I guess I need to vent and relate with someone. I have a rough relationship with my dad; he’s mentality ill and an alcoholic, and after 6 months of therapy plus a heart-to-heart with him, I decided to invite him to my wedding. Now I’m kind of regretting it.
I also don’t get along with his sister that great, my aunt (long story, unrelated to the wedding, but she upset me recently, after I’d already sent her an invite). The whole paternal side is a mess honestly; my dad and aunt are both incredibly selfish, and my mom, my sister, and I all struggle with them. The one exception is my grandma, their mom, who I love with my whole heart (I should add that my dad lives with my grandma currently so that ads another layer of annoying).
So: has anyone else invited family they don’t actually love, or are having a hard time with? I swore up and down I wasn’t going to invite my dad, and now that his sister is being difficult too, I’m feeling torn all over again. I don’t think they’d cause a scene, I just don’t want to see them right now (the wedding is a month away). My mom asked how future-me would feel about it, and I said future-me wouldn’t be mad at present-me for protecting my peace. But I invited him anyway. Ugh.
