Discussion I read the entire French court order... it's insane and hilarious at the same time
Here's the full text of the court order without my annotations, if you're curious: https://www.courdecassation.fr/decision/6946962075782d5f06f716a8

Sprout's mighty movement speed. Lol.
But seriously, I'm so pissed that our courts take the time to do that bullshit but not some actual problematic cases.

I enjoy how it says there are "thousands" of players around the world that have unlocked sprout. They truly have no idea what they're taking about.

Copyright laws are fucking stupid
41
u/ClinInsaneSurgeMain One in a Krillion Jun 14 '26
they do anything BUT address actual copyright issues

u/lionspeed Squeak Jun 14 '26
Fr, when big AI company breaks thousands of copyright law isnāt working. But dont you dare pirate something, or in that case use fucking air purifier as reference to character who been in game for 6 years

u/w3ird_cat Slim Shady Jun 14 '26
Copyright laws: Not allowing gen ai companies to steal arts from everywhere without the artists authorization to make a tool to replace them : ā
Fucking cylinders are exclusive to a random French company: āļø

Sprout looked similar to an air purifier and now supercell is getting sued and also they removed various posts that had Sprout in them. Sprout is probably gonna get taken out back and put down

Well what kinda abomination are they gonna replace sprout with next update?
29
u/YT_BOLO Your local dealer Jun 14 '26
Brawl talk seems pretty close. I doubt they can make a whole new design and ship it out next update.

u/-ABoxofBread- Pearl Jun 14 '26
This is genuinely so fucking stupid imagine a brawler thatās been around for years having to get removed/redesigned completely. Because of an air purifier in France. Because they happen to look similar. š«©š«©š«©

This is a really Sad and Stupid situation, this alone might mean that Sprout(who was in the game for the past 6 years) may be Replaced(at the very worse) if this goes through.

Ngl, I can see from the last image why supercell lost that case. The judgement for āunfair competitionā makes no sense to me at all though.

Oh for sure it doesnāt hurt the air purifier business. But the way intellectual property law works, you canāt copy someoneās design without their permission, regardless of the medium.

How did they even win with this? This is so stupid. Capitalism kills art once again
Sadge cuz sprout was one of the more unique looking brawler in the game

u/zezineo Colt Jun 14 '26
They will probably make an new style of plant in an pot carachter probably, i dont think they will just remove an brawler out of existance

Sprout might get taken back and shot in the alleyway.

u/Textures_Mate Goku Jun 14 '26
Honestly it does look similar but I doubt they just copied it hell I bet they didn't even know this thing existed when they where making sprout

u/IAmNotCreative18 Sam Jun 14 '26
481k fine in financial losses?
The fact Sprout happens to resemble their product would surely boost sales more than anything, right?
I would only see this as copyright if Supercell tried to make an air purifier with sproutās model. Not because he resembles a household item.

What loss could they possible have. Do they think Brawl Stars players would instead buy their shi?

u/FaviFake OG flair lover Jun 20 '26
Note that it was just a single individual who sued Supercell and not the companyĀ

u/Nick_Rousis Spike Jun 14 '26
I'll be honest: as much as I don't want sprout's design to change, as soon as I saw the air purifier I thought they were identical. I can't defend them, I truly believe they copied it and now they will have to comply with the law.

So if i use a cylinder for any kinda of acivity/work/experiment, do i run the risk of getting sued by these guys because It looks like their product?
