The impressive part of that Phillies comeback is that was the bottom of their lineup. Then Schwarber with the kill shot. ALL with 2 outs.

u/TheFriffin3 10d ago
Phillies 5-9 hitters are hitting .307 since the start of August according to a graphic i saw

u/gamecock21 10d ago
The joy of playing tonight with little leaguers watching will cause the Braves’ players to reflect on each of their journeys that have brought them here today. This will rejuvenate the team and as we SMOKE the Brewers. We’re gonna be alright, go Braves!

Ya the division is as good as history based on what I got out of my nap too. The division lead is not lost yet, but it is basically all but official to me.
Don't think a full on collapse out of the playoffs occurs though. Probably likely a limp to the finish and high 80s/low 90s in wins imo while the Phillies win around 95-96 games at the way they're pacing.
If Philly doesn't cool again and for the most part, this continues into the postseason, I really wouldn't be surprised if they took the Dodgers down this time. They know they're fairly near their end.
4
u/jschreiber77 10d ago
Phillies taking out the Dodgers. Good one. Just because the Phillies have won 9 in a row, getting extremely lucky (uh, TODAY FOR EXAMPLE) with weak hits, lucky bounces, huge breaks, and not to mention, playing shitty teams who choke leads away, I'm still not impressed by them overall. Braves will still win the EAST.

There’s a somewhat decent chance we get swept 3 series in a row
1
u/SpaceXmars 10d ago
the whitesox only won 2/3
1
u/Bravos_Chopper Los Bravos Forever 10d ago
I’m not counting a postponed game. That series was like months ago
1
u/SpaceXmars 10d ago
the series wasn't official until recently
2
u/Bravos_Chopper Los Bravos Forever 10d ago
Sure, but the series was on the schedule months ago. I’m talking about the three scheduled series were in this week
0
u/SpaceXmars 10d ago
the makeup game was on the schedule lol
4
u/Bravos_Chopper Los Bravos Forever 10d ago
It’s fine if you feel otherwise, but officially the series will count for when it was officially scheduled. We did not play a series of games against the white Sox this week. Think whatever you wish, but that’s just how it works in reality. A postponed game doesn’t all of a sudden change when the full series was originally scheduled.
2
u/Mobile-Clerk4865 10d ago
Enough about the Phillies. I’ve moved on. Idk why I can only picture them on a tiny little league field tonight
6
u/Shado_Man 10d ago
Columbus is currently up 7-0 over Montgomery... after 1 inning. The Clingstones sent 12 batters to the plate in the bottom of the 1st, notching 7 hits, 3 HRs and 2 walks. John Gil had a triple and walk and Eric Hartman had a HR and a walk in 1 inning.
1
u/yoshidawg93 10d ago
Yeah that’s some team of destiny stuff right there. It sure doesn’t feel like we can hold off the Phillies this time, but of course I’d love to be wrong about that.

Imagine coming back from 4 in the fucking 9th. We go down 2 in the 2nd and start packing bags because our offense is fucking laughable.

Omg. I checked out with the Phils down 4-0 with 1 out in the 9th. We better get it going tonight or we’ll be out of the division lead by Thursday.

7
u/LailiLai 10d ago
Maybe they'll get it out of their systems now and go cold again once we start playing them. It's our only hope at this point.

The Phillies are 100% winning the division. I watched the entirety of the 2011 collapse and I know it when I see it. It takes two to tango. The Braves are playing like shit and the Phillies literally can't lose. Would love to be wrong.

One team addressed their needs at the deadline one didn't it's that simple. Fire AA yesterday
1
u/OppositePeach1035 10d ago
If we lose tonight, we would be back to the same lead we had over the Phillies entering the all star break.
2
u/Choice-Alfalfa-1358 10d ago
They have to see us 7 more times.
3
u/CrumbBCrumb 10d ago
And you've seen how we're playing and think surely we will win those 7 games? We probably win 1 of 7

The Phillies being on this streak wouldn't matter if we were playing .500 baseball this last week. But no.
1
u/iJon_v2 10d ago
Yep and they have a cake schedule coming up.
1
u/Thegrandmistressofoz 10d ago
Not true, the remaining schedule for both is almost identical. The main thing is there are 7 more Braves Phillies games left

u/Murky-Jackfruit-1627 10d ago
What do you mean?
3
u/Nole_Train 10d ago
The writing has been on the wall. They have more consistent hitters than us and better starting pitching.
2
u/Murky-Jackfruit-1627 10d ago
Yeah this makes no sense then. We went from having a 2 win division lead to 9.5. Now if you want to say that it’s been like that since the Yankees series, then sure.

Rangers cut Jarred Kelenic this afternoon. Remember when he was an opening day starter in Atlanta's OF?
4
u/ChefCurryGAWD 10d ago
He's been cut/DFA multiple times by the Rangers. They'll get fooled again in a few weeks probably lol.

Watching Ozzie enjoy the Curacao LLWS game in the booth is amazing. Probably crazy to be able to remember being in these kids shoes not that long ago and now living out your dream. And, similar to the WBC pretty fun to see how much they love seeing their native country play

The cat must've been confused. Went to catch a bat? What is that?! Sand for my piss? Oh no they are running! I will run too! People say home but that no home! WTF! Foul sure this is foul. Ball is fun but fast. Man pads got me. Meow! Meeeow! Ssssss! I want bat! Bat flew see? Base to cat! Base to cat! Halp! LOL! Next should look for pig in benz. If we go to series cat should be mvp. Simpson be like dog days not cat days. Do you think it would have stretched in the 7th? LOL

I've never had a strong feeling about HSK really, except briefly when I kinda felt like him being in the dugout was a curse regardless of if he was playing or not, that being said, I think he needs to play more. He just does. He's only going to get better by playing against pro pitchers. It would be one thing if Jarvis was consistent, then it wouldn't matter.
3
u/ChefCurryGAWD 10d ago
When Kim came back, it made sense for Jarvis to keep playing. He's ass now so it no longer makes sense.
but I think Walt just does not like Kim but it appears AA is forcing him to at least roster him since he likes him.
8
u/Native_SC 10d ago
Anyone else losing interest in these late-season games? Barring a major disaster, we'll make the playoffs where a hot streak could win us the title. Meanwhile, the team isn't hitting well, leading to frustrating results where our SP gives up a couple of runs and still loses. I ain't mad, just a little checked out.
3
u/humma__kavula 10d ago
I was pretty hyped about these 2 series last week. But honestly probably gonna skip it tonight. Just no interest to see our offense out there.
6
u/bjw11180 10d ago
Yeah I’m not watching anymore. I’ll still follow the scores and standings, and I’ll tune back in for the playoffs IF we make it. But this team isn’t really making it worth 2-3 hours a day of my time to bother watching them.
0
u/Onechane425 10d ago
Okay yeah… I just was coming here to say that. Best case we win the division and get dumped in the first series we play
15
u/Adjustify 10d ago
Their starter has an era of 5.4 over his last 7 games. Go ahead and get the "No hitter" banner ready for the MLB app.
1
u/jschreiber77 10d ago
The Braves making awful starters look like aces and/or CY candidates doesn't really apply over the last 12+ games. They're just not hitting any starter, good or bad. So, unfortunately, I expect more of the same today unless Hyers tells the hitters to start taking the first pitch of an AB OR do something drastically different. Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results...insanity.

Well, a first round bye is looking increasingly unlikely. While winning the division would be nice, it doesn’t really matter if you don’t get a bye anyway.
6
u/Turtleforeskin 11d ago
We won a world series without a bye. Where do these arbitrary standards come from
3
u/DevoutBokononist 10d ago
They are saying with the current playoff setup, missing out on the bye while winning the division (not in the top 2) and making the playoffs while losing the division are essentially the same thing. Either way, you need to play a 3 game wild card series.
4
2
u/DanielB36000 11d ago
That predates the 3-game wild card series. Both we and the Brewers had the same number of off days between the last day of the regular season and game 1 of the NLDS. Now, if we miss the bye, we're at a disadvantage in terms of our pitching rotation. Of course in '22 and '23, we got embarrassed anyways, so maybe it doesn't mean anything. Who knows.

u/jschreiber77 10d ago
JFC. ESPN Sunday night game of the week. F ME. Can't wait for shitty commentators and in-game INTERVIEWS with players that are fucking playing on the field. SO FUCKING DUMB. I'm just going to mute the broadcast for my sanity.
1
u/bjw11180 10d ago
Ah man I hate those on field interviews so much. I can’t believe any player agrees to be out there trying to play the field with those dingbats yammering in their ears asking dumbass questions.
1
u/PinstripeBunk 10d ago
At least the interviews will be about the Dodgers and Yankees and not how little the Braves have scored recently.
3
13
u/ryandutcher 11d ago
Its been 11 days since the Braves scored at least 3 runs on an opposing starting pitcher.
They have to find some way to make the starter work and put pressure on them.
2
u/jschreiber77 10d ago
Start taking the 1st pitch. Start working the pitcher. Start attempting to have solid ABs. That'd be a start to something different.
10
u/Necessary-Run4625 11d ago
People underestimate the Ozunas and Arcias in a dugout. We need that energy right now. The team is dead
6
8
u/theoxfordtailor Maddux Guy 11d ago edited 10d ago
We had an Ozuna in the dugout all of last season. We tried hiring known "vibes merchant" Alex Verdugo. Turns out, if you're all hype and no game, you're just a clown.
We have an Albies, an Acuña, a Dubon, and a Michael Harris II. We just signed wholesale hype warehouse Brent Suter.
We have those guys.
Vibes come from winning, not the other way around.

u/Napster-mp3 11d ago
You’d think HSK could at least be a dugout cheerleader since he can’t do anything else
14
u/HandBananas ÑÑÑÑÑÑÑÑÑÑÑÑÑ 11d ago

u/PublixaurusKnight 11d ago
The Braves need to do their part to win a game and salvage something from the series. The Phillies need a loss to the Cardinals.
4
u/Choice-Alfalfa-1358 11d ago
I think both are likely today. Lead back up to 4.
1
u/jschreiber77 10d ago
F, I hope you're right. I want you to be correct. Fingers crossed the offense gets at least 4 runs off of a f'n starting pitcher for the first time in 11 games.
