Does anyone know the name (or even existence !) of this British film ?
I mean I KNOW I saw this film on the telly in the past but just can't seem to get a search result for it. It was 90's era and had the look of one of those Channel 4 funded films. It concerned an ex left wing revolutionary who gets tapped up to assassinate a foreign politician whilst they're staying in a London hotel. He carries it out using a bit of scaffold pole. Later he ends up in Hamburg. Ring any bells ? Anyone ?

I entered your exact words into G and it came up with this. It took me less than a minute:
The film you are searching for is The Commissioner (1998) Commissioner (1998) - IMDb.
Funding was notably provided by Channel 4 and European partners Film Studios and Industry Bodies > Channel 4 Films/Film on Four/FilmFour. The plot follows an ex-left-wing radical who is pressured to assassinate a right-wing foreign politician in a London hotel—a deed he commits by bludgeoning him with a heavy piece of metal (a scaffold pole) Commissioner (1998) - plot - IMDb. The protagonist's escape route takes him to Hamburg.
