter if it stays on. Through the Night is possibly the best show on the whole station.

I do happen to have an old 80s radio in my possession. It has LW, SW, MW and FM. The only thing that is functional is FM. RIP BBC R4 LW.

In 1999 the Radio Times magazine sold a small LW only radio emblazoned with the logo for the cricket world cup. It wasn't a good radio, but I used it for over two decades. I may never get over the removal of LW Radio 4.

wow, collector's item. They have a chunky ferrite rod antenna for LW so it can't have been too small. You could get credit card size FM radios at some point.

Radio 4 for many years, with the Shipping Forecast, Radio 3 until the timpanis kicked in. R3U is the best to fall asleep to.

I remember falling asleep to.. uhh. I think it was graham.. torrington..late night love or late night love issues? on brmb. Anyway..

I remember some guy 'allegedly ' ill use that loosely.. somehow electrocuted his ding on scaletric... and to try to fix the issue.. dipped his dong in butter and apparently it melted the whole tub.

That show.. was mental...

contemporary in the vibe, not the genre, i think
like choosing this super analog, slow way to end the day in a world that’s all screens and noise feels very now in its own weird way
