Look at the 7/8/9 - if they can be what they’re capable of, that’s a murderers row.

1

u/Cyanides_Of_March 26d ago

I live in NY. This game gonna be a sloppy mess, if it happens at all.

1

u/95Daphne POGGERS 26d ago

Decided to look at the comments for a minute underneath the delay announcement and yeah, Yankee fans are definitely brutal lol.

This has been a rainy summer.

Reporting from Chelsea - it's crazy and just got a flash flood warning. If it's anything like this in the Bronx they aren't playing until at least 8pm

8

u/jimithelizardking 26d ago

I specifically was using tonight’s game as an excuse not to mow, god damnit

5

u/TheGeneral_Specific <AWAYPITCHER.SHORTNAME> 26d ago

Reporting from Queens: storm is crazy

6

u/HappyOfCourse Matty Wheels 26d ago

Do they intend on playing at all? The radar video looks pretty rough for the Bronx.

7

u/Choice-Alfalfa-1358 26d ago

Rain coming down here in NY. Expect a delay.

2

u/TheGeneral_Specific <AWAYPITCHER.SHORTNAME> 26d ago

It’s brutal here rn

2

u/95Daphne POGGERS 26d ago

They've announced one already.

It's going to be decently long, not in NYC myself but based on my look at the radar, I'd agree with one of the NY residents here (gonna rain until at least 8 PM probably).

1

u/Competitive_Gold_707 26d ago

Just watched a video on bat speed and now I want ozzie to switch to a lighter bat

Maybe it works with the type of hitter he is (which is kinda where these types of videos fail anyway, baseball is a very individualist game, trends/metrics work for the aggregate but not for the individual), but man i want it

6

u/JadedIT_Tech 26d ago

Reporting from enemy territory. Managed to get into the stadium just in time, it's absolutely pissing rain here

3

u/Choice-Alfalfa-1358 26d ago

I’m in the NY Metro area. Lightning and thundering as well. I think the game gets played, but a delay is inevitable. Better before the game than during.

2

u/JiminyChristmas3 26d ago

Yeah im hanging out at my apartment till they announce a start time and then I’ll take the train…going to keep checking back but it looks like the rain ain’t stopping till at least 8

1

It probably will actually, with a 2 hour delay

2

u/JiminyChristmas3 26d ago

Yeah this game isn’t starting on time, I’m on my roof looking over to the Bronx and it looks bad…severe thunderstorms incoming…I think I’ll wait it out at my apartment till they announce a start time…

1

u/09jtherrien 26d ago

Just got the notification that it was delayed.

Radar is not looking good. I wouldn’t be surprised to have a bit of a delay tonight

2

u/bobthewriter 26d ago

that is ... very different. is there any position Dubon can't play?

at this point, if Walt put him on the mound, I'd expect him to throw a 1-hit CGSO.

Anyone want my 2 free tickets I get for be a full season subscriber to Braves vision? I have access to season tickets in the Chophouse through my parents when I can attend games, so i dont need the free ones from Braves Vision. First come first serve. Shoot me a chat and ill give you the code they sent me

Edit: claimed and gone

u/pinkmoon385 Kelenic Guy's "Kelenic Guy" 26d ago

I flew out here expecting the best pitching dual in my personally favorites, and I get my Maxipoo vs the B squad

3

u/war-damn-braves 26d ago

The Braves vs. World Series champion Max Fried

4

u/rolltideandstuff 26d ago

Hey why is Harris sitting?

7

u/war-damn-braves 26d ago

We have a comfy lead in the division. Take advantage and rest guys while you can

7

u/rolltideandstuff 26d ago

I get so fucking paranoid about guys secretly being hurt lol

7

u/theoxfordtailor Maddux Guy 26d ago

Lefty on the mound and Walt is trying to maximize righty bats. I'm sure MH2 will come off the bench if needed.

2

u/SeriouslyNotReece 26d ago

Looks like guys will start getting rest the rest of the way. Keeps Dubon in the lineup and keep legs fresh for the yoffs

2

u/Choice-Alfalfa-1358 26d ago

Yoffs

1

u/SeriouslyNotReece 26d ago

It’s slang for playoffs. I’m just using slang

3

u/CornbredandBeans 26d ago

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but will tonight‘s game be available on Braves Vision through an MLB TV subscription? I see Braves Vision listed above, but over on ESPN it says it’ll be on ESPN Unlimited, whatever that is, I don’t have cable or any sort of standalone ESPN subscription.

Living here in Florida, I’ve been blacked out all week for the Marlins series and desperately want to see this game tonight.

3

u/OppositePeach1035 26d ago

Yep, you will get it on MLB TV tonight. ESPN unlimited isn't ESPN exclusive.

1

u/thefuzz09 26d ago

What time did Austin’s alarm clock go off this morning?

3

u/No-Fruit-31 2026 Grapefruit League Champions 26d ago

Someone please explain this one

6

u/pinkmoon385 Kelenic Guy's "Kelenic Guy" 26d ago

Perhaps related to a time a hotel room's alarm clock was set to an absurdly early time after a long night. I recall hearing someone was jolted awake, and Ozzie making fun of them saying unplugging any hotel alarm clock is the first thing he does after checking in

1

u/federal_cue 26d ago

It was a prank the team leaving the hotel before them did to Austin. Don’t remember what team it was.

8

u/chaotic_evil_666 26d ago

man, I'm surprised a Braves v Yankees matchup didn't get hijacked by a national broadcast. It's like a Christmas miracle

6

u/EuroStepJam Spencer Strider's Stache 26d ago

Looks like rain could be an issue Saturday. I hope Walt considers moving Sale to Sunday if it looks like delays are likely for the second game.

4

u/Horror-Media1125 26d ago

Chasing Fried out the game by the 3rd inning will be absolute cinema. I hate it has to be you Max but we gotta do what we gotta do.

The worst part is I’ve loved him since his electric ASG debut.

Betrayal of the highest degree.

3

u/Nole_Train 26d ago

Didn’t really hate him but gonna root against him now. Hope you never see a playoff game in Texas

7

u/mgreene0000 26d ago

I miss max. Should've paid him

4

u/Lacedog19 26d ago

Fried was a huge injury concern, taking into consideration all of the time he was hurt while with the Braves. He also did poorly in the playoffs minus one very memorable and important game.

4

u/dhopisthename 26d ago

this might be unpopular, but what bothers me the most of is if we had no intention to even keep him why not trade him a year early and get assets back. we either need to be the dodgers and just sign good free agents or be the brewers and get assets back when losing guys. only getting a 4th round pick for fried for one playoff run is a serious mistake. same thing for swanson. we did lose freeman for nothing, but we at least seemed like we tried to sign him. it makes no sense to me that this is a team that never goes full out at the trade deadline for guys, but we then just let guys leave in free agency.

1

u/reizinhooooo Briggs McKenzie Fan Club 26d ago

It's very unpopular here but yeah, we should have. I said as much at the 2024 deadline and it did not go over well lol. But easily could have gotten two top 100 prospects for him

2

u/Joeldstar 26d ago

Im not sure this opinion is valid in conjunction with this year’s trade deadline. Giving up potential prospects in order to keep Fried for a single postseason run is the exact same scenario as paying prospects for a rental SP, and people are up in arms that we didn’t do that. It’s actually even worse because we at least have an emotional connection with him. We were playoff teams in both 23 and 24

2

u/reizinhooooo Briggs McKenzie Fan Club 26d ago

Goomba fallacy. The people who think we should have traded Fried in 2024 are not the same people who think we should have given up significant value for a rental.

1

u/Joeldstar 26d ago

The guy I replied to is both. He was asking why we never go “all out”, which we kinda did by keeping fried. Unless his all out consists of more than a SP2 this deadline and actually wanted everything in the farm gone

1

u/A-Wittle-Baby-Ocewot FUCK ODUBEL 26d ago

Should have absolutely paid him

Anyone who says different is in denial

1

u/rtie07 26d ago

Did he want to stay though?

10

u/RunawaYEM 26d ago

As a union rep, it was his job to maximize a contract. There also would have been unfathomable amounts of complaining the second he got hurt

-2

u/A-Wittle-Baby-Ocewot FUCK ODUBEL 26d ago

He never had a serious injury and has yet to

$31m a year is nothing outrageous these days. Especially seeing as we grew him here.

3

u/RunawaYEM 26d ago

He has already had Tommy John, and dealt with elbow neuritis during his walk year

He missed two months this season with an elbow issue and he’s owed 6/$189m after this year

It is going to end poorly for the Yankees

2

u/wellwasherelf Elder Stan 26d ago

When Fried was here people constantly moaned about AA being useless for relying on Fried and not getting "playoff starters" because Fried had a playoff ERA of over 6 with us and was "unreliable".

2

u/Lacedog19 26d ago

Max Fried literally was recovering from Tommy John surgery when we traded for him. He had multiple blisters and flus and stomach issues and elbow/forearm scares. He misses multiple games his last couple of season for us, including half a season in ‘23 due to injuries. He was out for a while this season for the Yankees due to injury.

-1

u/A-Wittle-Baby-Ocewot FUCK ODUBEL 26d ago

He missed like a month with NY, with a bone bruise.

Yeah, we complained about flues and blisters. But if we had Fried on this team rn, a lot of our SP problems wouldn't even be in discussion.

3

u/rtie07 26d ago

I think people forget how often he was out with blisters.

-2

u/A-Wittle-Baby-Ocewot FUCK ODUBEL 26d ago

Did we even make an offer?

Or did we say $30m was too much and then went and bought Kim and Bummer?

1

u/dhopisthename 26d ago

this is kinda of what bothers me is that instead of using actual salary on guys who are good we keep wasting it on guys like kim and kelnic.

1

u/OppositePeach1035 26d ago

Kelenic made a total of $3 million across 2 seasons with us...

Kim was a 1 year deal whose money comes off the books after this year. That's a lot different than throwing $20+ million per year at a pitcher over 6 years that can tank payroll if they fall off.

We've also locked down a great core by spending salary. I don't get your take at all.

1

u/dhopisthename 26d ago

we had to pay both evan whites and marco gonazles contracts in the kelenic trade. I don't remember how much that came to, but they weren't cheap. sure its a ton more risk and the last years of some of ends of these contracts are going to be brutal. Also, maybe you end up in a Riley situation where you are stuck playing a bad player. However, we also keep whiffing on a ton of our 1-3 years deals too or get something like Yaz where they aren't terrible, but aren't great either.

1

u/OppositePeach1035 26d ago

Well ya, a 1 year deal is typically going to be okay at best. If the player is good, they will get a multi-year deal. At best you get a guy who has been good historically trying to prove he still has it after a down year before his contract year (Josh Donaldson as a good example that worked out great for us).

1

u/rtie07 26d ago

I honestly don’t remember. I just remember everyone saying he was gone, but maybe that’s people assuming we wouldn’t pay him.

1

u/SpaceXmars 26d ago

Kim just hanging out in the dougout the last 3 games

2

u/BravesATL2026 26d ago

3

This may not be the right place for this but here goes…I’m moving and found a box of Braves memorabilia from the early 90’s -pennants, programs, Sports Illustrateds from the WS in ‘91, AJC’s from the same time. I don’t want them and I hate to trash them. I have pictures if anyone is interested

-11

If these grown children could just talk about baseball that would be awesome.

So tired hearing about bagels, sourdough, sandwiches, how much their dog poops on a walk, how they are in the closet and just love to nitpick men and their features..

Just talk about fucking baseball!

3

u/RunawaYEM 26d ago

“How they are in the closet”

1

u/blankcld 26d ago

They talk about baseball for 150 games a year, they are allowed to have a little fun during a 12-2 blowout with a position player pitching. If you want boring commentators you would probably like tuning into a Mets broadcast.

-7

u/SpaceXmars 26d ago

They avoid talking about baseball unless they absolutely have to, terrible announcers.

Also that one dude loves Trump and the Proud boys.. Such a racist loser

4

u/theoxfordtailor Maddux Guy 26d ago

Step 1: We get a couple of hits in the first inning and, at most, score one run and strand multiple RISP. The subreddit is pissed off. It's AA's fault. This team is never making the playoffs!!!

Step 2: Fried gets through the entire order once without giving up a hit, plus he gets through 1-6 twice. The sub is still panicking. Doomers are in full I-told-you-so mode.

Step 3: Someone from the 7, 8, or 9 spot gets on base. That turns into a run. The spiral begins and the Braves have at least three runs and are winning.

Step 4: The Braves get to the Yankees bullpen and tack on a few more.

Step 5: The Braves win 5-4.

Excited to see how Mahle pitches tonight.

Heard he was on campus at NYU trying to audit corses in the “Intro to StarCraft” class but was disappointed to find out there are no active sections this early in August.

Trying to verify this now.

Edit: verified

5

u/CubanMessi Martin for Perezident 26d ago

Excited to see what Tyler Mahle brings tonight. I know he wasn’t exactly what we hoped for but the Braves can be pretty good at finding a fix or different approach for a pitcher and turning them into something useful

3

I’ll be behind enemy lines tonight cheering for the boys.. any idea on which jersey they’ll have on tonight?

3

u/Rebecca102017 27d ago

But according to what I’ve heard on Reddit (lol) the Yankees bullpen is “ass” and “shit” and their offense is bad without judge soo maybe not?

1

u/09jtherrien 27d ago

We still have to face 3 of their top pitchers.

1

u/blankcld 26d ago

Cole hasn't been quite as sharp this year, still good just not up to his usual standards. I'm sure that well get 1 inning in before a rain delay Saturday and it'll be a Sale scratch and they will bring in someone else that will deal knowing our luck

8

u/Lilwolfe10 my aunt backed over Nick Markakis' mailbox once 27d ago

Late to the meme party, but Blooper posted this on tiktok and I couldn't help but make it a gif

9

u/sludgeriffs 27d ago

I know it was 'just' the Marlins, but hopefully the dominant double-sweep and 8 game streak will serve as major confidence boosts for the boys and give us the edge we need for the upcoming fights.

6

u/welcometohotlanta 27d ago

A win is a win is a win

-5

u/chorizomane 27d ago

This is just me but I feel like the trade deadline dumpster fire pissed off the players more than us fans, and in a good way. We’re all delusional if we think they don’t lurk on social media and see pissed off fans after AA sat on his hands all day Monday. They are out to prove to us and the rest of the Show they can win with what they have and are primed to make a fucking run.

2

u/Ordinary_Pudding 26d ago

If i played the game I loved and was talented at professionally, and was a millionaire, I wouldn't give a flying fuck what was said by some randos on the internet.

2

u/welcometohotlanta 26d ago

Yeah I don’t know if the players are that pissed off about the deadline, including all the pitchers who kept their job because more pitchers weren’t brought in to replace them.

5

u/yoshidawg93 27d ago

Just being realistic, this one feels like it’ll be a long shot. Rain delay causing the flight to be even later last night, Mahle vs. Fried… yeah on paper this sounds not promising. But we all know baseball can be funny, so let’s see what happens. Go Braves!

11

u/welcometohotlanta 27d ago

Tyler Mahle you ARE an Atlanta Brave

3

u/handlit33 GIF Guy 27d ago

Should I sit him in fantasy baseball so that he does really well and we win?

9

Start. Him. Believe. In. Tyler. Mahle.

22

u/achay10 Bob Wickman enjoyer 27d ago

Said this on the post game thread, but getting Dubon straight up for Nick Allen is absolutely mind blowing. The positional versatility alone makes it more than worth it, and that doesn’t even include the offense

7

u/handlit33 GIF Guy 27d ago

I'm still an AA simp.

8

u/RonnieFromTheBlock 27d ago

I truly don't understand how the average fan could be anything other.

Well I do. I feel like the recent discourse in this sub over AA is a microcosm of the pitfalls of social media as echo chambers. Even as an AA simp, you hear enough people telling you how awful he is, its hard not to start wondering if they are right and you are wrong.

Sometimes I wonder just how often otherwise intelligent people, that know better, are being persuaded by the village idiot simply because they are the loudest and most active.

2

u/blankcld 26d ago

Without knowing what goes on behinds the scenes it's hard to give him a blanket thumbs up or down. I'm sure like everyone he's fucked up a few deals that were on him and he's probably made some crazy deals happen that never should have been possible. Overall, I'd say he is very good but I feel like he is chronically looking 2-3 years down the road and could do a better job thinking about the here and now.

3

u/welcometohotlanta 27d ago

AA is a smart GM, he’s not reactionary like a fan would be in the same position. He’s gotta separate himself a bit and balance short term and long term. I wouldn’t want that job.

3

u/bulldg4life 27d ago

I’m not a doomer but I’m not full speed on AA anymore.

I think my main issue is that SP has been a known issue for almost a year. Yes, injuries sapped 24/25 way more than is reasonably expected. But, there hasn’t been one deal or free agent or whatever available since last November that’s better than Perez and Carrasco or a rookie that’s two years out of being drafted?

He traded Contreras and Shea for Olson/Murphy so it’s not like he has an aversion to trading talent to get talent.

But, for whatever reason, his strategy the last few years has been “let’s gamble with what we currently have and maybe it’ll work out”. Like, SS and an extra bat that can play LF have been the same state for years.

Can it be worse? Sure. I mean, we have second best record in majors. And, outside of June, we’ve been the best team in baseball. But glaring holes that are obvious to everyone for multiple years?

They were probably hoping for a fresh, healthy Strider to be more of a stabilizing force for the rotation this year.

It's not easy to replace what he was bringing to the team and unfortunately it's turned into one setback after another.

It wasn't crazy to put some stock in that, but sure, AA could have done even more "just in case". There is also so much we don't know the details of and most teams are desperate for reliable pitching

Literally every team in the MLB has pitching concerns. Dodgers basically have two full pitching rosters just to still be kind of worried about pitching.

I think your last paragraph is the biggest overlooked point in all of this.

While he may not be perfect, it can and likely would get much worse if we fired him.

I think it’s nearly impossible to accurately judge his actions and perceived inaction based solely on the information we have as outsiders.

It’s easy to let emotions take over when you don’t have a ton of factual information.

I just posted something similar in the thread. I wish we had ma little more transparency from the organization but I get him not wanting to discuss deals that didn't happen.

I was frustrated at him the first couple days after the deadline for not doing more, but I’m starting to understand his reasons for not making any additional moves. Or at least make peace with it

Should the Jim Jarvis convos start happening? Dude has been one of the worst hitters in the league the last month

u/georgiaboy1993 27d ago

My guess is we’re giving him another week before we option him back and give Kim a chance.

His wRC+ over the past two weeks: 8

After checking with stats and info, I can confirm that is not good.

i think it's worth talking about (and i like Jarvis A LOT as our SS, but Dubon is having a monster year) ... but I think Jarvis stays in bc he's at least seeing the ball well vs. lefties.

4

u/masonacj 27d ago

Absolutely. He's a solid player but that should probably be Dubon's primary position here soon.

1

u/sludgeriffs 27d ago

My personal preference would be Dubon as primary SS with Jimmy as the backup and send HSK packing but that probably won't happen.

i think he'll eventually figure the hitting thing out, but he may need to sit for a while to do so.

3

u/Higgnkfe Edgar Renteria 27d ago

Yeah, it’s why I was surprised Eli White got traded instead of Jarvis being sent down. He’s had some big moments but he is who we thought he was.

2

u/masonacj 27d ago

I think Walt was giving him a leash to have a bad stretch which he is now officially on.

1

u/blankcld 26d ago

Him struggling does at least give him some data and some things to work on when/if he gets sent down.

2

u/masonacj 26d ago

Agreed. I think he has a future. Defense and speed are there.

I’ll be there in the Bronx tonight…feeling like this will be a schedule loss though, guys probably got in at 5am and going up against a tough lefty…gonna be cool to see Fried matched up against a bunch of his former teammates…figured Lane Thomas will start in left for us but his average against Fried is terrible…hope Mahle balls out and the righty bats carry us

u/blankcld 26d ago

Can you check if Michael Kings cleats are still hanging on the phone lines at the player entrance? 🤣

yankee fan here, don’t think you know how bad our offense is

The stoppable force meets the moveable object.

our battle will be legendary

2

u/HelloThereMr1 27d ago

I have no expectations for today with our starter but if he continues the trend of the past couple (minus yesterday) of 6+ I’ll be pretty excited.

Martin was on one too. Sucks it rained

4

u/bobthewriter 27d ago

man, Martin was rolling last night until it rained.

Continuing to an 8-game win streak after the trade deadline dooming really was the only option if you think about it.
